We had not had our gutters cleaned in 10 years, so this was quite a job. Not only did Francisco come the same day I called, he cleaned all gutters, took pictures of small issues on our roof and upper window frames, and exterminated a wasps nest that we were unaware of. If needed, he would have repaired gutters; but for our house this was unnecessary. Francisco also cleaned up any debris before he completed the job. We will use Francisco again in the future, for gutter clean-out, or any other type of roofing/window repair.

They were on time and patient. I hired them to install insulation in my garage and ordered the wrong insulation. They followed me to the hardware store to get the right stuff as well as loaded it in their car. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

Mark worked for me for 4 days, painted unfinished garage, bedroom accent wall, installed 3 ceiling fans with remotes, keypad lock, garage door insulation installation. He does a great job and is prompt. When I called him back for questions about something, his attitude was good. I would use him again.

I had some windows with broken springs. Uprising repaired them at a good price and made sure they were operating properly before they received payment. I would highly recommend them if you need window repair work done.

Daniel and his team helped my wife and I transform a house built in 1906 into a modern masterpiece. They did an UNBELIEVABLE job at a very reasonable price. At first, I was a little hesitant to use them as one reviewer perviously gave them a wretched review, but I couldnt be happier with the end-results. They completely remodeled the basement, added 2 bathrooms, re-did another bathroom, dry walled multiple rooms, built an amazing egress window well, installed a water heater, sewer ejector pump, kitchenette, and laid tile/ flooring throughout the house. Separately, on a personal level Daniel and his crew are some of the nicest individuals you'll ever meet. IF YOU ARE EVER ON THE FENCE ABOUT USING DANIEL AND HIS CREW DONT BE....FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME AT ANY TIME AND ID BE HAPPY TO SHOW OFF HIS WORK. This certainly wont be the last time we use him. We hired Gil to do a variety of handyman services (flooring repair, shower door and appliance installation, updating fixtures, blinds installation, etc.) and he did a great job with everything that we were looking for. He also was very accommodating and flexible with his time which made it easier on us to schedule during our time off. We will definitely reach out to Gil in the future if/when we have additional projects to complete.

We recently suffered water damage from a leaky refrigerator and the June storms and needed a contractor to repair the damage to our basement. I had a difficult time finding someone to complete the work...until I found Anaid Enterprises! LeRoy contacted me immediately to schedule an estimate. He showed up promptly for the estimate and had a detailed estimate to me in less than 24 hours. After a previous bad contractor experience I was a little nervous about hiring someone else. LeRoy laid all my fears to rest. He took care of my house as though it was his own. He provided me step by step updates and communicated with me the whole time. I appreciated the attention to detail and his commitment to the job. He was fully present from beginning to end. I am so happy to have such a genuine, detail-oriented, honest, competent, professional contractor in our community. I recommend Anaid Enterprises to anyone looking to have quality work done on your home.

Larry and his crew were very attentive to preparation, spending significant time in repair, even assisting in replacing some rotting boards. Once fully prepped, they sprayed a first coat, then second in an additional direction to assure full coverage, They then spent the remainder of the day, into the evening, making sure the trim did not have any issues. At first, I was curious if they would catch the little errors, but not to worry, Larry went behind and corrected everything, even seeing things I did not catch. I cannot be more pleased with their professional, honest, and skillful attention to every detail. We've received many positive comments and several individuals wanting contact information to receive a proposal.

I had a hole in the living room ceiling; water damage from a winter storm. Trent assessed the damage, recommended a repair and quickly resolved the situation. Trent is the best at cleaning up after completing the work. I had to do nothing after he left. I will definitely use Trent for other handyman jobs in the future.

Eric and Clint were super responsive and came to measure my window for replacement the day after I called. We are now waiting for arrival of the window and installation so after installation, I will write more about the entire experience but for now I am pleased with their responsiveness and attention to detail as they measured several times to ensure correct size.

Andujo showed up on time and had a very fair quote. The project was actually less complicated (and therefor cheaper) than I anticipated. I hired him on the spot and he completed the fence repair immediately. I would hire him again for a fence repair.

Josh went above and beyond and did an amazing job! The company we were working with decided to stop contacting us and Josh swooped right in to our rescue and within a very timely manner. Was able to replace all 12 glass pieces in our home that fit with our timeline to put our house on the market! I would definitely recommend him and would use him again in the future.

We have had the windows in our home replaced over the past 3 years by Conservation Construction, and have been very pleased with the results. CC was great to work with during this process, from the time we first met with their sales rep until the last new windows were installed. We appreciated their willingness to spread the window replacement timetable over three summers, while they held the purchase price the same until all the windows were installed. We were especially satisfied with the quality of work done by their installer, Tony. We were fortunate to have him doing the window installation each of the three summers. He was truly a professional in all phases. The windows have performed as promised and definitely have proven to be energy efficient throughout all seasons. We enjoyed doing business with CC and are totally satisfied with the outcome.

We had the pleasure of working with Siding Repairs LLC. Prior to the actual work, Sean & Jim, the individuals that performed the estimate of repairs, were extremely professional and informative about the process. We felt the quote was fair for the amount of work and time needed to complete the repairs. On repair day the team worked diligently but fast as our work was completed in one day. We were very impressed with the quality and the attention to detail from the crew. They also left the job site clean and free of debris. Although they were not the least expensive, we would not hesitate to use them again and strongly refer them to others.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
