We hired George very last minute and are so glad that we did. He did a fantastic job cleaning our carpet (a white carpet that had black pet fur everywhere) and did so when we were not even able to be present at our home. He was professional and courteous, calling us to let us know when he would be there and when he was finished. I definitely recommend George for any carpet cleaning job. He's the best. Thanks again George!

I've used a bunch of carpet cleaners before. AMSD is the best carpet cleaner I've used by far, their rates are very competitive and the tech was very helpful. Will definitely use again and recommend!

Green choice carpet cleaners did an amazing job on my white couch. The couch looks brand new after a deep conditioning and steam cleaning. They also did it in less than an hour and showed up right on time. Overall very happy with their work, and will definitely use it again.

Rex and Son painted our apartment, 3 rooms, plus ceilings and closets. They did a great job! They came right away to give me an estimate, and started work in two days! They were friendly, reliable, and honest. They even offerred to do some extra work at no extracharge - rug cleaning, and minor maintenance work. Fast and reliable.

Phil has the right equipment, the knowledge, and the brawn to do the job the right way. I tried the "do it yourself" carpet cleaners which had little effect compared to the machinery and solvents Phil has. Money well spent for me with a surprisingly good outcome.

Chem-Dry of Clifton is excellent! I hired them about a month ago. I had a party and my sofa and loveseat got very soiled from the kids! Lol. Well they came out and made my sofa and loveseat look like brand new!! I am going to have them back in the spring to clean all my carpets! Danny and his crew could not have been nicer! If you are going to hire a company to clean your carpet or upholstery, Chem Dry of Clifton is the one to hire!

We have been using Mike Workman as our sole home carpet cleaner for the past 12 years and love his quality. We have come to depend on his knowledge and expertise that even got Tumeric stain out of our carpet! What a delight when he added tile grout cleaning. We had a carpet in our kitchen. It looked pretty as long as no one moved it. There was an outline of color difference where the carpet had been. But now… the entire floor sparkles the same and you can not tell where the carpets had been on the tiles before. You will be delighted with Mike’s quality and professionalism. Tell your friends! Oxi Fresh was on time and got right to work. My Carpets never looked so good. Did not have to worry about the drying time from other cleaners I used in the passed.

I know a lot of Chem-Dry Carpet Cleaning Franchises and work with them a lot. Out of all of the ones I have worked with I have not seen a more dedicated, nice, and professional man then Johnson Chem-Dry. He will go the extra mile to make sure you are always satisfied and will always provide the best. Out of all the carpet cleaning NJ has to offer I would put all my trust in this franchise. You will not regret the choice to choose this Franchise!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

    Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How do you find a good carpet cleaning company?

Regular professional carpet cleaning can both extend the life of your carpet and remove harmful pollutants from your home. Finding a good carpet cleaning company is an important aspect of home maintenance. When choosing a carpet cleaner, consider these top three questions:

    • What method of carpet cleaning do you prefer? Steam cleaning is an increasingly popular method because it’s thorough and safe, and dries quickly enough for you to return to your home the same day the carpets are cleaned.
    • Have you checked the company’s references? Most cities are home to several carpet cleaning companies, so it’s a good idea to check their reviews and references. Look for references from people in your neighborhood with homes similar to yours.
    • What’s included in the base price? What other services does the carpet cleaning company offer? Some companies will move furniture for you, while others charge a fee for it. Some include stairs in the cost of the home’s cleaning, while others charge per step.

    What does carpet cleaning cost?

National average carpet cleaning prices range between $100 and $130. Carpet cleaning prices depend on how many square feet of carpet you want cleaned, how many rooms in one house or building will be cleaned, how stained your carpet is, how much the carpet cleaning company charges, your ZIP code, and the type of carpet you have. Cost per square foot can range from 20 cents to $1 or more, based on the above variables. Synthetic carpets are typically the least expensive to clean; natural fibers like wool cost more, as they require more care and attention, as well as more drying time. Excessive stains, challenging locations such as stairs, and accessibility also factor into your carpet cleaning price. Companies may charge a minimum service fee for cleaning a small carpet to cover their business expenses (paying employees, transporting the special equipment to your home). If your pet has repeatedly saturated the carpet with urine or if the fibers are extremely matted down, it may make more sense to completely replace your carpet than to continue to have it cleaned.
