Allen T. says, "There are three of us in my family currently being trained by Jason, and soon, it might be the whole family! I was the first to start. At 58, I had begun noticing a decline in my muscle mass—my arms, legs, and even my neck looked and felt scrawnier. It was unsettling. As someone who spends all day working on a computer, I worried about the long-term degenerative effects of such a sedentary lifestyle. A coworker of mine, who’s older than me and recently had a heart attack, had been working with Jason to recover and maintain his strength. That made me think: *Why wait for something serious to happen before taking action?* So, I signed up for Jason’s group kettlebell class. Right away, I appreciated Jason’s down-to-earth and friendly personality. He took the time to evaluate my fitness level and taught me how to safely swing a kettlebell. I did well in the class, and it was a lot of fun, so I decided to join the weekly group sessions. Five months in, I’ve noticed a significant return of my muscle mass and an overall improvement in my fitness. Jason’s classes are challenging but well-structured—he emphasizes proper form, uses the right amount of weight to push us, and carefully plans repetitions and sets. I’ve even started practicing the exercises at home on my own, which shows how much his training has motivated me. Next is my 14-year-old son. Like many teenagers, he was glued to his computer and resisted any kind of physical activity. I introduced him to Jason, hoping it would help—and it did! Jason trains him privately once a week with a varied circuit of exercises. It’s been five months, and my son hasn’t rebelled—which is a win in itself! He’s also gotten noticeably stronger. When he started, he could barely do one push-up, but recently, during a challenge with friends, he managed 27 push-ups in a row!. I’ve even noticed him instinctively using proper squat form to pick things up off the floor instead of bending his back. I’m confident Jason’s training will keep my son fit and healthy, and I hope it will eventually inspire him to exercise on his own. Then there’s my 24-year-old daughter, a licensed physical therapist. When I showed her photos of my son’s workouts with Jason, she was impressed. Despite her knowledge of exercise and rehabilitation, she admitted she lacked the motivation to work out on her own. Based on my and my son’s positive experiences, she decided to sign up with Jason for two private sessions a week. She says Jason’s ability to motivate and tailor workouts to her needs has made all the difference, and she’s convinced that he’s the real deal. Lastly, my wife, who already has a free personal trainer at work, observed my daughter during one of her sessions with Jason. She was so impressed by Jason’s training style and personality that she’s now considering signing up with him too. Soon, it looks like our entire family will be part of Team Jason!"See more

Katie J. says, "Working with Anne has been one of the best investments I’ve made in my health. I’ve worked with trainers before, but none have the depth of knowledge, encouragement, and ability to meet me exactly where I am. Every workout is personalized to my goals, fitness level, and even how I’m feeling that day. Anne has an incredible eye for movement and teaches proper form in a way that’s easy to understand. I feel stronger, more mobile, and more confident than I have in years. What really sets her apart is that she cares about the whole person—not just workouts. She helped me build healthy habits, stay accountable, and believe in myself again. She celebrates every win and somehow knows exactly when to encourage me or challenge me. If you’re looking for someone who truly understands women over 40, strength training, mobility, weight loss, or simply getting your life back, I can’t recommend Anne highly enough. She’s knowledgeable, professional, encouraging, and genuinely invested in her clients’ success. If I could give more than five stars, I would."See more

Prabhat K. says, "Marwan is really an amazing swimming coach to have. It is rare to really have an Olympian as your coach frankly. He observes what you are doing and then tailors the lessons to make you a better swimmer. He is patient with you and has the right coaching mentality. I am an adult learning my swimming in my 40s and he encourages me and gives me the confidence and instills the right techniques for me to be a successful swimmer. I believe if you are just learning to swim or you want to improve your swimming techniques, Marwan is the coach you should get. Rooting for Marwan’s success for LA 2028 Olympics where he plans on to representing USA."See more

Fredrik A. says, "My son has worked with Scott for a while now, and his advancement from session to session is clearly noticeable. We started when he was young and Scott tailored the sessions to be fun and engaging, balancing skill development with the basics of sports psychology. As he grew in age, skill, and confidence, Scott evolved his approach to challenge, motivate, and support his development at each stage. We've worked with other coaches and they generally focus on mechanics and technique, which Scott does as well, but Scott has been unique in how much attention he focuses on developing the mental strength, strategic thinking, and resilience when things don't go well, aimed squarely at getting the kids ready for tournament play and beyond. It's been great seeing my kid apply these lessons in real life, whether playing with me for fun, or in a junior tournament. Situations that would frustrate him in the past are now handled with grace. He's grown in his ability to persevere when he struggles, and his physical game and confidence has grown in equal measure. His goal this year is to make his high school team, and Scott is building a dedicated plan to support him, which includes both targeted training sessions working around his school schedule as well as sharing books, videos, and self study materials. It really feels like Scott is an invested member of our kid's life rather than just a coach that helps him with his serve! TL;DR I've been very grateful for Scott's support and involvement, and I encourage anyone looking to up their tennis game to reach out to Scott!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.
