Winstead did my wedding hair and make up. We did a trial run of both first abs he took pictures so that I could see exactky how it looked and make suggestions or adjustments. I was unclear about exactly what I wanted and once we tried it I didn't like it at first (so grateful I scheduled a practice try!) Winstead was patient and calm and worked with me until I was 100% satisfied. On the day of our wedding it was chaotic and crazy as you might expect. Winstead was calm and steady and that helped me feel calm and steady. He was very understanding when my 2 year old daughter wanted to sit on my lap for the duration on my time with him. This didn't interrupt his process at all. In the end both my hair and make up were gorgeous and I received tons of compliments.

Party Favor Photo was so much fun to have at our wedding reception! They were punctual and set everything up with no issues at all. They were completely professional and very easy to communicate with in the days leading up to our wedding, and they had all of our digital photos available for viewing the day after the event, which was faster than I expected! Our guests loved having both the photobooth prints and the digital versions available for viewing, and the pictures turned out really well. One thing I appreciated beyond words is that the photobooth attendant flagged my husband and I down at the end of the night, right after our send-off, and told us that we should do a quick shoot in the photobooth since we hadn't had a chance to do so over the course of the very busy and hectic night. That was so sweet and thoughtful, and we both appreciated her thinking of that for us. I had no complaints and wouldn't hesitate to use them again, or recommend them!

What can I say...He was the consummate professional. From the time of selection he was interested in the type of shots we wanted and requested to see inspiration photos. On the day of our wedding he showed up on time and it felt as if he had investigated our wedding location to ensure our photos moved seamlessly from pre wedding, wedding candids, and post wedding. My family and guests felt like he was a member of the family. He was patient and took photos that not only fit our personality but exceeded our expectations (per the inspiration photos provided before the wedding). He delivered the finished photos on time and from first look until now all I see is how awesome they are and how we (the entire wedding party) party thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We definitely plan to sit with him again for portraits. I think we have found the our photographer of choice for all upcoming occasions. We recommend have been recommending him as our photographer of choice (especially to all who have seen our wedding photos.) Thanks again for everything!!! Respectfully, The Minors (May 24, 2018) 😀

We hired Gabe to do photography for our wedding and reception, and we could not have asked for a better experience. He was by far the most cost effective quote that we had gotten, and he was a thorough professional throughout the experience. He understood exactly what we needed from the pictures and followed through and delivered exactly what we needed. He was great with our guests, and they really enjoyed interacting with him (may of them have indicated that they will be reaching out to him for future engagements). He made them feel comfortable, without making them feel awkward, and even got a lot of our guests who are somewhat camera shy to feel at ease. You can tell he enjoys what he is doing and interacting with people to make them smile. The photos themselves turned out great. Overall I would highly recommend Gabe to anyone who is looking for a great photographer who not only delivers great pictures but is fun to be around.

I am so happy that we found Ilya to do the videography for our wedding ceremony. He was responsive and professional from the beginning and willing to work within the restrictions set forth by our church. We received the edited video within a mere days of our wedding so we were able to enjoy and relive during our honeymoon! Ilya was wonderful to work with and I will definitely contact again for any future projects.

Ronnie was absolutely phenomenal. He was professional and unobtrusive during the wedding ceremony and reception. The video highlight reel came out PERFECT--my new husband cries every time he sees the video. I cannot say enough good things about the professionalism of pretty elektrik company. The services they provide are amazing and the cost was very reasonable. Ronnie took on the videography of my wedding last minute when my initial vendor fell through just days before the wedding. I am SO happy that the other vendor bailed, as working with Ronnie was exactly what we were looking/hoping for.

Elmo is exceptional at capturing unique, special and genuine candid moments. He patiently worked with us on our outdoor wedding day on an extremely chilly and windy day. We needed pictures taken in a few settings that involved tricky lighting, included two kids and some were taken in our apartment which is very small. All of our wedding pictures turned out so incredible and are exactly as we would have liked--not super staged and stiff but instead reflected our personalities and the love we share for one another. Elmo went way above and beyond what we even imagined and we are so thrilled with our wedding photos. Elmo also has such a calm demeanor and I would imagine for bigger groups, he would be so skilled at getting people to work together to get the perfect pictures.

My husband and I hired Eric to capture our August 2017 wedding. We were disappointed by our original Videographer so we literally hired Eric a few days before our traditional marriage. Eric was professional, calm and did a great job. We hired him for both our traditional marriage and white wedding. He was always around and available to us during both occasions; he took many pictures in addition to the video footage. He was flexible with edits to our highlight video and sent everything to us timely - both DVDs and the external hard-drive we requested he place the footage. Eric's rate was reasonable and he is wonderful to work with. We would highly recommend Eric.

Unlike the standard $2000+ wedding photo offers we received, Metin understood that we were having a small, family wedding with limited needs and a limited budget. He met with us at the venue weeks before the event, then came on time and worked tirelessly for four hours to chronicle every moment of our ceremony and reception. We are very happy with the memories he provided us. Highly recommended.

My experience with Adam was very professional. I hired Adam as a surprise videographer for my best friends wedding. Wedding budgets are near impossible to stay within nowadays, and my friend decided to cut out a video for his wedding. As a recent married couple, I would say that the video is the single most important memento that I have from my special day. We hired Adam and he helped keep our secret all while planning with their wedding coordinator for their special day. He was professional, courteous, very responsive, and everything you need in a videographer. I highly recommend Adam!

Brandon was really easy to work with and communicative with what we needed for our wedding day. Our wedding was almost 450 people and combined both Indian and Afghan traditions, and still Brandon was able to capture both cultures and the energy and excitement of our guests so beautifully. I'd definitely recommend Brandon to anyone looking for a wedding videographer in the area!

Bryan is an incredible videographer! We decided at the tail end of our engagement to have video of the wedding and Bryan did not disappoint! He listened to what we were looking for, and was attentive and responsive through out the entire process. My family and I love the videos. I gave one to my parents and another to my MIL, and they cried watching it. Bryan captured the love, energy, and essence of our special day!

Claude is an absolutely amazing videographer! He is very professional, arriving on time and very responsive to texts and emails. My bridal party thought he and my photographer were from the same company because they collaboarated so well. His rates are very affordable, especially for the high quality product you receive. It rained on my wedding day so I can imagine how much more awesome our video would have been with the drone footage! Coworkers watched our wedding video and commented that it was like a movie trailer. If Claude is free on a day you need filming, you are in luck. Book him immediately!! https://youtu.be/Uq9o5f4bM4U

True Vine captured every special moment my husband and I shared on that day! I have referred several friends and family to them as well and all have had the same positive report! I would recommend them to anyone looking for great quality to capture their big day!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
