I offer a "boutique" music lesson experience with special attention to each student's individual needs and goals-you are not just another number in a large music school. My education (three degrees in Piano Performance from USC, plus years of vocal study), performance experience (international tours as an accompanist) and teachingexperience (both university and private studio) give me a unique perspective. I combine the functions of three separate professionals: voice teacher, accompanist, and coach. It costs a lot less to hire one professional instead of three! I also use technology to work on both the audio and visual aspects of performance. Seeing the "aha" moments and the joy which progress brings. Seeing new students in their first Master Class or Recital, and the pride of their family and friends.

Stop dreaming and start playing. I can help you achieve nearly every piano goal you have. Together, we get you on the fast track to crush your goals as long as you’ve truly decided and ready to take on this dream of yours. As a results-based coach bringing 20 years of experience in piano theory, technique and performance to each session, my goal is to teach you to become independent of me, learn to read music, and play like you've always wanted to play. My approach focuses on your specific goals and reading music in order to build a strong foundation for you to understand music as a whole as opposed to just learning song after song. Too many teachers buzz through the basics leaving the student with an inadequate foundation. You end up learning piece by piece over months instead of truly learning music. My method is inspired by European classical training similar to the way Mozart taught Beethoven. The idea is that once the fundamentals are mastered, you'll be able to play a new piece in a fraction of the time it would take otherwise. Results are disproportionate! Please see my reviews. If this resonates with you, contact me today. Can't wait to meet you! I am living out my dream and pursuing my passion when I teach and perform, so I do not even consider it a "job." Music is what I do with my free time AND "work" time.

-BEST OF 2015 & 2016- For Earning great reviews from Thumbtack Customers, 5 starts! I have been playing piano for 30 years and teaching for the past 8 years. I have gone to one of the most famous conservatoire in Japan. It is Kunitachi Ongaku Daigaku (it is like Juilliard) and studied piano and composing for 12 years, and I am 35 years old now. Also, currently I am an official instructor at Music Teacher LA. But this is my own direct business here at Thumbtack. I also incorporate rhythm, reading and hearing training besides piano lessons. These really helps understand music and improve to play piano especially for the beginners. I also play guitar for 17 years professionally. I started playing piano serious at early age of my life, and it was a smooth transaction for me to learn guitar since I have got a perfect pitch. Currently, I am in the band with Cherie Currie from the Runaways and have an original band TABITHA with my sister on Bass and Stephen Perkins from Jane's Addiction on Drums. My original songs were played on TV shows in House M.D. on Fox and the movie The Last Call. I have toured US and Canada several times. In addition, I can teach you how to play guitar as well. I can tune your piano also! I could also teach in Japanese. I'd like my students to be able to enjoy playing amazing songs or songs that you want to be able to play. I can help you very much to make you improve! To have every one of my students to achieve their goals for them to love and enjoy music. As a being a teacher, I can continue to learn, take on additional responsibilities, and contribute as much of value as I can. I always try my best to find the best way for them to practice individually.

I have been playing piano and keyboards for over 25 years, and have been working as a teacher for over 12. I firmly believe the Ralph Waldo Emerson quote that "The secret in teaching lies in respecting the student", and I make it my mission to customize my approach to every client that I work with. Unlike many teachers who are only comfortable with one style, I love working with students on any kind of music that sparks their curiosity and passion. Whereas many classically trained teachers only teach from written music, I like to also include a deep exploration of improvisation and playing "by ear", so that my students are comfortable and capable when it comes to playing in contemporary styles. When you combine this with note-reading, exploration of classical repertoire, and a classical attention to detail and technique, you end up with a truly well-rounded musician who's able to operate confidently in today's musical landscape. I hope to be a welcome change of pace from the fear-based, authoritarian teaching styles that are far too common in music education. My philosophy is that by being patient, supportive, and nurturing, students feel safe to be themselves, and can progress more quickly in their musical journey. Teaching has been a blessing to me in so many ways. I love helping others discover their true potential, and firmly believe that EVERYONE is born with musical ability. Teaching is a collaboration, and I learn as much from my students as they do from me! By deconstructing, sequencing, and sharing music with others, I move closer towards my own mastery of this sacred art form. I love the feeling that I am sharing this journey of music with everyone that I work with, and feel blessed to have so many traveling companions on this musical highway!

  • The Music Room - Lessons with Dory Bavarsky

    (12 reviews)

I teach piano and guitar, along with music theory, composition, improvisation, and production to students of all ages and levels. I carefully adjust my teaching approach to meet the needs and interests of each student, and I take pride in being a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and effective music educator. My students enjoy learning and playing in various styles, including classical, pop, jazz, and rock. As students advance in their studies, they may choose to focus primarily on one genre. I offer a free first lesson during which you can meet me, see my lovely music studio, and we can discuss my teaching methods and your musical goals. I invite you to visit musicroomlessons.com to learn more about me and my teaching practice. Thanks for your consideration! I love music, and I'm so pleased to be able to share it with others. I believe studying music improves the quality of one's life. Whether a student goes on to be a professional musician, a hobbyist who plays for fun, or even eventually does not play, time spent at an instrument yields many rewards. Cognitive benefits, stress-relief, and a sense of discipline and achievement gained through practice have all been associated with music studies. Music students gain sensitivity, patience, and problem-solving skills that are valuable in all other areas of study. Additionally, music students gain a life-long appreciation for the beauty and joy of music.

I stand out from most teachers because of my 30 years experience performing and writing and from a ten year period of teaching. Most teachers are singular instrumentalists while I sing, play guitar, bass guitar, piano, uke and drums. I also take weekly music lessons myself. Also, which makes me extraordinary, is my musical college training and my ongoing musical studies. I so enjoy each individual, their personality and experience. I learn from them as they learn from me. But primarily, it pleases me when I can teach the student to have the skills to be musically independent.

My daughter started with voice lessons with Tash who was EXTREMELY patient with her. She didn't go straight into teaching her about her voice though. She wanted to help her with voice training and I could see the improvement. She really enjoyed being in the same room with her and I felt I made the best decisions. I highly recommend EBD Music lessons
