I am a professional singer, musician and singing, performing and piano teacher with 17 years of experience in teaching students of all ages, from 3 to 90 years old, in three different countries. Teaching is my passion, and I am dedicated to help my students develop and find their musical talent and voice and to build their confidence within themselves. I believe that everyone can learn how to sing and play instruments. Music is powerful, inspiring and healing, and I will help you to accomplish your goals, whether it is to be able to sing karaoke or if you want to get to a higher level, like developing a career in music. I will help you to build your confidence, develop and increase your vocal range and the quality of the tone of your voice, teach you vocal technique so you never strain or hurt your voice while singing, teach you how to work with musicians and how to perform on stage. I will help you in strengthening your breathing and support. If you want to learn how to sing and play the piano at the same time, I can combine the lessons to both piano and voice. I teach all genres of music, including pop, jazz, rock, county, R&B, and classical if requested. My key teaching skills are as follows: * Teaching of vocal technique and vocal exercises * Development of vocal range and voice quality * Piano instruction * Piano accompaniment of students * Inquiry-based teaching * Development of musicianship and performance skills * Development of great breathing technique and strong breath control * Leading and conducting of bands and choirs * Written evaluation of student progress * Creation of individualized, engaging, and goal-directed lesson plans * Student motivation * Teaching the importance of integrating music theory and vocal practice * Confidence building and individual style encouragement * Organization of student performances * Help in preparing students for auditions and performance As a professional singer and musician, I have performed in Sweden, England and in the USA at many different venues and with many different bands and groups, especially as a jazz and pop singer. I also write my own music and work as a singer/songwriter. In addition, I work as a studio-session singer for recording artists. I am very passionate about sharing my love for music and helping my students accomplish their goals. I am a very positive and happy person, and I promise that you will have a good and inspiring time learning, making music and accomplishing your dreams and goals, all at the same time!

Learn to play piano quickly and easily! I offer Simply Music piano lessons for beginner and intermediate students who want to play a bunch of great-sounding songs, including pop, blues, classical and accompaniments, all without the need for note reading! The songs are fun and singable selections that also work as building blocks for student compositions and improvisations. Reading instruction is delayed until a student has had the opportunity to navigate his/her way across the piano, playing a variety of music. Once a musical "vocabulary" is established, reading is introduced in a very natural simple way. Please check out Simply Music for more information!

  • Piano Lessons

I began classical piano lessons at the age of five. In high school, I entered competitions and was selected to perform at Stanford University and San Jose State University. I completed the Music Teacher's Association through advanced level. In 2011, I embarked on a new career in music education with hopes of sharing the gift of music by educating young children. I don't believe in a cookie-cutter approach to piano that fits every single student. I design lessons so that the child is engaged and listening attentively. I integrate fun and interesting activities to help my students learn, such as clapping to teach rhythm, singing to teach scales, and choosing songs that children hear in movies. I specialize in children of all intellectual abilities. As a current graduate student pursuing a master's in education with teaching credentials in single subject (music), multiple subject, and special education, I integrate what I've been learning in my graduate classes with my piano students in addition to my personal experience as a pianist. I recommend 30-minute lessons for children ages five and up, although this can vary. Weekly lessons are recommended. For teens, adolescents, and adults, I recommend a one-hour lesson.

  • Veronika's Piano Studio

I have extensive formal training in music teaching, from both Russia (B.A.) and the U.S (M.A.). I teach students of any age/all levels. Students can take individual, semiprivate or group lessons. Prices of individual lessons depend on time and day of the week (starting from $20/30 min or $40/hour at my home and up to $75/hour at students' homes). Most of my students practice regularly and show great progress. At the same time, I do accept into my studio people who want to take lessons for leisure or "brain workout", who have no instrument at home, and therefore play piano only once a week, during our lesson. I welcome everyone who wants to play piano, whatever his/her reason is. There are two recitals per year.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Betsy Grant Music

(4 reviews)

What do you love about your job?

I love helping others explore and develop their creative abilities. I also love introducing others to their potential inherent capabilities in learning a new skill or developing one they already have. I see that self-discipline is a wonderful tool to help them develop fully. Whether it’s helping others develop a foundation for self-expression or whether they already have one, I love to encourage others in that regard. To me, music is so much more than an artistic achievement, it's teaching life skills.

Who inspired you to start your own business?

I've been interested in music for as long as I can remember. Keith Jarrett was a great inspiration to me. I remember going to a concert of his when I was about 17 years old and being totally amazed at his freedom of expression. Jose Iturbi was a friend of the family. I played for him often as a child growing up. He helped me grow as a pianist. I also had the privilege of playing for Aaron Copland when I was a teen. He was very humble and appreciative of my playing.
