Super responsive. Set up a trampoline for us on Christmas Eve when it was freezing out. We only had a small window while the kids were gone and he and couple guys knocked it down. Great work. Great communication.

Josiah Enyart the owner was very professional and exceeded my expectations. He installed a showerhead that had a quirky angle which caused too much spray on my shower bench. He made some recommendations to address this problem and will be returning to add an elbow to allow directing my multi spray head. While he did the showerhead he pointed out cracks in my grout at various places in the seams. I hired him to also take care of re-grouting and cleaning my shower as he recommended. He was meticulous in selecting the match of existing grout and did a great job. I would not hesitate in hiring again. Pricing was very reasonable and well within my budget. Cleaned up after the job leaving no debris behind. He was a good find on Thumbtack

Very happy with his service on our 2 windows that had broken mechanisms. No bait and switch. The cost was exactly what he guessed it would be without seeing the issue first. He is very kind and honest. He was able to fix the problem right then and there with supplies in his work truck. He called when he thought he might be late but well within the window of time he gave me. I Would recommend his company to anyone.

Maria and her sister did an incredible job! They were extremely thorough. My fridge hasn't been that clean in years, they cleaned inside the oven, and the inside of the cupboards look new. All the windows are sparkling. I just can't say enough about how great the cleaning was!

In January of 2016 we arranged to have almost all the windows replaced in our home, some 24 windows in all. After waiting several months, we discovered that the original company had gone under, and we were left in limbo with half the cost paid and no windows in sight. Then Anton from Prestige Windows & Doors called me. He had stepped in to take over the project not only for us, but for other customers of the defunct company. It turned out that the original company has mis-measured the windows, and the entire lot had to be re-ordered. In addition, some windows were required by code to be tempered, and that had not been accounted for in the original estimate. Anton re-ordered the entire set of windows, paid the additional cost of the tempered windows without passing it on to us, and Prestige Windows & Doors took on the task of finishing the project (which had not really even started). Long story short, Anton and his crew did a fantastic job of replacing all of the windows, kept us informed the whole way through, and literally not only lifted us out of a bad spot, but delivered a job that met and even exceeded our own high expectations. I really can't say enough good things about Anton and his company, Prestige Windows & Doors. Wonderful to work with, highest integrity, and I would call Anton again without hesitation for any window work. I am delighted to have the opportunity to recommend Anton and his company without hesitation or reservation.

So John did a lot of work for us. His craftsmanship is very good. The only thing I wasn't happy with was the actual install of our windows, but his workers did that. One window was damaged going in and when I asked the worker about it, he was defensive and combative. After the windows were installed however, I only worked with John. He did all of the casing around the windows which turned out beautiful. He remodeled our master bath and half bath with marble tile and also did a beautiful job. His tile work is very good. He really pays attention to detail. He cut and installed our baseboard. He installed new plumbing, bathroom cabinets, mirrors, he installed outdoor lighting, he really did a ton of work. I was very happy with all of the work he did. Any problems that may have come up, he addressed immediately. I can't say enough nice things about John.

Josh went above and beyond and did an amazing job! The company we were working with decided to stop contacting us and Josh swooped right in to our rescue and within a very timely manner. Was able to replace all 12 glass pieces in our home that fit with our timeline to put our house on the market! I would definitely recommend him and would use him again in the future.

Conservation Construction is an amazing company! They take care of their employees (from what I am told by an employee) and they did an amazing job on our windows. They have now done my Condo, House and both of my parents houses and one of my brothers houses. They are very clear and upfront about what they sell and the cost. The windows in the Condo are now 5 years old and still doing great. My tenants say it blocks out all highway noise. The windows in my house, which were installed in January are also doing their job! My electric bill has gone down, people actually compliment me on our windows, and it blocks about 95% of all the noise from outside. It is a dramatic improvement from what we did have. My family has been working with them for over 10 years now and we will not use anyone else. We got a quote from Lowes, Home Depot and Anderson Windows before going with Conservation Construction, on each of our homes to always compare before we buy, and they have always outbid their competitors and I think overall build a better window. The crew that came in and installed them were extremely nice and they cleaned up everything. I could not have asked for better!

For some context this was a fairly large commercial project with 40 plus installed windows. That said, Blake and Robert were excellent with communication and responsiveness to updates with the project. The communication and willingness of customer service sets this team apart. I look forward to future projects with this team. I recommend Z Double B with any project ranging with the small to the large. Kevin

We had a great experience with Sears for our windows. Our salesman didn't try to oversell, was very knowledgeable and provided advice to meet our needs. The installation crew were great despite having to come back for extra visits due to the weather. The windows have improved the look of the house and are already keeping the inside temperature moderated well. I would definitely recommend Sears for window needs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
