Lucy Barajas says, "First and foremost, I want to preface that Ive been an athlete my entire life however, Ive never had a personal trainer. Being an athlete requires a lot of discipline and accountability and that is something that I was looking for when I began researching for personal trainers. I came across Jay on Instagram (@jaycromero) and what stood out to me was his vulnerability to add in his own progress photos. This convinced me that because he held himself accountable I would be able to trust him to do the same with my progress. During the intake, Jay made it feel as if you were talking to an old friend, and there was never any judgment in the questions he asked. He was very knowledgeable of the nutrients and calories the human body needs versus the extra calories that result in weight gain. I was set up to use an app that included a meal plan, scheduled workout and progress photos. I know this sounds expensive however, Jay has three different plans you can choose from that fit your budget and they all include having these benefits. The only difference is how consistent you have the 1:1 trainings. Moving on, the nutritional plan that i was given is amazing because Jay basis it off of the amount you eat already and the foods you like so youre able to build a healthy habit with food which will benefit you when you no longer have his services instead of what most mainstream trainers do and that is have someone eat close to nothing in terms of what the person was eating before they began training so they are more likely to cheat their meals and in turn make no progress so its money wasted. Additionally, I was partnered with a trainer by the name of Salvatore. He has the same non-judgmental characteristics as Jay and will push you to do one more rep than you intended but you get constant validation that youre stronger than you think and youre doing a great job which makes you want to continue progressing. Not only are they encouraging for workouts but they take the time to celebrate small victories like not being winded going up the stairs which is a big leap for me personally. I have had their services for a total of 10 days and I have already lost 4 pounds! Whaat! Crazyy I know and I am so excited to continue my journey with them!"See more

Allen T. says, "There are three of us in my family currently being trained by Jason, and soon, it might be the whole family! I was the first to start. At 58, I had begun noticing a decline in my muscle mass—my arms, legs, and even my neck looked and felt scrawnier. It was unsettling. As someone who spends all day working on a computer, I worried about the long-term degenerative effects of such a sedentary lifestyle. A coworker of mine, who’s older than me and recently had a heart attack, had been working with Jason to recover and maintain his strength. That made me think: *Why wait for something serious to happen before taking action?* So, I signed up for Jason’s group kettlebell class. Right away, I appreciated Jason’s down-to-earth and friendly personality. He took the time to evaluate my fitness level and taught me how to safely swing a kettlebell. I did well in the class, and it was a lot of fun, so I decided to join the weekly group sessions. Five months in, I’ve noticed a significant return of my muscle mass and an overall improvement in my fitness. Jason’s classes are challenging but well-structured—he emphasizes proper form, uses the right amount of weight to push us, and carefully plans repetitions and sets. I’ve even started practicing the exercises at home on my own, which shows how much his training has motivated me. Next is my 14-year-old son. Like many teenagers, he was glued to his computer and resisted any kind of physical activity. I introduced him to Jason, hoping it would help—and it did! Jason trains him privately once a week with a varied circuit of exercises. It’s been five months, and my son hasn’t rebelled—which is a win in itself! He’s also gotten noticeably stronger. When he started, he could barely do one push-up, but recently, during a challenge with friends, he managed 27 push-ups in a row!. I’ve even noticed him instinctively using proper squat form to pick things up off the floor instead of bending his back. I’m confident Jason’s training will keep my son fit and healthy, and I hope it will eventually inspire him to exercise on his own. Then there’s my 24-year-old daughter, a licensed physical therapist. When I showed her photos of my son’s workouts with Jason, she was impressed. Despite her knowledge of exercise and rehabilitation, she admitted she lacked the motivation to work out on her own. Based on my and my son’s positive experiences, she decided to sign up with Jason for two private sessions a week. She says Jason’s ability to motivate and tailor workouts to her needs has made all the difference, and she’s convinced that he’s the real deal. Lastly, my wife, who already has a free personal trainer at work, observed my daughter during one of her sessions with Jason. She was so impressed by Jason’s training style and personality that she’s now considering signing up with him too. Soon, it looks like our entire family will be part of Team Jason!"See more

Golam says, "My job can be very stressful & I had allowed myself to get really out of shape. So, last summer, I decided to find a personal trainer who would not only motivate me but to push me to put myself first, instead of always saying to myself “I will work out tomorrow…I will eat better tomorrow…One day won’t make me fat”. I researched several trainers and found Svetness personal training company. They assigned Daniel as my personal trainer. By far Daniel is the most professional, realistic and down to earth. He does not blow the “smoke” many trainers do, he also is the only trainer (and he is my 3rd…from the same company) who explains proper form and method behind his training. Best part, he is very very friendly and fun to work with :). Since working with Daniel, I feel very energetic and motivated. and I feel lot stronger than I used to be. If not for Daniel, I would absolutely be so stressed from work that I would be miserable (also fact that i am expecting my first child in couple of months), but thanks to Daniel, I can leave that from my mind! If you are thinking of going to a trainer, I cannot recommend Daniel enough, he is worth every penny and more! Do yourself a favor and call Svetness today and ask for Daniel!"See more

Beth M. says, "I HIGHLY recommend joining Be The Best You Fitness program! It is the best investment in myself since I can remember. I am loving the class structure and how personalized it is for being in a group. Alyssa is such a positive light and extremely motivating! In just a few weeks time I am feeling so much stronger and I would not have gotten this far by myself. Since the groups are kept small it really is very personalized to everyone in the class. If anyone has a current or past injury Alyssa instructs a modification. I have such great peace of mind in recovering from my own past injuries to train safely. The trainings are kept to one hour and I love how efficient the time is spent for everything accomplished. I am SO happy to have joined this program!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.
