I hired Excel Construction to work on my backyard in early June this year. They were referred to me by a neighbor friend that hired them and was very happy with the work and the results of the remodeling. The property was built in 2000’s and the backyard was old and needed to have a real and massive makeover. The remodeling project was definitely a big one because it included a lot of features that I wanted to do and have. Before the work got started, I met several times with Eyal at my house. Eyal checked the back yard and took a lot of pictures and measurements of the existing space. Later on, in the 3rd meeting, Eyal presented me a 3D design plan that was generated at their office and it contained how my backyard will look like. The design was excellent and in details. That gave me a clear view of what they wanted to do. I decided to make the backyard fit with the style of the house. The backyard project included all the turf grass with nice stones and BBQ area that is the main focal point of the entire space. After everything was approved and the work started, Eyal took care of all the necessary paperwork with the city and he made sure that everything will be done properly. Their team of workers did arrived to the house early of each day and when they got started no one was late. I was impressed with the work ethic of all the people that were involved at my house project from Excel Construction. This proved me that this company is one of the best construction companies around. By having each day workers working at the house, it was very fast before I could see how the backyard is coming into new life and I was excited to see how it was all being put together. When they finished the remodeling, they made sure that everything was cleaned up and the space is ready to be use. I was extremely pleased with their work, and am finally proud to have friends come over and hang out in my backyard.

Rain leak on roof. Germain has done the great job. He has checked not only leaking on the flashing around the vent but also turn-up all roof titles and found some of titles out of alignment and he realigned the titles. Complete re-roof around 2000 sq ft. Removed 3 layers of old roofing. Installed all new plywood, underlayment and Oakridge cool roof shingles. Handled permits and city inspections and completed job in 4 straight days and came back for final inspection following week. Cleaned up every day. Good price. Final roof looks great. Even painted all vents to match shingles. I hope to not have issues, but if I do I am hopeful and confident that Carlos will respond in timely manner to any maintenance requests. Great job, thank you, and will hire again if need be on another project.

We hired Moshe for a roof project. He was able to finish the entire project in just one day. What I appreciated most about Moshe is that he stayed the entire duration of the project instead of leaving his employees and coming back. He was honest and fair.

The team at GIM completed a whole home remodel with solar system. I was looking to make some energy efficient upgrades. My first home purchase and I was looking to invest a little on the interior since the home was a little out dated. They helped me to decide on what the interior finishes I wanted to go with. We ended up using spray foam for insulation, foam roof, and many other energy efficient upgrades. On top of that the solar system also comes with battery back up. Each step of the way I was informed, they even took care of the design and permit process. Great team on staff. Check them out for any construction needs. Appreciate all the hard work.

Vision Construction did a complete remodel on our home. We had a very tight budget going into our remodel and received multiple offers from reputable companies. Vision Construction had it all. They are licensed, bonded and insured which was a must in our opinion. We checked out their references and spoke to some past clients and were very happy to hear that some are repeating clients. Dean came in with an offer and promised to stay within our budget, and he did!!! Everything he promised, he delivered. The crew was always on time, the work quality was amazing, the crew spoke English and were always great in communicating. Steve was the project manager and was always on the job. His knowledge and professionalism was key in moving the project forward. From anew roof, to windows, to new walls, kitchen, bathrooms, and most importantly to the fine details, he oversaw everything and it came out amazing. Highly recommended.

Last we used Solid Builders to renovate our house from top to bottom (roof, hardwood floors, year, painting inside and out) and we were entirely happy with the final product. Not only did the team and crew used the best craftsmen to renovate our house in carpentry, painting and tile work, they also supervised the work every day and made sure that the work was done to our satisfaction. They conscientiously covered and stored all our furniture to protect it from dust and the construction work, and carefully put it back in place when all the work was finished. Brad and David are honest, knowledgeable in their trade, and fun to work with. We are so pleased with their work that we recommend them to friends and family, and do not hesitate to call upon them each time we have some construction work to be done in our house. Those guys are wonderful. As a real estate agent, I called them to give my buyer an estimate for a complete remodeling of the property. They gave us a detailed scope of job. After they completed the remodeling of the kitchen, bathroom, roof, flooring and paint, my buyer sold the house for a huge profit. Thank you so much Dan.

The guys of West Roof are just like every other professional roofers but with a huge difference - you can fully trust them. I had a terrible experience with other company so I was hesitant and doubtful of hiring any other company. To my astonishing surprise - they were wonderful, helpful, responsible and extremely professional. If you think of hiring them - stop now and give them a call. I give you my word you can sleep calmly while they take charge of your roof!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
