“Our non-profit organization 'Bangladeshi American California Society' (BACS) recently received our "Tri-Folder' complete amazing colorful design artwork from Sabina Islam, and we are once again thrilled with the lay- out and art-work she developed for our Special Event in Los Angeles. She managed to capture the perfect essence of what our event stands for in her creative and striking design. Our invited guests are able to identify our organization through the impressive branding she has designed for us with her outstanding creative ideas. Sabina islam was even able to work within our extremely tight deadlines. It was a very short notice..literally less than 48 hours to complete the design with our event's pictures, texts etc. We are so grateful to have an excellent 'Graphic Designer' like Sabina, who has such a " deep commitment to the community, helping us with all our design needs. We really appreciated Sabina Islam's flexibility and efficiency. Giving great direction as well as listening to ideas is what makes Sabina Islam an amazing creative professional. It’s great to work with someone so open-minded and responsive. I would recommend her to any prospective clients, friends or employers and I have a high level of respect for her. Thank you for completing our project creatively, professionally, and promptly, and for an overall positive experience.”

I started working with Fernando and PK Consulting last month. They are fast, professional, creative and have always exceeded my expectations on the several projects we have worked together. We started working on few logos, then t-shirts and now on my new e-commerce website. I recommend using them.

Mauri was by far the easiest to talk to, friendly and above all, intelligent, organized and creative minds I have ever encountered. Always terrified writing my own resumes, with several bad and uncomfortable experiences with third party companies who never seemed to listen or convey the information I gave them, it was a true breath of fresh air to find Mauri. Not only did she actively listen to me go on and on with the patience of saint, but was kind enough to help me find the self esteem and for the first time in my life, have a resume I not only feel comfortable representing me, but proud to present to perspective employers. Too bad there aren't 100 more like her.

Kerry tutored my daughter, who was 8 and then turned 9 at the time, in math and other subjects. Kerry encouraged her to use her creativity and imagination to think outside the box and get the job done. Kerry was extremely reliable, trustworthy and dependable. Her communication with me was always appreciated and my daughter really enjoyed spending time with her.

Working with Jessica was super easy and a great experience. She helped me with the writing of my ebook. We used an outline I had written to discuss my concepts and thoughts. She then wrote a draft, which began an iterative process. She used a writing style that matched what I needed and through a back and forth process we completed exactly the book I was hoping for! Jessica was reliable, patient, very easy to work with and finished this on the timeframe that I needed. I wholeheartedly recommend her and will use her again!

Margi always does a great job with her business coaching. We have been in business for 8 years in two locations and Margi's improvisational style to coaching unique problems has always helped me see a perspective that I had no idea was even an option. I value her opinion and expertise in any business problem we have. She is also highly creative and will bring up solutions to potential road blocks that we did not even see. She is invaluable to me!

Joseph Descans helped me with the editing of several documents. His knowledge and editing skills were outstanding, and his patience with the process was the best part. It can be tremendously frustrating when you have "writer's block" and the words just don't come out right, but a patient tutor is such a great asset to have in your back pocket!

KGI Solutions has been fabulous to work with over the years. In addition to handling all of our printing requirements, any time we needed something special for an employee or client giveaway, they were there with thoughtful, innovative and reasonably priced alternatives. Events, such as award ceremonies and also holiday gifts are always handled on time, elegantly and with our budget in mind. I highly recommend KGI Solutions for all printing projects and promotional needs!"

My resumes are written with the five key elements that hiring managers respond positively to: clear, concise, meaningful, quantifiable and targeted. And, I make sure they are visually beautiful to look at so what you end up with is a highly polished written piece that wholly flatters you and your abilities.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
