Rodney and Casey were a pleasure to work with. They installed 250 feet of linear fence for me at a new residence I built. They did it in 3 days, were able to start when I needed them and worked diligently with me on staying in my budget while not compromising quality. They do the work themselves and quality is top priority for them. They use screws along the entire fence and use a wood preservative, which should prolong the fence life. They went above and beyond in every area - including leaving the garage cleaner than they found it! I would not hesitate to call Rodney again for any fencing work (or hardscaping, which is Casey's specialty!)

Wed Aug 16, 8:18 PM If you’re contemplating hiring a good General Contractor, Daniel Gonzalez and his construction teams are your guys! We hired Daniel to finish 1,300 square feet including an extra bedroom, laundry area, storage room and quilt studio in our basement. Daniel gave a fair quote and he brought top notch teams and hard working guys to the project! His electrician did an excellent job installing all new electrical; and his HVAC guy ran new heat ducts and installed a whole house humidifier. The plumber ran new plumbing for a utility sink and washing machine. The framer did a fabulous job independently building our design to our exact specifications and even added decorative arches. The drywall guys hauled in heavy drywall sheets one-by-one because it wouldn’t fit into our window wells. The drywall installers got 4 rooms put up in one and ½ days! The tapers and texture's did an excellent job taping drywall seams and adding texture in less than two days for each team. Daniel’s crews showed up on time, they were respectful, trustworthy, and we appreciated how hard they all worked to get the job done in a timely manner. Daniel and his trim and paint team did an excellent job painting, installing our flooring, trim, doors, hardware and window ledges. Best of all, Daniel is an honest guy and does what he agrees to do. Treat these guys right and they’ll treat you right! Great job! We love our new space! Thanks Daniel!

Joe was totally accessible, went out of his way to text us about times of arrival and not only did the exact job we needed but also solved a unique electrical issue that arose during the job in our 50 year old home. He was clean, meticulous in taking down a wall of old cabinetry, quick and reasonably priced. Can't say enough about how pleased we were with his work. Mike and Carol S.

We cannot recommend Maurice highly enough - the quick answer is to use him. The long answer, about why we are so grateful we contracted with him, is below. We reached out to Maurice to give us a quote to replace our shower pan. Maurice, of the several quotes we received, was the most expensive. He was also the most thorough, detailed, and forthcoming in his estimate of services (including immediately sharing he was licensed, bonded and insured; nobody else shared that information). Others we reached out to were quick or superficial with their estimates, and offered to keep costs small by providing services that would cover up the damage. Maurice, on the other hand, spent about 45 minutes with us, sharing what was likely causing our damage (which went beyond providing any repairs that could cover up or quickly repair our failing shower pan), and shared with us what both best and worst case scenarios would be. Maurice, once the work started, uncovered a large amount of black mold, water damage, and pending electrical nightmares. He quickly stopped the work, reached out to both my husband and I, and did not continue to mitigate any damage until we were able to see for ourselves what he had uncovered and ascertain what our next steps would be. Throughout the entire time he worked with us, he garnered approval for any deviation from the plan; this happened with big issues and small. Furthermore, Maurice was on site and involved in the work every step of the way. Although our job ended up being much more involved, detailed, and costly than we had anticipated (although, admittedly, we decided to do a complete bathroom remodel), I cannot tell you how grateful I am that it was. Maurice’s in-depth work and commitment to quality uncovered serious safety hazards, including black mold and electrical issues. If we went with a contractor that promised us a cheaper cover-up, we would have never known about the damage in our bathroom that could have caused us nightmares if they went unfixed.

The workmanship was excellent! Sonny was great to work with and helped us to make good decisions and got the paver colors that we wanted. We will use Sunny Daze again. The only negative was that some of our personal equipment was used such as hoses, brooms, a bucket, electricity without asking. Minor, but it would have been a good courtesy.

We hired Jim to do a very big partial basement finish in Johnstown, CO of almost 1,000 SF. It included a recording studio, exercise room, hallway, half bath, and large entertainment room. Jim and crew member Glen did all work except electrical which Jim subcontracted out. Jim took care of pulling the construction permit and inspections. The job was started in Nov 2014 and finished the first week in Feb 2015 even with the off-time I requested during Thanksgiving and two weeks around Christmas. These guys were always on-time, every day, and diligent in adhering to their own elevated work ethic. It's something very refreshing to see. I've too often experienced the polar opposite when dealing with construction guys. Jim sticks to his words and promises. I never had to worry that he wouldn't. I never thought this fairly big project would actually have an element of fun to it, but Jim and Glen have the attitude that often made it that way. I think Jim's work speaks for itself. He takes care to do things right, and is skilled in virtually all aspects of home construction. There is no doubt I will be asking Jim back for future projects as they come up. Trust is a mighty thing, and I have plenty of it in Jim.

Marco stepped in and rescued our whole house remodel (in Longmont, CO) after our original contractor underbid and overcharged us, did a shotty job, never met a deadline, and then bailed on us. Marco showed up when he said he would, worked diligently, did a great job, and charged us reasonable prices. All this and with a smile to boot. Jobs he tackled for us included: lots of tiling, fireplace refacing, drywall patching, trim install, painting, door hanging, lite electrical, and siding & soffit replacement. Marco is trustworthy, has a strong work ethic, and has the experience to tackle nearly any job. He is a homeowner's dream come true.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

        • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
        • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
        • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
        • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
        • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
        • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

        • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
        • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
        • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
        • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
        • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
        • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
        • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
        • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
