I had a wonderful experience with Continuo Music. Barbara was communicative and helped me pick the perfect music for my wedding ceremony. The musicians were excellent and were on time! My guests were extremely impressed with the music and we couldn't have been happier.
I was a bit apprehensive about signing my 4 year old daughter up for vocal lessons because of her age. I went to a few people to see what they could offer and to hear my daughters voice. I was not impressed. Then I called Billy and he invited me over with my daughter to meet him. It was a fabulous first impression which was 8 months ago! My daughter Myrissa, now 5, has blossomed in both her appreciation for song as well as her voice! My husband and I are truly impressed and very appreciative of just how heat Billy is with our daughter. We highly recommended New Haven Academy of Performing Arts!! We would also advise to start as young as they are interested because she has truly become a beautiful little singer and we can't wait for what's to come!
Kendra is a fabulous teacher. Both my children went to her one of which she taught the alto sax from Day 1. She cares about the children as students and personally. Taking an interest in who they are to make a well rounded experience for the children. She is the best.
In my experience of having lessons with Dan, I have unlocked a freedom in my improvising, composing and general approach to music. With his encouragement and wide ranging knowledge, he has opened my eyes, ears and mind to many different approaches, concepts and new music (to me) from all around the world. And this is all carried out with his kindness, generosity and genuinely caring manner.
My students learn about performing all styles of music as well as developing the ear and learning musicality. Most score highly in NYSMA competitions.
Mr. Blackwell is an awesome teacher, and very gifted. My daughter looks forward to her weekly lessons. In a short few months of lessons you can hear the difference (control) in her voice. You will not be disappointed in the services of Blackwell's School of Music and Film.
I am a certified New York State music teacher with twenty-nine years of experience. I hold a Bachelors degree in Music Education from the Indiana University School of Music as well as a Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas. Warm and engaging are words people use to describe my teaching style. I teach piano, clarinet and saxophone using motivational techniques which help to develop strong playing skills, musicianship, sight-reading skills, as well as knowledge of music theory and improvisation. Lessons are never dull but fun and exciting, taught with humor and personality, leading to joy and fulfillment through musical expression. I am very eclectic and open to all styles of music; not afraid to motivate and engage students through music that interests them. The use of colorful graphic images, as well as audio and video recordings of professional musicians help lead to understanding of the many musical concepts students must learn on their way to learning to play a musical instrument at a high level. Instruction also supports preparation for the NYSSMA Solo Festival where needed.
As a music teacher, I bring skills to children and adults that are difficult to find outside of the fine arts. With music, we work on brain duality (using both sides of the brain at once), practice technique (working over and over on a topic), self-discipline and more.
As a performer, I play and represent a number of music groups that perform covers and original music. Jazz, pop, funk, rock, classical, reggae and Latin are all covered. We provide a wide array of musical groups as well as individuals available for professional recordings. This includes a five-piece horn section made up of top NYC players. As an educator, I offer beginning lessons for guitar, piano, percussion, clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet, and trombone. I also teach technology aimed at recording and live sound production. Arranging and theory lessons are also available. I have a performance degree from The New School Jazz Program (1993) and a master's in music education from Teacher's College at Columbia University (2005). I have successfully run the elementary band program for the Public Schools of Tarrytowns, NY, for the past 13 years.
I offer beginner to intermediate level voice lessons and beginner piano and music theory lessons. I have over 10 years of classical vocal training and intermediate level piano and music theory training. While I specialize in voice and piano, I am familiar with several other instruments including oboe, alto saxophone, English horn and guitar.
