Ryan is an awesome trainer. My dog was "trained" at a big name training company and he came back home worse. He came home aggressive and very possessive. Ryan of Ruff House has been working with my dog and now I can take him out in public without him snapping and growling. I recommend Ryan to anyone that needs help. You get the personalized service with Ryan and only Ryan. He doesn't pass along your baby to someone that does not have experience and know what they are doing. I strongly recommend him to anyone that needs help.

This is an absolutely fantastic company. I was super nervous about leaving my puppy to be walked by a stranger but I have been so incredibly pleased with Waggy walkys. I've had two different walkers and both have been so trustworthy, kind, and reliable. I don't ever worry about my baby I know she's well taken care of and loved when I'm not home. On top of that their customer service is great. So so glad that I decided to do this!!! They are awesome here!

Canine Dominion is a great company to work with. The owner came to my home and picked up both of my dogs and dropped them off once boarding was completed, which was a awesome feature. During there stay with Canine Dominion, my dogs were trained on basic commands and were well taken care of. The owner even sent pictures of my dogs to keep me updated during there boarding, which made me feel even more comfortable. It was truly a pleasure working with the owner Jauvaurie and I will definitely board my dogs with him again.

Jody was (and still is) a tremendous help! She came prepared with lots of great ideas and information, all of which were extremely helpful. I especially appreciated her advice on making mealtime a fun and educational experience. He has really taken to the games/toys to get his food, rather than gulping it down in 5 seconds. With her guidance, we have registered our puppy for his first kindergarten class. He is off to a great start! We are taking advantage of Jody's new service, in-home puppy sitting. We had hoped to take a vacation this summer, but with a new puppy it did not seem possible. Jody has a great service in which she will stay with your little one, in your home, and continue to work with them. No need for boarding! I am happy to recommend Jody to anyone looking for a wonderful trainer, who obviously loves puppies. I have already given her information to two friends with new puppies.

Mr. Haywood and his dog trainers could not be any nicer. Our Wheaten Terrier is much smarter then we thought she was and is listening to us better then we could have imagined. We have also continued to use their services for boarding when we are away. We have been super happy with the results and on going work.

Andy is an experienced and exceptional professional who has been walking my standard poodle and service dog, Cooper, every weekday since September, 2013. Andy was referred by my dog trainer, and it has been a perfect match since day one. Cooper waits for Andy at the door each morning with tail wagging happily. Andy is always on time, reliable and dependable, and has a calm, patient, and positive approach in working with dogs. He is very knowledgeable about dog behavior and other care issues such as nutrition. Not only does Andy give Cooper a great early morning walk, but also spends time with Cooper in feeding and playing with him afterwards – he’s Cooper’s “playman”. In addition, Andy has gotten dog supplies for me at the local pet store as needed, and I have used his boarding service at his residence at times. I highly recommend Andy for any pet needs. I guarantee that you will be in the most capable caring hands.

Kevin is an awesome trainer. He is very professional and knowledgeable. I have a, now 1 year old, yorkie named BJ that I was having training issues with. Before I found Kevin, I sent him to an overpriced boarding school that was suppose to teach him basic commands. When I picked BJ up the trainer went over everything with me and we were fine. BJ stopped listening to me like a week after being home. Kevin is very hands on. He worked with me until I got it right with BJ. It's been 2 weeks since our last session and BJ is still listening and doing well and I know it's because of the methods and techniques that Kevin used!

My 2 dogs love spending time with Sharon, her friendly and accepting dogs, and exploring the large fenced property. Sharon is very flexible with drop off/pickup times to fit my schedule. When I pick them up, my dogs are happy and relaxed, not frantic to leave as they are after a stay in a commercial kennel. Sharon and her dogs give mine a a vibrant and caring environment, and give me great peace of mind when I must be away. My dogs will be very happy to visit again next weekend and for our long family vacation a few weeks from now.

The owner of PuppyLovin, Julie, is one awesome dog trainer and a wonderful person. My wife and I have been taking our German Shepherd to her for training, boarding, and day care for about a year and a half now. She has really been a godsend when it comes to dog training. Without her training, assistance, and consultation, we would have had our hands full with our GSD. I highly recommend PuppyLovin for all three of the services stated above. Julie will cater her services to the needs of your dog and develope comprehensive plan for your pet.

Gray is dedicated, knowledgeable, and very trustworthy. Being a vet and having an older dog with a few chronic medical concerns, it was really important to leave her with someone I trust completely. Gray has never let me down and I know my dog is always in good hands with her. It's always comforting when Kota is excited to arrive at Gray's house for the weekend. I'd highly recommend her.

