We are in the process of flipping a home which needed exterior paint. Nate was painting a neighboring home during our flip and it looked like they were doing a very nice job. Nate came over and prepared a bid for our home, which came in around $600.00 below another bid we had received. The job was scheduled for 2 weeks later and communication was continued through email. Nate was very responsive and quick to reply with any questions. The job had to be delayed one day, but again, communication was very good. Upon completion of the job, I was very happy with the results as the siding on parts of the house was very weathered which required additional amounts of paint and back rolling to achieve complete coverage. The house looks great and will definitely increase the chances of receiving full asking price.

The painting project I had done was completed in a quick and efficient manner. The knowledge Stephen holds added great value and integrity. All of my questions were answered (there were A LOT) and the work was up to my standards (which is quite HIGH). I enjoyed working with him and plan on using him again to finish the rest of my house.

This is one of the most professional and efficient companies that I refer business to. As a very busy Realtor in the area I need to know that I can count on my vendors to be fair and honest with my clients. Mark and Five Star Painting is that company. They show up on time, complete the work as promised, and are by far the most precise painters I have ever used. I refer all of my clients to Mark and Five Star Painting.

I had a great experience working with Frank on a recent painting project. We had just bought a house and budget was tight, but Frank worked with us on the cost and provided practical advice. Since we weren't able to be at the house to let him in, I simply gave him a key so he could come and go freely during the project period, even when we were not around, which sped up the delivery. This level of trust between a customer and a contractor is important to me. Everything was done to satisfaction and I plan to do many more projects with Frank in coming months.

I’m getting ready to put my house for sale the beginning of next year and I needed to have my cabinets refinished. I found Mike with Colorado Craft Finishes through Home Advisor after reviewing or speaking with two other companies. I went with his company because he took my cabinets doors back to his warehouse to sand and finish. We went with a bright white which I felt would enhance my small condo kitchen. The cabinets look great and I am very pleased with the results. I also had him paint the bathroom cabinet doors and they look new. Mike was a professional who showed up when he said he would or kept me informed if he was late (due to traffic, a problem for everyone now). I also felt comfortable leaving him alone in my house if I had to run errands. I highly recommend Colorado Craft Finishes and I would definitely use his company again.

Karen power washed, sanded, and stained three redwood decks, including the railings. The deck railings were quite weathered since they had been exposed to the sun for several years with no maintenance, and Karen spent a long time removing the old, weathered wood and sanding down the top rails to get them looking good. This was a large job, taking 3 days to complete, and when it was finished the decks look as good as new. Her next job was painting door and window sills that had sustained hail damage, and once again, Karen’s work was exemplary. The sills were carefully sanded and prepped for painting, and the job was completed in less time than anticipated with excellent results. Karen is a hard and meticulous worker with an eye for details, and the results of the jobs she has undertaken for me have exceeded expectations. She is self directed, needing only a rough outline of the nature of the job to be done, and will carry it through to completion without need for any supervision. All work she has done has been excellent and has taken less time than I expected, and I will certainly call on her again the next time I need any work done.

I have several years of artist experience in painting and design. I have experienced many small painting projects over the years, including working with my father in Saint Louis to paint garages, basements and bedrooms. I moved to Colorado after 8 years of serving in the USAF. Although it has been some time since I have done interior painting, I still have the talent necessary to get the job done. Just tell me what you want done, and I will work hard to do my best to make your walls, ceilings and trims stand out. You can ask some professionals with a fancy name or business to do all the hard work and pay them more money than it's worth, or you can count on me to do the work for a fraction of the cost. I promise you the best interior painting experience, or it's free of charge. I will provide brushes, rollers, etc., but I will need to borrow a step ladder. You name your color, Ill name my price and walk away satisfied with the results.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

      How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

      • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
      • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
      • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
      • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
      • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
      • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
