Guitar and drum lessons. James is amazing. Personable, easy going, and professional. Teaches according to student's abilities and desires. Can learn any song you want to learn and then show you in a manner you can handle.
I have been a student with Kimberly for ten years. I have been taking blues guitar lessons from her weekly. Kim is extremely professional. She tailors her teaching to the students interest and playing style. She is very patient and often goes the extra mile to help students progress. I have been a dedicated student because of this. I have had the pleasure of playing guitar with some of her other students in ensemble classes who all give her praise for the way she conducts business and teaches her classes. I highly recommend Kimberly Allison of Starliner music to anyone wishing to develop their skills in music.
I took drum lessons with Damien from the end of junior high school until the summer before I left for college and loved every minute of it! Damien's passion for music is contagious and his enthusiasm in our lessons encouraged me to explore music in a way that I had not expected. By incorporating my personal musical likes into his teaching style he created a comfortable atmosphere where I was not limited by self doubt. I miss our lessons and highly recommend him as a musical instructor.
I started taking drum lessons later in life as I've always wanted to learn. After a great birthday present from a friend I started lessons with Mike. He is great at listening to what I wanted to learn and was very, very patient with me. I've always had trouble reading music but he taught me in no time and made the lessons very fun and interesting. He let me pick the songs I wanted to learn and he would even play along to help me get it right! Mike is a very talented drummer, musician and teacher. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is interested in learning the drums, he'll have you playing in no time!!
Alex is amazing. I'm new to playing drums (but not to playing music). From the first lesson, Alex gave me exercises that were not only fun to practise, but also musically interesting. He teaches by introducing a student to great beats, not by getting bogged down in theory and technique. That said, my technique is definitely improving ( and Alex himself is a technically impeccable drummer) coming as a byproduct of working on enjoyable exercises (its not unusual for me to end up practising for two hours). In short, Alex knows how to drive home core musical foundations while keeping it fun. Alex is also a fun, friendly and personable teacher. I'll admit that he was not the least expensive quote I received on Thumbtack, but something about his methods and personality told me to give him a shot. I'm so glad I did!
Howard Richman is not a piano teacher...he is a LIFE CHANGER. I went to him to learn piano...but realized that the lessons I learned studying piano with the MASTER were not merely lessons in music....but lessons that helped me see outside the paradigm in all areas of my life. Often, as adults, we "come back" to our music...to study what we have been "wanting to get back to" for years. I learned that this is often a time of great change and evolution for us personally. Howard, being so intuitive, knows how to tune in to each individual's needs.... and empower them to EMPOWER themselves. He is a BRILLIANT pianist, composer and master teacher. I've watched him perform miracles with young children who struggled with other teachers who simply wanted to teach "by the book." Howard is always able to find your inner talent and abilities, possibly that are even unknown to you...and he can creatively, intuitively and intelligently create a course of action that will leave you amazed! That's why you are reading SO many wonderful comments here about him. If you are lucky enough to get to study with Howard, it will change your life!...and btw, I can now play a mean Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata"....Thank you for everything you taught me Howard Richman! This is a great school. My daughter takes violin lessons from Eunji Lee. She has vastly improved since she started her lessons. She really enjoys the time she spends at the school.
Frank is a great teacher. I have progressed in my drum skills since working with him.
Nolan has training and experience in several areas of music, but I'm glad that he has a passion for teaching. He understands that people take lessons for different reasons and have individual ambitions. I have found that Nolans priority is to identify these goals; to see that his students progress and have fun while they are learning. He gives my daughter constant, constructive feedback during her drum lessons, and works to teach and challenge her. He is always patient and positive, and wants to know that he is helping her achieve her goals. Nolan is professional and reliable, and my daughter is fortunate to be one of his students!
I moved from LA and I can’t take lessons anymore from Geo and I’m so sad!!!! I relocated to Illinois and I cannot find as fun or as talented a teacher anywhere. Geo is so versatile and knows many different styles — I really appreciated that he tries to expose you to different genres of drumming — like surprisingly (for me) I got really into the jazz style which I don’t think I would have exposed to from a less experienced teacher. If you want to learn how to play drums from an actual professional musician, give him a call he’s the best teacher ever seriously! Miss you Geo!!!
