AGS (Ashburn Guitar Studio) offers quality instruction in the classical guitar: My students are usually referred by Loudoun County Public Schools' middle and high school guitar teachers and they receive four to five, 30-minute private classical guitar lessons each month for $30 per lesson. The classical technique requires students to play with nails (no plectrum) on a nylon-string guitar. The standard repertoire includes the music of notable composers such as Sor, Aguado, Carulli, Carcassi, Giuliani etc. Quarterly studio recitals are held that feature AGS students and local professionals.(show more)

What do you love about your job?
I absolutely love everything about my job. Music has always been my passion. I decided a few years ago that even if it meant making less money than I was accustomed to, I would devote my career to music. It has paid off in spades as I am the happiest I have ever been and turned my passion into a rewarding business. It really is sometimes surreal to think about where my life is now and where it is going. Teaching is the most rewarding part of all. Seeing my students realize their own potential and make progress in front of my eyes is truly a blessing.
What or who inspired you to start your own business?
I worked my way through college as a bartender in Baltimore. Though the pay was good, I never felt any fulfillment. I always knew that I wanted to be involved in music, but it took the encouragement of some very kind local musicians to give me the confidence to take a big step forward. I have always known that I would never be truly fulfilled working for someone else and that I would eventually run my own business. Once I started playing music in bars and teaching lessons, I knew I had found my career. I believe that when you are unrelentingly passionate about something, you cannot fail.
