Lawrence was prompt and courteous. The gig was challenging - photograph and film 14 children carolers on a public street and into nearby restaurants. I received a DVD with the original files within days of the shoot and without extra charge. The quality of the photos and video is excellent. I was able to share the files with other parents and my family without additional fees. I'll certainly hire Lawrence again!

A few nights ago, we hosted a very special movie night. It was to promote a film for a good cause (called The Promise), of which all of its box office proceeds get donated to refugees and charities worldwide. We invited 282 guests to the movie and an hosted after party at a nearby restaurant. We wanted to capture the memorable night and have a quick turnaround with the photos, so we can post to social media and promote this cause. Diane was AMAZING! From the moment we communicated, everything was smooth. I knew we were in good hands. She is friendly, professional, hard working and talented. She is passionate about her work and she produces great results. She followed through with everything she said she would do. She quickly sent us our photos, edited and had it all looking good. We met a wonderful photographer in this process and made a friend. We will reach out to Diane again. Thank you Diane! 💐

I hired Rand and his team to film my keynote speech and put together a highlight "sizzle" reel. The experience -- including professionalism, customer service, quick turn-around time, and depth of knowledge -- was top notch. I brought Nick on for two projects as a behind the scenes photographer - first for a short narrative film set in the 1950s and second for a dystopic music video featuring an emerging soulful R&B artist. Nick was communicative and asked thorough questions about our shotlist and the aesthetic of images we wanted to have captured. He is flexible, extremely talented with a great eye for candid and honest shots and was able to provide excellent coverage for our multiple day productions. I would without hesitation recommend Nick for set portraiture, especially if you are looking for someone who can be a fly on the wall, totally non-intrusive and quick and light on his feet, with instinct for getting what you need.

I’ve worked with La Luna on a number of occasions, but most notably some music videos. Even years ago, before he had all the amazing equipment and experience he has now, it was always very apparent the unique eye and raw talent he possesses for videography and especially for editing. I’ve seen him take raw iPhone footage and turn it into what looks like a fully produced masterpiece. Nico is worth a lot more than he charges, and he’s also just a sweet dude to work with and to be around. Can’t say enough good things about La Luna! - Brent

Ian was very professional and fairly priced. He showed up early even though he traveled 2 1/2 hours, and edited the raw film perfectly. I was very pleased with the final product. My event was a Military Funeral and even though he had never done a funeral before, he captured the ceremony perfectly. I would highly recommend him for any of your video needs.

I really wanted someone to be able to capture the latin vibes at our wedding last month. We are extremely happy that we made the right choice of going with NewlyWed Cinema! They had experience with Mexican and Latin Weddings and saw that their work was perfect for what my husband and I wanted. Luis Angel was punctual and patient with all of wedding day craziness and our big family expectations. We love that he made an instant connection with my mom and dad by being able to speak Spanish with them. And now after seeing the finished masterpiece of our Wedding Day Film, we are thrilled to the moon and back by how he captured all of the emotions that were experienced on our big day. From my family to yours, do yourself a favor and hire Luis Angel and the Newlywed Cinema team!

From the beginning it was very easy to work with him. He quickly replies to emails and scheduling was a breeze. I needed to film a short clip and had to have it set up in my home. David brought all the equipment that we needed, had a great eye, and listened and executed on my vision. Extremely happy with the result! David has exceptional talent. Would be thrilled to work with him again.

We only had about a month to get a company overview video done in time for a conference we were exhibiting at that we wanted to premier the video during. So we desperately needed a good professional video production company to film at all four of our company's facilities located across the US as well as the UK and meet all of our demanding needs. Beverly Boy Productions did an awesome job getting this done for us in such a short amount of time, and really brought our story to life. They worked around the clock for us, and exceeded all our expectations. The producer we worked with from BBP, Jonathan Saldebar, was fantastic! He did an excellent job of managing this project, communicating with us throughout the entire process, and conveying our story line to his team. Everyone we worked with from Beverly Boy Productions was very professional. We really couldn't have pulled this off without them. Our employees, customers, industry colleagues, families, and friends have all been very impressed by this video. It has already paid for itself with the awesome publicity it has brought us, and we are excited to continue sharing the video over the next few years.

I have worked with him over the past 6 years as a director, post production engineer, motion graphics and graphics designer and editor. Joseph handles all of these with deftness and skill, and he is a fount of ideas. All the projects I have hired him for have benefited greatly from his participation. His wide range of capabilities does not diminish his capacity for any singular area of expertise. I would hire him and recommend him confidently for any of the skills listed above.

We worked with Pierce on creating a video invitation for an event we were hosting. Our timeline was very short and he was able to accommodate with our needs by turning a final product around quickly and we were very happy with the result. He was professional and prepared with questions to gain an understanding of what we were aiming to do. His creative mindset supported a smooth and time efficient filming process. We recommend New Revolution Media to colleagues and friends for their needs as well.

Erik and I worked together on a commercial for my old employer, Asian Food Grocer. He and I planned the commercial from the beginning- writing, staging shots, recruiting actors. At every step he was professional, resourceful, and exceptionally creative. The filming of the commercial went smoothly, and what really blew me away were his skills as an editor. And even though it was my project that I came to him with, he put in more hours than I did, and worked far beyond what I ever expected or asked for. I am incredibly happy with his work, and I hope his future projects only get bigger and better

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
