Omar and team did a fantastic job on our main floor bathroom remodel. We had them install a new custom shower and pan, floor and wall tile with an 18" decorative border and bullnose. There was a lot of detail work involved with this project and it could not have turned out better. I will be hiring them again for my upcoming projects and would recommend them to others.

Mark updated our 3 bathrooms by removing the original carpet flooring and replacing it with ceramic tile. All was done by phone since I live in another city. Mark was very accommodating, efficient, and professional. Pics look great and I now have a great addition to update by house.

I had Radick install glass tile backsplash in my new kitchen. He also replaced Pergo flooring which had been damaged from a water leak. I was told by two other contractors that the flooring had to be completely replaced. This would entail removing and replacing the floor not only in the kitchen but also in the adjoining family room since it was one continuous floor. When Radick looked at the floor, he said " I'm pretty sure I can replace only the damaged part." He did just that and did an excellent job. His work was absolutely beautiful, both the flooring and the backsplash tile job. I have already asked him for an estimate on another project. I feel that his pricing is very fair and he works diligently and quickly. He is definitely my go to contractor for any future work that I need.

Leroy helped us install tile and laminate flooring in our main floor and he also helped re-texture our ceilings that were originally popcorn ceilings. The quality of the work was outstanding and Leroy was able to get in and get the job done quickly and at a fair price. He was accessible and easy to talk to/work with. We would highly recommend Leroy - we are so happy with everything!

So John did a lot of work for us. His craftsmanship is very good. The only thing I wasn't happy with was the actual install of our windows, but his workers did that. One window was damaged going in and when I asked the worker about it, he was defensive and combative. After the windows were installed however, I only worked with John. He did all of the casing around the windows which turned out beautiful. He remodeled our master bath and half bath with marble tile and also did a beautiful job. His tile work is very good. He really pays attention to detail. He cut and installed our baseboard. He installed new plumbing, bathroom cabinets, mirrors, he installed outdoor lighting, he really did a ton of work. I was very happy with all of the work he did. Any problems that may have come up, he addressed immediately. I can't say enough nice things about John.

Jordan LaGrone, the owner of Cubit Construction worked for me as an AutoCad kitchen designer for over 7 years. During his period of employment he designed and sold literally hundreds of kitchen and bathroom jobs. Jordan always wanted to utilize his hands on ability and his craftsmanship is evident in the number of showroom displays he put together and installed in our showroom. Many of our customers have chosen Cubit Construction as the contractor for jobs we sell today. You should too! Go with Cubit Construction...you won't be disappointed. A few years back, when I needed to have some custom tile work done in a kitchen and bathroom in our home in Colorado Springs, I asked neighbors and friends if they could refer someone to me. Steve's name was mentioned by a trusted friend who had hired him for tile work and was very pleased with the crafted end result - Steve had also been referred to him by a friend. Besides doing excellent work - we couldn't of been happier with the beautiful outcome of the project - he was also very personable and professional. Also I've in turn have referred him to others and have heard nothing but "thank you's " and positive feedback of the finished work.

Chris bid on a job I posted to tile my kitchen back splash. I called him the evening he put the bid in, negotiated the price and scheduled with him to show up the next morning. He arrived 10 minutes early and got to work straightaway. It took him about 4 hours the first day, and he returned the second day (again, a few minutes early) to do the grouting, which took a couple hours more. The tile saw was set up in my front yard and he cleaned up any dust and residue from the cut tiles. After the grouting, there was of course some film on the tiles that needed to be wiped off after several hours, but Chris made me aware of it and let me know how to clean it. The rest of the work area was tidied up and cleaned. I was impressed by the efficiency of the work Chris did. I guess it helped that I had all the materials on site, and he worked with what I had. He is a professional and his work reflects that. The simple white ceramic tiles I chose, along with a glass tile accent strip would show any flaws or uneven spacing, but they look perfect. Chris was courteous and professional in his demeanor and I appreciate the excellent work he did. I will contact him again for any tile work I have.

Majestic Construction, Kevin and Johnny provides reliable, quality service. They completed tile repair in two bathrooms in both the shower body and behind the vanity. They also installed a new vanity in one bathroom. They provided an estimate promptly and completed the jobs within the agreed upon timeframe. The work was neat and professional and no debris was left behind. I would definitely use their services again and would recommend them to others.

John Henze completed 3 remodeling projects for me over the past 2 years: family room, home office and, most recently, the master bathroom. In each case the work was of excellent quality and I am extremely pleased with the results. The scope of work included demolition, drywall installation/repair, custom carpentry, installation of doorways, plumbing, construction of a custom shower and ceramic tile installation (floor and walls). As with all remodeling projects, unexpected developments occurred along the way which John handled in a creative and competent manner. Since John is capable of doing all of these things himself, there are no sub-contractors involved. I would recommend him without hesitation to family and friends and would absolutely hire him again for any future projects. He is a superb craftsman.

Dean was an absolute joy to work with; he listened to my concerns, and offered his experienced opinion which helped a lot! He was always on time, kept me apprised on timelines (was ahead of schedule) and was courteous. I trusted him (and I'm a single Mom) and believe he was very fair. He didn't have creepy sub-contractors to deal with; just him! I am very happy with my tile floors, fence, and backsplash - I get compliments all the time! You WON'T be disappointed, he can do so many things in an extremely professional manner!!

Bryan was the contractor for a full remodel of a 3/4 bathroom in our historic Denver home. This was a full demo down to the studs, installation of drywall and subway tile on walls/floor, new plumbing and electrical work, and installation of the new shower enclosure, toilet, lighting and bathroom vanity. He was very responsive and understanding throughout the entire project, including the many times our scope changed and when the old house presented new construction challenges. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