Susan is the dog walker, trainer, running companion, and home away from home for our three year old Carolina dog Sandy. The American Kennel Club says Carolina dogs are the most hierarchical breed which means until you establish yourself as their alpha, they can be willful, exhibit dominance (i.e., they want to be at your face level so they jump up), and have almost boundless energy. We were told that Sandy would be as energetic at 13 years as she was at 13 months. We said, What have we gotten ourselves into? But Susan has turned Sandy into a perfect lady. First she taught her to sit in the care\ and not bother the driver. Sandy now loves her rides. Susan took Sandy on long runs. Sandy came home so tuckered out she only wanted to lie on her pillow and sleep. When Susan arrives for Sandy’s run, Sandy gets so excited she wants to jump up and kiss Susan’s face (remember dominance). Susan uses that as a teaching moment so that Sandy minds her manners and has to wait and sit before she gets to go on her run. Susan has four dogs of her own and when she boards Sandy for the weekend the dogs have a wonderful time together. Susan's dogs teach Sandy their good manners. In short, Susan has taken one of the most difficult breeds to train and turned her into almost the perfect pet, because once Sandy learned her manners all she wants to do is kiss and hug you. We love Sandy and she is a full member of our family and we cannot thank Susan enough for helping us train her. In short if you are looking for help with your dog from simple regular exercise, to boarding, to basic and then complex training, we cannot recommend anyone more highly than Susan Rubin for that service.

I boarded my furry baby with Annia. I must say that I was extremely pleased with her services. She went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable leaving him while I vacationed as this was his first time boarding. While my pup was on her care she was constantly updating me with messages, pictures and videos of how much fun he was having with Simon😊. After picking him up my pup spent the entire day and I really mean the entire day sleeping. That only tells me how much fun he had while at Simonsez. I'm very please, I will be a return customer and I highly recommend Simonsez services.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does boarding a horse cost?

Finding the right horse boarding location is a big step in a horse owner’s life. This will be the place your horse will live and where you will visit multiple times per week or even daily. The cost of horse boarding will depend on the level of service you desire, the location of the stables, and the luxury level of the property. Here are some examples of average horse boarding costs:

  • Overnight stabling: $30 per horse per night.
  • Partial boarding (owner feeds and mucks): $220 per horse per month, with a three-month commitment.
    • Administration of oral medication: $10 per dose.
    • Bandaging: $20 per event, plus cost of materials.
    • Trailering to vet if owner is unable: $25, plus $25 per hour to wait with horse.
  • Basic full boarding: $325-$350 per month per horse. Includes twice daily hay and daily stall cleaning.
    • Horse training: $20 per session.
    • Pasture turn out: $20 per session.
    • Blanketing: $1 per day/$30 per month.
    • Vet or farrier hold: $20. This means haltering the horse and standing with it as it receives treatment or shoeing.

Where can I board my horse?

You can board your horse at any barn or stable that provides horse boarding services. To find horse boarding near you, read reviews of area locations and speak with equestrian friends to find one with a solid reputation. Ideally, the location will be within a reasonable drive from your home or office. This is especially important if you are paying for partial boarding services and are responsible for feeding your horse and cleaning its stall each day. You may choose your boarding barn or stables based on the services they provide. Some offer more extensive amenities — at an added price — that reduce the amount of work you need to do to keep your horse comfortable. Consider whether you want training, blanketing, exercise and other perks in addition to standard offerings like hay and stable mucking. Your stable may have temperament requirements and proof that your horse has the proper vaccinations required by your state. This protects both your horse and the other horses in the stable. Many states require that locations offering horse boarding services have stable licenses that are renewed each year. Always be sure to enter into a clearly written boarding contract that will cover your horse and belongings in case of accident, and remember our tips for smart hiring.

What is horse boarding?

Horse boarding is like rental housing for your horse. Horse boarding is helpful for people who don’t have the space or the resources to install and maintain a stable on their property. A horse can be housed in a barn with other horses and receive the care they need. Owners can visit their horse for riding, grooming, training, etc. Horse boarding services may vary based on the company and the price. Some horse boarders may offer short-term boarding of 24 hours to several nights for people passing through an area, while most offer boarding by the month for horses whose owners live in the area. There is partial- and full-service boarding, which indicates how much of the work of feeding the horse and cleaning the stall is the responsibility of the owner rather than the boarding barn. For an added fee, horse boarding can also include grooming services, riding and training, medication administration, and more.

To find the right boarding fit for you and your horse, make a list of your top priorities. These might include immediate access to riding trails, round-the-clock supervision, or a nearby or affiliated veterinarian. Always visit the site to learn exactly where your horse will be kept and whether the barn and grounds are in good condition. Read reviews, and always practice smart hiring. It’s also critical to sign the proper legal documents that protect both you and your horse, such as boarding agreements. Above all, make sure it seems like a place your horse will be comfortable between your visits.
