I was looking for an instructor to host cooking classes in my studio kitchen. Thumbtack has helped me to find two most desirable instructors that I looking for. Chef Caitlin is one of them. I am very happy with the communication with Thumbtack. It was easy to use their service. I will continue to use their service to find a pro in the future.

Chef Diane, I just wanted to email you to let you know that my son participated in a week long summer camp with you many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. When it came time for my son to decide what to do after graduating from high school in May of 2012, he thought long and hard about it. I reminded him of how much he enjoyed your cooking classes and that sparked his interest again. Well, my son, now 18 years old, just graduated from Lincoln Culinary Institute in Columbia, MD! He works at Clyde's Tower Oaks Lodge in Rockville, MD and has just gotten his first entree on the menu there, Sauteed Duck Breast with duck confit, spaghetti squash, scrambled duck egg, fried tofu, bean sprouts, carrots, scallions, peanuts and "pad thai" sauce (pictures included). He has also had 2 appetizers on the menu previously, Barcat Oyster "Po' Boy" Crostini and Sauteed Chicken Livers. I just wanted you to know what an influence your kids camp/classes had on my son. Thank you, JoAnne K.

I have been working with Pam Vagnieres and her Nutri-Physique Nutrition and Exercise programs for several years. I found Pam through her healthy cooking classes, they are fantastic! You learn to cook healthy, amazing meals, while getting the nutritional information about the foods you eat via lecture and handouts, including lots of fabulous recipes. Pam literally spoon feeds you the best and latest nutritional information available in a way that is interesting, fun and critical if you want to be on a healthy path. You learn so much about what you should and shouldn't eat, it will truly change your life! She also offers private nutrition consultations and exercise programs that are tailored to each individual's needs. I would enthusiastically recommend her to anyone who is seeking the most current information on nutrition, help preparing healthy, delicious meals, and nutrition and exercise programs all leading to living a healthier way of life!

Erin was the instructor for more than two years when my son was taking cooking classes at a local cooking school. My son LOVED classes with her. She was kind and caring and really inspired him to want to become a chef. Since that point, Erin helped my son get his first volunteer job in food services at a local hospital. Erin was an important, positive role model in my son's life. Great chef, too, of course! Thank you, Erin.

Connor was so wonderful! We hired him to teach a cooking class at a bridal shower, and he was so much fun! He taught us how to make two delicious treats and helped make the party entertaining and fun! I will hire him again!! He took time to make sure we had the perfect menu and answered all of my questions leading up to the event, he made us feel like we were his only client (though I know he is busy) The girls are still talking about the party.

Alma Kitchen + Catering produced a gourmet dinner spread for a recent July 4th Celebration in a private residence. The menu was classy BBQ and included Korean BBQ sliders and Coffee Chili Rub beef kabobs. The menu was modern and sexy and approachable! Head chef Ruben was extremely professional and enjoyed chatting about the food with the guests. His knowledge, excitement, and integrity for producing a unique food experience is just one reason why he will be invited back to our next event.

Chef Tony was great to work with! He came to my home to give a cooking lesson to my teenagers and taught them about technique, cooking styles, cutting basics and more. He was a pleasure to work with and both kids (16 yrs) enjoyed the cooking and the delicious meal! I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for someone to come to the house. I'm sure he'd do a great job catering as well.

Had an amazing time with Jay. I have done a few cooking classes with him and have learned more in the few classes than I have in ten years! I enjoyed the fact that any dish I love to eat he would teach me to create. I have always been a simple cook at home, but he helped me learn what cooking really is! I highly suggest his service!

Shrutika’s skills exceed far beyond food preparation. Yes, she is very talented at cooking a wide array of international meals and desserts. Every thing I have tasted that she has prepared is simply mouth watering! To top it off, she uses organic and very healthy ingredients. I leave feeling well fed and completely delighted. Having the aptitude and insight into cooking is wonderful; however, Shrutika brings much more insight to the table. Because she has a technology background, she is analytical and methodical. The combination of her cooking abilities and efficient nature is a great recipe for a fantastic entrepreneur. I have found that Shrutika organizes and plans everything to perfection. Plus, she is friendly and so much fun! I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed hiring Shrutika for catering, cooking classes, or any services she provides.

We love Truly Gourmet!! Chef Johnson is an amazing cook, prices are affordable, food is great quality. She offers lots of options to fit your family needs. I have picky eaters but we have not had one thing from her that my kids have not thoroughly enjoyed! It is so nice to sit down to dinner and look around in awe at the silence because everyone (including picky eaters) are enjoying their food!

Kat was my personal yoga instructor and chef for almost a year before her departure from Milwaukee to Colorado. Let me say first, there is not a day that goes by without me missing her services. Kat is kind, compassionate and incredibly talented. Her yoga services allowed me as a true beginner to enjoy and feel the benefits of yoga. She was patient with me and a great teacher of positions that allowed my body to stretch and release. I am a stage two diabetic and the yoga had a profound effect upon my condition for the good. After learning that Kat had head chef talents, I asked her to come twice a week to my home and prepare meals for myself and my son. The meal plans were excellent and the food, well, there are few fine restaurants that could compete. Kat was very fair with the economics of the work as well. It made for pleasant meals when coming home from work. My son continues to ask where is she and can she come back to Milwaukee for a time to come and prepare food. It is critical in any review that one have trust, confidence and successful communication. Kat gets an A+ from me in all regards. You will be lucky and fortunate to have here skills. My suggestion is do not hesitate. We enjoyed her immensely and miss her yoga and cooking talents. Thanks for listening.

Spencer has catered 2 parties in our home. One a smaller meal for 12, and then a party for 50. He is super easy to work with, had great ideas for menu planning and dishes and the food was fabulous. Plus we had some gluten and dairy restrictions and he was able to easily accommodate that. We got so many compliments. We consider him now our default caterer and will call him for any future events.

Participated in a class and made Indian food. It has always been an interest of mine due to my world travels to learn cuisine from some of my destinations. The evening was not only fun but well organized and kept us all on our toes! I will be back!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
