I'm basically a you tube warrior and I had earlier in the day attempted to repair the AC myself by replacing the Run capacitor. David was very gracious and pointed out what I did right and what I did incorrectly. Ultimately he was able to get my family back in the cool air for which we all thankful.

We hired Daniel and his crew for a Kitchen remodel in a Wash Park Bungalow. We could not have been more pleased! He was very responsive during the bid process and answered all of our questions quickly and thoroughly. His crew show up on time when they were scheduled to work and they kept the rest of the house clean while the kitchen was being worked on. The finished product turned out fantastic... exceeded our expectations. We are so thrilled with our beautiful kitchen and will absolutely hire Daniel again.

I would highly recommend AAG Appliance Repair! Adam came out to our house to repair our refrigerator and he came out within 24 hours and fixed our issue right away. He doesn't try to upsell and offered us very sound advice; we felt he was very fair and competitive with what he charged us. We definitely appreciate that when so many others try to sell you things you don't need. Adam is extremely professional and we will always use his services for any appliance repair we have in the future. Thanks again!

Working with Greg was great! He responded to my request in a timely matter as well as scheduled a time to review the job. He ended up knocking out my original request and taking care of a few other plumbing issues I had. I appreciated that he took the time to explain the options and that he listened to my concerns.

I was very pleased with the work done by Greg of Nightowl Appliance. He was the technician who worked on my Whirlpool ED22RF refrigerator. My overall rating is a "5 .0." Greg called me just prior to his arrival at my home to let me know he was 6 minutes away from my house. He diagnosed and isolated the problem with a 100% certainty for the needed thermostat switch component by temporarily bypassing the switch to prove it was the problem. The service was punctual and responsive. The repair was completed within a few hours on the same day, which also includes the time to pick-up the required part. I found the repair cost to be quite reasonable for the work that was done and would recommend Nightowl to all my friends and family.

Though I have already written a response about the service, I will only add that we were very pleased with Patrick and his work. He was very polite and thorough in his explanation of the problem. He gave us directions on how to follow through with the repair process and it worked. We are happy. It was a fair price and excellent service. Thank you!

Our LG range (less than 2 years old) died on us. After describing our problem, Brian gave us a "likely" cause in his quote. He ended up being right. I think he could tell I was very flustered because he made every effort to come fix it ASAP! He was friendly and fast. Hopefully I won't need to but I'll call him the next time an appliance is on the fritz!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who fixes refrigerators?

Typically, appliance repair technicians who offer refrigeration repair also work with washers, dryers, dishwashers and other household appliances. While there is no formal training required to be an appliance repair technician, consider certification requirements, as the technician should know how to safely work with refrigerants (the chemical that keeps your fridge cold) and substitute refrigerants such as HFCs. You should also read reviews to get a sense of the pro’s experience and reputation. The appliance repair pro will come to your home, bringing all the necessary tools for diagnosis. They may need to order parts to complete the job, but all the work will take place in your home. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
