Charles W. says, "I could have easily chose all five of the above items. Hernandez and Daughters Landscaping inc. Cut down 18 very large trees, removed them from my property and grind up the stumps. I thought the price was a good honest and fair price, the crew was very punctual in showing up when they said they would. The heat was unbearable, but the crew worked very steady and professionally as if it was a fair weather day. They respected my property and repaired/leveled all grounds that was damaged by falling trees, they did a perfect clean up prior to completing the work and leaving the job site. Couldn't have asked for a more quality job. Would not hesitate to use them again. In short the job came out much better than I had expected. I News videos and if those change I found all the workers to be very courteous and respectful. I had zero complaints."See more

Frances G. says, "Wow! I just loved working with the Garcia’s fine gardening and landscaping. Jonathan was very responsive. He flexible as plans had to change for me because of budgeting on my part. We easily came to a step by step process that allows me to spread out the work during the seasons so I can do stuff debt free. This time I asked them to remove all the brush from all 5 of my segmented yard. They were covered in brush that was easily taller than 6’2”. Sooo much work. When I checked his prices versus what I could find online, it was clear he was really giving the best prices available. Not to mention, he’s just a really nice person and his crew to work with. He’d meet me early so I could get to work on time too. I really didn’t expect things to go so smoothly. Amazing! I couldn’t have asked for better. I’ll put up progress pictures up after we start putting in swales, bridges, stairs and plants. Right now it just bare earth, which truly is a big deal in itself. My hero’s!!!!"See more

Johanne A. says, "This contractor and his crew are amazing; they did a fantastic job on my small patio at my townhouse in DC whereas I had huge problem of rodents (Adams Morgan and its restaurants....) digging holes in the dirt spaces b/w my patio slates and fences. The communication between this contractor and I (while I was in Canada) was seamless from the first communication through the end of the job (with pictures documenting progress through the end); they carried out the work efficiently and with great care and workmanship. Highly recommended for quality over price. For all hardscaping and softscaping projects, Carbajal is the go to contractor!!!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I hire the best landscaper in DC?

To find the best landscaper in DC, conduct an online search of local professionals. Begin by comparing their ratings, and keep a lookout for any that have a Top Pro badge. Pay special attention to all the customer reviews for DC landscapers and any landscaping photos, as these showcase the pros' craftsmanship.

Make sure the landscapers you’re considering have the specialties you need for your project. For example, do you want softscaping (grass, artificial turf, trees, shrubs, flowers, mulch, etc.) or hardscaping (brick patio, gravel walkway, water features, retaining wall, boulders, stones, etc.) services? Or a mix of both? The landscapers’ online profiles should provide plenty of details of what they can provide.

Next, you’ll want to make sure the landscapers have enough experience and maybe even some credentials. For example, landscape architects in DC should have a license. But for landscapers who are not architects, you might want to find out if they belong to any associations and have obtained professional certifications from those organizations.

After you’ve created a shortlist of landscapers, it’s time to start asking for free estimates. Compare their quotes, and choose the landscaper that has a fair price.

How much does brick repair cost?

On average, brick repairs will cost you around $500, with a range of between $350 and $600. However, be aware that a number of factors will have a large influence on this cost. First is the severity of the problem. Some brick repairs are as simple as applying new mortar — others require removing the brick entirely and fixing the substrate. If budget is a concern, contact several brick masons for cost estimates to find the best price in your area.

How much does landscaping cost per square foot?

The cost of landscaping can vary widely based on the type of plants you wish to have, the amount of grading required, the condition of the land before work begins, and other factors. Adding in designer or high-end landscaping, as well as hardscaping such as sidewalks, walls, or patios will add to the cost. To find out how much your landscaping will cost, contact landscapers near you.

Is hiring a landscaper worth it?

A landscaper is worth it if you don't want to invest a significant amount of time and effort into planting, trimming, raking, weeding and performing other operations on your garden or yard. Hiring a landscaper to perform regular maintenance in your yards and complete bigger projects is valuable if you’re looking to sell your house. A professional landscaper can make your house more appealing to potential buyers.

Some landscapers may perform maintenance duties — remove leaves, mow lawns, trim trees and shrubs, etc. —  but they can also help you bring bigger projects to life. This may include adding a misting system, an outdoor fireplace, water features, artificial turf, a patio and much more.

Start contacting landscapers near you to get free estimates and start planning your project today.

How much does landscaping cost?

The price of landscaping varies widely due to the range of choices that can be made, but you can expect to pay anywhere from $320 and $20,000 for your landscaping work. The national average cost for a landscaping project is $2,600.

Factors like the choice of plants, the amount and type of hardscaping, the square footage of your landscaped area, and the region you live in will have a significant effect on your landscaping cost.

Where can you buy landscaping rocks?

You can shop for landscaping rocks from a variety of different sources. The first option is large chain retail stores specializing in home improvement and gardening. Often, landscaping rocks like slate and other slabs arrive on pallets and are sold in bulk, giving you a great deal. Your local landscaping store also carries rocks, and you may even have a stone or quarry seller nearby who can sell you the rocks you need. When in doubt, contact landscaping companies near you to see if they have rocks you can purchase.

What is landscaping?

Landscaping is the intentional placement and maintenance of living plants on an area of land or in your yard. This can include trees, lawn, flowers, bushes and other plant life and often incorporates mulch and other organic matter. The primary purpose of landscaping is to provide beauty to the house or building it surrounds.

Many landscaping companies also offer design, architecture and construction services. For example, they can help you design a yard that incorporates a patio, deck, pool, fire pit, lighting, walkways, retaining walls and more.

How much does landscaping improve home value?

Landscaping your property can boost the value of your home between 5% and 15%, according to Better Homes & Gardens. They specify that this is the amount of value added when you upgrade the condition of your landscaping from poor to good, though these terms are subjective.

What is landscape design?

Landscaping design refers to the art of analyzing an existing landscape, planning how to transform it through flora and fauna design and working with a client to ensure goals are met. Landscape designers may completely transform an outdoor space or make minor modifications to enhance it. They may also call for grading and the construction of hardscaping surfaces like walkways or patios to add to the enjoyment of the space.

Are cracked bricks a problem?

It depends. Sometimes, you might not require repair work — but you should still hire a professional to see if the cracks in your bricks are a serious threat to your home’s foundation and structural integrity.

Cracks (particularly larger cracks) can present a problem. If you have stair-step cracks or horizontal cracks, there may be an issue with your home’s foundation. Wider cracks can also allow water to infiltrate and cause damage from freezing and thawing. Insects can also enter wider cracks and cause more problems (and headaches).
