Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I find a junk removal service in Denver?

You can find a reputable junk removal service in Denver by performing an online search. Start by reading the pros’ profiles and ratings. Compare the customer reviews to gauge the professionals’ quality of work. Reviews that include photos are especially useful. Your final step is to contact all of the junk removal companies, ask for free estimates and compare the prices you receive.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a junk removal service during the COVID-19 pandemic?

You can set up consultations and appointments with a junk removal service near you during the COVID-19 pandemic by messaging the professional of your choice in an online search. Ask if they are willing to set up a video call to assess the project and answer any questions you have. Discuss a strategy for staying safe during the job, including sticking to guidelines on social distancing as well as paying through digital platforms instead of cash or check.

How can I find out if a junk removal service is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

Junk removal may be considered essential in certain cases during the COVID-19 pandemic. A good place to start is by searching your city or state government’s website for a list of guidelines.

For national guidelines, visit CISA’s Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19 webpage, which identifies 16 types of essential infrastructure sectors that can continue operating during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, not all jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

How much does it cost to haul off junk?

The average cost to haul away junk is $150, though this price can be expected to vary between around $75 and $375, depending on several factors.

The first factor is the quantity of junk removed. Most junk removal services charge by the truckload, and most residential projects only require filling up part of a truckload.

Another factor is the type of junk. E-waste like computers and TVs may cost more to dispose of, as will more hazardous materials like mercury, paint and used motor oil. It also may cost more to remove big items like beds and couches.

Can I use digital payments to pay for junk removal services?

Today, digital payment platforms are gaining popularity across many services, including junk removal companies. Digital payment services such as PayPal, Square Cash, Venmo, Zelle and Google Pay are common options for customers.

Conduct an online search for junk removal services in your area, and ask whether they accept digital payments. Make sure you have a plan in place to take all necessary precautions to comply with any mandated social distancing guidelines.

Does a junk removal service need to enter my home?

A junk remover may not need to enter your home if all of the materials are located outside. If a junk remover needs access to your home and the project is deemed essential, you’ll need to discuss a strategy for safety. For example, avoid being near each other, sanitize involved surfaces and conduct payments using digital platforms. Discuss potential strategies with junk removal companies in your area.

Do junk removers offer remote or virtual services?

Because junk removal requires manual labor, it is not typically a remote service. However, if you see a profile that states the junk removal company is offering remote services, ask the company what those services include. And schedule a phone or video consultation with local junk removers, and ask what precautions can be taken to comply with social distancing guidelines.

Is free furniture pick-up available in the Denver area?

Some thrift shops and donation centers will pick up your furniture for free in Denver. Many people choose to take advantage of furniture donation to either reap the tax rewards or simply to pay it forward.

When you donate furniture, you help provide the donation center or thrift shop with an item they may need. Therefore, several in the Dallas area choose to offer free furniture pickup and free mattress pickup.

But if you can't find a free service, consider hiring one of the best junk removal companies in Denver. Ask several companies to send you free estimates so you can choose a service that will pick up your unwanted furniture for a low cost.

How can I get rid of junk fast?

To get rid of your junk fast, start by organizing and making a list of what you have. Sell what you can, and give away items that you value but you don’t want to friends and family.

If you don’t have the means to transport items or if you have too much junk to get rid of on your own, it’s time to hire a pro. A junk removal service can quickly and efficiently get rid of junk for you, including lifting heavy objects and making sure nothing is damaged.

My mom hired him to come and remove all items junk trash debris couch, sectional etc - a 2-3 truckload per my work order for $300 - he came with a pick up truck - left sectional, TV and TV stand in the house - half size of bags in the garage and was 2 hours late - photo attached - and still demanded $300 - this is not the way to do business - he didn’t remove all items - contacting BBB once I give my mom this money to pay him. Very angry he took advantage of my mom like this - UPDATE: -My daughter paid him $160 as that is the job he did. He showed up with a pickup truck when he was to get a trailer (his words) - Took only a couch, full mattress and box spring glass coffee and end table, among some items on the right side of the garage. He didn't touch the left side nor the sectional, TV or TV stand that was in the house. Then he sends text messages being unprofessional and references "blacks" -.I'm a business professional in real estate and was looking to hire an honest company. This man clearly came to take advantage of the job by only removing half the items and still expected to get paid $300 when the job was not completed. No, I'm sorry that is not how business is done. He threatened to drop the stuff back off at my house and I said ok drop the money off too. Now I have to hire another company to come to the house at 10 am tomorrow to do the last minute haul to remove the remaining items pictured below that he left. What should have been an honest $300 job has turned out to be a $550 job. - It was getting to upsetting and threatening - I had to block his number from my phone. He did a bad job tried to scam me and mad because he was not paid for a full job when he did a half job. Never said he was coming back etc.. I have all his information and will report to BBB and report to anyone who listens as now this is becoming harassment and he never completed a job AND I have to hire someone else. No this is not right.
