Tyler was great - they offered me a free estimate and could do same day service on garage door repair. Other estimates were $50-$125. He was courteous and professional on the phone. Would definitely use them again!

In the process of going to the Bay Area for a family emergency but the garage door would not open. I immediately went on line to look for emergency garage door repairs. When I shared with Basem Tawadrous my situation, he was on his way. He took the time to tell us as he inspected what happened and what needed to be done. Extremely thorough, professional and very pleasant attitude. Would highly recommend and will use Basem again. Thank you!

Tyler and his crew were great to work with. Their prices are competitive, and scheduling was fairly simple. The door we selected is beautiful, and the installation was clean, quick, and painless. The only icing on the cake I would have loved is if they would have offered us the weather sealing accessories to complete the entire look. But we thank you for your help! Our Garage door looks great. We'll be sure to send pics once we clean up :)

I HIGHLY recommend Precision Door Services for garage door repair or replacement. We were in a pickle yesterday when the spring broke on our garage door and we couldn't open/close it... Heading into the holiday weekend, I called expecting I wouldn't be able to get anyone over until next week, and Precision had a tech come 2 hour later. Their fee was 1/2 of what the other garage repair company I called, and Precision further reduces the fee if you do the repair with them. The tech, James, super helpful, explained what had happened and what needed to be done to fix it and protect future damage. He had the tools and supplies and got it done on the spot. Precision definitely exceeded expectations!

Rick was very personable and professional. He is very knowledgeable and has a wide skill set from general handyman repairs to electrical/lighting work. He has great home improvement ideas and gave me free advice on several projects around the house to increase safety and insulation. He went the extra mile with helping me pick up furniture from a store. He is fair with his pricing and didn't charge me for time, if something was not fixable or needed a different part. I hope to retain him as a handyman for all my home repair and improvement needs.

This business is hands-down the best! We recently had a spring break on our garage door and Garage Door Express was able to schedule a replacement the same day. Leo, the outstanding service technician, was right on time. He quickly assessed the situation, offered a lot of great information about the health of the whole system (door, rollers, spring, and opener), and got to work. Leo was fast, friendly, and very knowledgeable. One example of Leo’s professionalism and the care the company takes was his recommendation that we consider replacing our old wobbly metal rollers with newer 11-bearing, nylon coated rollers. I was skeptical at first (fearing it was only an up-charge opportunity), but the price was great and Leo's expert knowledge made me believe it was the right thing to do. I'm really glad we did because the door is now nearly silent when it operates - it's an amazing difference! Once the work was completed, Leo made sure everything was clean, was very helpful regarding payment, and even walked us through how to conduct quarterly preventative maintenance. This is our first time using Garage Door Express and we will continue to use them so long as we live in the Sacramento/Roseville area. If you need garage door work, our experiences indicate you will not go wrong if you choose Garage Door Express.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.
