My experience with John was fantastic. He video-graphed my friends wedding and we could not be happier. He communicated with me throughout the whole process and when I thought that we were not going to be able to afford it due to some financial situations that came up he gave us the opportunity to give him what we had at the time as long as we were able to pay the rest by the day of the wedding which I thought was a nice gesture. The video was great and he took the time to edit and add their song to the video.I would definitely recommend him again and have already begun as one of my friends is getting married next year. The video was great, the price was affordable compared to other companies and throughout the whole process he made sure that we knew what was going on and really went above and beyond to ensure that we were getting what we wanted. He even added purple labels to the dvds which was the color that she used throughout the wedding. It is little touches like that that really make a difference.

We hired Corey to film our wedding day. He was very professional on the phone and answered all of our questions. The booking process was painless and much easier than it was with my sisters wedding a few years ago. The video was absolutely amazing. It was like watching a movie. This guy has so much gear, and so many cameras yet I hardly noticed him in the room. The videos we received were 4k and 1080p hd. I would highly recommend Corey and Faymus Media for your wedding videography! Thanks so much! - Richard

Rob was great to work with on coordinating the videography of an event out of state, and on short notice too. He was quick to respond via email and happy to navigate a large conference at the Javits Center in order to film one speech for our law firm. Really appreciated his good work!

We hired Bob for our wedding video, and wanted a combination of styles. I couldn't be more pleased. The one thing that stands out the most about Bob the most is his attention to detail and he is extremely efficient. Bob is also very hard working, and unlike some of our vendors who took a few breaks/took time to sit around a little - Bob was the one who was ON it. He was there to work and do the job, but is also very kind and flexible. Bob is very reliable - he showed up early to start, and through the day he was at the proper locations and showed early to all of them. I am extremely happy with Bob's work and would not hesitate to hire again.

JUNE 30, 2015 was our wedding day, not only that but it was the celebration of our 8 year anniversary with our closest friends and family. Raul captured so many beautiful pictures and I can feel the feeling I had at that exact moment when I look at them. He captured not only pictures of us but our family/friends drinking and laughing. We enjoyed working with him and he's so easy going. We can't wait to see all of the photos!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH RAUL.

Melissa and Steve are amazing! We originally weren't even sure if we wanted to hire a videographer, but I couldn't be happier with our decision to hire XO Creative. They were easy and awesome to work with; super friendly and professional. We also appreciated the fact that they took the time to get to know us and hear our story which I think really reflected in our wedding video. It turned out better than we could have ever imagined and we absolutely love it. I highly, highly recommend XO Creative!!

Best decision ever was to hire Rich! He was amazing!!! Rich was our videographer for our 7/16/16 wedding at the Bates House in the Frank Melville Memorial Park in Setauket. He was enthusiastic and super professional. Rich showed up early to the hotel where we were getting ready and got some great footage! He also got shots of the groom and groomsmen goofing around and waiting to be picked up to go to the venue. He worked closely with my photographer to make a special and touching first look with my husband. He was with us every step of the way for the most amazing day of my life. Rich pays extra attention to detail and makes sure your video is beyond what you can imagine. His turn around time to edit and deliver the video was very very fast. The quality of the video from the highlight video to clips from every aspect of our day was top notch. He keeps in constant contact with you and has excellent communication. You will never be left wondering what is going on with your video. I highly recommend Rich for any type of video needs you have, especially a wedding!!!

We hired Hearts of Film to do our engagement and wedding photos. Not only were the images amazing, but they were very fun to work with. Our engagement shoot was the first time we were in front of the camera, and Matt made us feel relaxed the entire time and helped us enjoy it. The same on our wedding day when we were nervous, he would always keep the mood light and playful.

Franciska is an excellent communicator and professional videographer. She makes sure every little details before, during and after the filming. Those details make the filming process very smoothly. She also follows the direction and standards for our project and the final videos look very great. After the filming, she immediately uploaded the videos and gave quick update of the filming. She is also very flexible for the time and payment. I highly recommend her if you want to have a pleasant experience for your video project!

Solo's work is on a completely different level compared to most wedding videographers out there. I'm an amateur videographer, so when I started to look for videographers - I had to find someone who could do a better job than I could ever do myself. Video is a number one priority for me, so when I saw Solo's videos - I knew I could trust him 100% and that I didn't have to do anything but to book him for our wedding. Solo is a true professional - I still can't believe the level of the quality of work he's done for us considering how hectic our wedding was. He made the most out of what he could work with and created a masterpiece that truly reflects our personalities and the atmosphere of the wedding. It was an honor to have him film our wedding, because he didn't just make a video, he created a work of art that my wife and I are honored to be featured in and will cherish forever.

Sunday Morning Films is not your ordinary wedding videographer. And that is a GREAT thing. We've all been at someone's house, and after dinner, the host or hostess will announce--"Hey, would everyone like to watch our wedding video?!" Oh, great...sitting through wedding videos can be one of the most painful things you can do--not that anyone would ever say so, of course. What Sunday Morning Films does is work closely with their clients to create a wonderful video highlighting their personalities on this most personal of days. They are engaged but not annoying; they make you feel like movie stars without taking away from the moment. They are SOOO easy to work with. Then they pull together the essence of your wedding day into one killer video, with class, style and energy. I remember being so surprised by the final product, because watching the video took me back to my wedding day so clearly--BOOM! I was there again. And I wanted to immediately show everyone I knew the video--those who were there and especially those who were not. I would have absolutely no guilt in asking that magic question--"Hey, who wants to watch our wedding video?" Then, instead of watching my guests yawn through another boring, old wedding video, I'll get to watch their faces light up. I highly, highly recommend Sunday Morning Films for your wedding video needs. --Matt Payne (The Groom)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