My son started formal drum lessons with Steve two and a half years ago. Steve set the bar on professionalism, flexibility, communication, and has the patience to teach music to younger kids. My son went from a kid banging on a toy drum, to a musician that could play drum set rhythms in an elementary school jazz band. We've had other instructors since Steve left the Los Alamitos area but none of them compared to his high level of attributes listed earlier.
Michael has a very straight forward approach to teaching. Whether it was answering a technique question or developing new ways to manuever around the set, each lesson consisted of my thoroughly learning new information in a practical and very efficient manner. Being a percussionist myself, we naturally have good rapport with the language we communicate with. Michael's way of personal interaction alongside his instrument is certainly one of the best forays into any practice and study of music, for those just starting or already proficient.
We miss Davie. Great piano and drum teacher. Enthusiastic and fun. Your child will love lessons with Davie.
Efrain was my guitar teacher for a couple of months and was really helpful. He was usually on time and was really patient when I was having trouble with some chords. He also taught my brother the drums and was pretty enthusiastic and focused.
What can I say other than AMAZING! Steve is a professional, monster and powerful drummer. I was really impressed how patient he was and took the time to sit down with me and critique my technic. I saw a huge difference in my playing in just a few weeks. I would recommend him to anyone. It doesn't matter what style you play, rock, jazz or metal, beginner to professional. Steve is the guy to help take your playing to the next level.
My daughter Shavanie has been with at SoundCheck for about two months. First off I must say Dan & Electra are very friendly and down to earth people. My daughter does Vocal & Piano lessons with Electra, she is one of the best music coach my daughter has worked with so far...... I am amazed by her progress. She also does Guitar lessons with Josh, who is also amazing...she is finally enjoying her guitar :) Since my daughter has been with SoundCheck she has shown more excitement towards music vocally and instrumentally. I can't thank them enough! :-) I truly recommend SoundCheck, you will not regret it.
Henry Newmark is an INCREDIBLE drum set teacher and mentor. Henry attended the Berklee School of Music, Henry's approach is precise and professional. Henry is the REAL deal and his instruction is phenomenal. You or your child will absolutely be learning proper technique as well as music theory. Henry is a perfectionist in the best way possible. My son took lessons once or twice a week with Henry for 5 years straight. Not only did my son look forward to his lessons every week, but he went from being a beginning student to now being a freshman percussion major at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. Henry taught my son drum set, orchestral and snare drumming, and jazz drum set. There is NO WAY my son would be where he is today without Henry. Henry is also very kind and has a great sense of humor. There is no better drum teacher then Henry Newmark. If you want to learn how to play the drums, he is your guy without a doubt.
Steve is an excellent teacher with vast knowledge of drum techniques and styles. He is a very relatable and friendly person who has a method of teaching that can work with almost any student. We are still doing lessons and I am thoroughly enjoying each one.
I signed up for some drum lessons with Aly. I am an adult student and was a little bit apprehensive about seeking instruction. I wanted to focus on playing traditional grip and jattempt to get my chops back to where they were 20 years ago. I'm glad I decided to sign up. Aly is not only a talented musician, but she is also a sincere and sweet person. Her lessons are encouraging, motivating, and fun. I look forward to our sessions. I would recommend her for any age. If you are s parent and thinking about taking your child to her for lessons, I cannot recommend her enough.
We love having Brian Griffin as a drum/percussion teacher. My son began lessons as a young elementary student, and Brian was able to engage him immediately by creating lessons around the music he was drawn to. Over the years Brian's teaching continually evolved with my son's interests and focus. There has always been an excellent rapport between them, while maintaining the dynamic of student/teacher relationship. Brian has always shown a high level of professionalism, he's always engaged and enthusiastic, and my son has developed not only in the mechanics of percussion but also what it means to be part of an ensemble and just an overall well-rounded musician. We are grateful for his years of instruction and support.
Mike is a true professional in every sense of the word. His extensive knowledge and skill of his craft is extraordinary!!! A pleasure to work with ! Highly recommended!!!
