Karen came out to my house the day before I left and took lots of notes, so that she could take care of my 3 cats and 2 rabbits. My regular sitter had a health issue at the last minute and Karen responded to my thumbtack request in about 2 minutes. After I got home and Karen came by to drop off the key, my 2 friendly cats came right up to her for attention. I would recommend Karen to everyone.

Jesse was very experienced and explained everything well. There were no issues at all that weren’t address by Jesse and his competent assistant. There were no touch-ups that we’re not discussed and he left the place clean with no paint drops or trash on the floor. His rates were very reasonable. They are coming back to do anyother part of the house. They were very friendly and considerate and polite compared to other painters were have had in the past.

Hi...my name is gigi Mitchell...I discovered Vipet Sitter Ser 13 or 14 years ago.I needed a dog walker for my 2 little Bichon's," Scotch and Soda"....Cindy, the owner, came to my house for our first meeting. I was very taken with her kind professional business tactics, animal knowledge,...compation..., and all the services she had to offer. You can be sure I wouldn't let 'just anybody' be responsible for my 2 little buddies !!! And she doesn't cost an arm and a leg....She has very well earned her "best pet sitter service' all these years....She's one in a million ! gigi Mitchell.

Tina was a breath of fresh air upon meeting her and knew I could trust her with my cat. She treated her like it was her own pet and she truly has a love for animals. Animals can sense someones personality and my cat absolutely loved Tina and would just go limp when she would pick her up like a baby and my cat would be so happy she would drool!! I would recommend Tina for any pet sitting needs and you will not be disappointed!

Holly did an amazing job taking care of our kitty. Each day she sent pictures and updates on how she was doing, and made us feel comfortable knowing our baby was well taken care of while we were away. She was very professional and thorough during the initial visit as well, which made us comfortable from the start. We will definitely use her again next time we're out of town!

Dana revamped the landscaping/plants around my house. I recently moved in and had no idea how to care for the plants. She knows a lot about anything related to gardens/landscaping/plants. Everything looked great when she was done. I would hire her again!

Aislyn does a great job at pet sitting! You can tell she has a big passion for animals. She made me and my husband feel extra comfortable by sending us updates along with pics to our phone. I knew our dog, Reggie, was in good hands with Aislyn the moment I met her. She's professional, kind, and comes with plenty of experience in the pet care industry. We came home to a clean house and a much-loved dog. We will definitely be using her services for our next getaway!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

How do I find a reliable house sitter?

House sitting can help keep your home safe and well cared for so you can be worry-free while you’re away for work or play. There are several steps you can take to make sure you hire a trustworthy house sitter and do your part to be a responsible host. One of the best ways to ensure a safe home is to hire a professional house sitter. Here are some key points to look for when hiring a house sitter:

  • Reviews and referrals: When searching for a house sitter, always read reviews. Previous experiences will indicate how the house sitter will care for your home while you’re away.
  • Contract: Sign a clearly written contract outlining services to be provided (e.g., mail in each day by 5 p.m.), the daily rate you are paying, and how long the services will be provided. You can also include any agreed-upon house rules in the written contract.
  • Your part: Leave important phone numbers (vet, emergency contact, etc.) and information on where to find emergency items like the circuit breaker and the fire extinguisher, and have a credit card on file with the veterinarian in case of emergencies if the house sitter is watching your pets.
