Kristina is a delight to work with! As I began to plateau with self learning of Spanish, Kristina offered a lot of experience in language learning. She balances her curriculum well with coaching, tools/resources, and conversation, which aim to provide an immersive language-learning experience. She also facilitates an environment that is both professional and fun. And I can't complain about her hourly rate. Thanks Kristina!

Angela is an incredibly patient and knowledgeable tutor. She works closely with the student to understand their goals for fluency and as the lessons begin to pick up momentum she skillfully identifies where individual trouble points are and how to effectively address them. She makes her lessons interactive and always brings in her cultural perspective to the lessons. I look forward to my weekly sessions with Angela.

I took one-on-one classes for 2 weeks and was very happy with the lessons. I found them to be a good combination of grammar and conversation and also tailored to my needs - in terms of class content, exercises and also scheduling.

Scott has been helping me with the language for almost a year now. I'm a native Russian speaker and make a lot of "classic" Russian pronunciation mistakes. Scott does a great job at helping me to eliminate them. Scott is also a professional RU-EN translator, and this comes in surprisingly handy in our lessons. Often, if there's a Russian idiom I'd like to use in English, Scott comes up with a nice translation for me. Finally, since cultures in Russia and US differ and I moved only a few years ago, it's not always obvious to me why certain things are the way they are here. Scott lived in a Russian-speaking country for quite some time and he really understands both mentalities. His first-hand experience is really valuable for someone like me, and Scott is always happy to answer questions.

I had the pleasure of working with Linda at EF Language School in San Francisco for over a year. Her diverse background in the arts and science enables her to bring a wealth of practical, real-life experience to her lessons. Linda is greatly liked and respected equally by students and teachers. I think one of the best words to describe Linda is "dedicated," as she has a commitment to her students and their learning that is truly admirable. Don't miss this opportunity to study English with a wonderful, fun, and funny teacher who will craft creative and engaging lessons geared to a student's needs, interests, and learning style!

Dani was my first English teacher, and I remember clearly of her sweet welcoming high-five on our first day of class. She contributed a lot not only to my language learning, but also to my professional career for I am an English teacher as well. I remember her classes were really motivating, interesting, and fun. She provided us with clear explanations and was open to answer our questions. All my classmates felt in a very comfortable and safe environment throughout the course. Dani is a very prepared and effective teacher. She has linguistic and applied-linguistic knowledge, great teaching skills and respect and for her profession as well as for her students.

Corinne did an AMAZING job translating English-Mandarin content for our company. We exclusively worked with her for all marketing materials, legal documents, and service offerings. She's thorough, fast, and understands the nuance of the language very well. Corinne also helped us communicate in Mandarin to clients and prospects over the phone and email. She's a joy to work with and I highly recommend her for any of your Mandarin translation projects!

I have twins in high school and they both really enjoy working with Scott. They learned so much in the initial "Writing Basics 101" with Scott, and now they work via email with him on various assignments. Scott is meticulous. Rather than sending quick edits on the writing samples, Scott responds with detailed explanations. He also checks in with me on their progress.

          About

I offer a joyful learning of French. I am a French instructor who loves my work, and I have taught in the high school and college levels for over 25 years. I am credentialed by the State of California to teach in the community college system, and I have an M.A. in French from UC Berkeley. I emphasize a solid grounding in the workings of the French language, and I aim to bring my students to meaningful self-expression. I've had a lot of success with students who are shy or feel that they don't learn languages easily. Having spoken French since the age of 13, and having lived and studied in France, I speak with a native accent. (As a matter of fact, I particularly enjoy teaching students how to pronounce authentically, and often when they go to France afterwards, the French are a bit floored!) The name of my school is "French with Joy", and in fact, my students feel really at ease, enjoy the classes, and laugh a lot.

          About

I teach Spanish, either oral or written, in 1-hour private classes. I have 2 years experience doing so. Thank you for your interest. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

          About

Bonjour à tous! My name is Quentin, and I'm a French native speaker with a Master's degree in Public Relations. I recently moved from France to San Francisco for an internship at a PR agency. I started teaching French two years ago during my exchange year at San Jose State University. Back then, I tutored middle school and college students, as well as professionals. I have lived in France for over 21 years, and I am completely bilingual. Adapting my courses to your level and expectations, I can help you improve your conversation, accent, grammar, vocabulary or even French culture and history. It is entirely up to you. I am available to help you improve your French all around San Francisco, on evenings or during the weekend. Please feel free to contact me, and we'll see what works best for your specific case!

          About

          About

Because we are small, we are able to offer a far more personalized approach than many large tutoring houses. Yet, we have the tools, training, and know-how of a large academic institution. For each student, we systematically work to identify problems, and then collaboratively create a plan to solve them using innovative curriculum design. Above all else, we are passionate about what we do! We care about genuine knowledge and understanding: we look beyond the numbers. We teach students to set their own goals, not merely jump through the hoops in front of them. We strongly believe that any student can succeed with the right combination of guidance, enthusiasm, and challenge.

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
