My son was hesitant to start his guitar lessons, and if he didn’t like it, it would be a major ordeal to get him in the car to go. I work like everyone and have zero time left. The fact that Tess comes to the house to teach - while I prepare dinner - is freaking awesome. What a time saver. And shes made it a great experience by offering tons of encouragement and lots of laughter wrapped up in a neat 30 min session. Highly recommend.

Melody, from Lessons in Your Home, placed Arielle as a vocal teacher for our 8 year old. We have been very happy with the instruction and professionalism. We can see an improvement in our daughter's singing skills and a desire to perform and practice. It is very nice not to have to run out somewhere for lessons...Keyboard, books, etc, are brought to us.

Teresa was my daughter's piano teacher here in Chicago from kindergarten to 8th grade. From time to time, aside from piano lessons she helped my daughter with her clarinet for her school band. Teresa was an excellent teacher & a wonderful person. She inspired my kids with her works. I highly recommend her for everyone that needs a music lesson.

I loved having Dani as a cello teacher for my daughter. Dani is very flexible and came to my house which was amazing. She was always understanding when we had to cancel or move lessons around. She is so good with kids and makes learning a hard instrument fun! I wish she hadn't moved or we would still be using her!

I have taken guitar lessons from Zach off and on for years. He is awesome! Never focuses on reading out of mind numbing books, but instead focuses on what it really is to play the guitar! I would recommend him any-day of the week. Bonus! He plays and teaches everything... Bass, piano, guitar, cello... you name it!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How hard is it to learn to play the cello?

Taking cello lessons can be a rewarding experience for students young and old. The rich sound of the cello is well-loved in classical music and is found in all genres of contemporary music from modern folk to rock. As with any instrument, how hard it is to learn to play cello depends on the practice and dedication you put into it. It’s true that some people are naturally more adept at learning instruments than others, but with lessons and a daily commitment, you too can learn to play the cello.

Cello lessons can be a smart investment, especially for new players. Even professional cellists benefit greatly from ongoing training, but for those new to cello it’s especially important for forming a strong foundation for playing. From the proper posture to understanding finger positions, regular cello lessons give you a benchmark to measure your daily practice against. With a professional cello teacher guiding you, the sky’s the limit.

      How much are cello lessons?

Cello lessons are a great way to anchor and guide your cello practice, regardless of your skill level. From top symphony performers to first-time music students in elementary school, cello lessons correct your flaws and help your strengths shine. The cost of cello lessons will vary, depending on the reputation and experience of your teacher, the length and frequency of your lessons, and where you live. Students who have regularly scheduled lessons and pay in advance often pay less per lesson than drop-in students who schedule lessons as needed. Here are some examples of average cello lesson costs:

      • 30-minute cello lesson: $30, when a minimum of 4 lessons per month are pre-paid.
        • Cost for drop-in lesson: $35.
