The Checkmate team was very thorough and professional and helped with more than what I asked them to. My fiance was unable to help due to an injury and they really stepped in to help with a lot of the move. I appreciated how responsive Adrian was throughout the whole process -- even when he was stuck in traffic, he kept me updated. Adrian and Nate were very friendly (especially to our dog - who was all over the place) and were very accommodating to that fact. They were very fast and handled everything with care. I would definitely hire them again for another move.

We hired Reinaldo @ Del Ray Landscaping to remove the white rocks from the plant bed in our front yard. He did a reasonable job, however, we still found quite a rocks left around the edges and towards the back of the plant bed, otherwise I would have given him 5 stars. It was lot of rocks, at least 10 wheel barrows full. A nice guy and would hire him again. We changed the original scope of work because we decided to do the planting, landscape lights and irrigation system ourselves.

These guys were great. Right on time at 8:30 AM and got right to work trimming and properly pruning my 25ft Crape Myrtle and were very accommodating when I asked them to cut down one large bush as well. They did a great job with the tree and and also cleaned up the yard and alley behind my house. Looks better than when they arrived :) Highly recommend them.

I had a very positive and productive experience with Dwayne's Superior Lawn. My yard was resembling the Amazon Jungle. Dwayne's Lawn Service responded quickly, scheduled an appointment, and had my yard looking respectable as evidenced by the neighbors smiling and giving me the thumbs up sign. I plan on using this company for regular yard service and highly recommend them to customers seeking lawn service or maintenance!

Israel didn't absolutely outstanding job. His crew removed a lot of old landscaping and replace planted new shrubs and plants. Israel made such a beautiful layout of different flowering and colorful plants that I would've never thought of. He has a good eye for beauty. His workers were very professional and courteous and worked hard for two solid days. We were so pleased with his work that we actually asked for estimates for other work on the property. I highly recommend him

Great job, done quickly and at a reasonable price. Not knowing anything about gardening, I asked P&P to select and plant everything in my little yard. It all looks great. Super happy with the work.

I had problems with lawn care in the past and decided to trust in this website again for affordable lawn care. Where other lawn services brought equipment and crews to get in and out as quick as possible, David came personally and walked the yard with me to understand the scope of work and what I expected. After seeing my lawn he gave me a very competitive price that I was astonished by. I stopped by the house during my lunch and to my surprise David was still there finishing up. This is not to say his work is slow by any means, it was just a shock to me because I was used to companies trying to maximize houses per day. Also, to be honest we had let our yard get in pretty bad shape. In the end I did the math and couldn't understood how David could have made much money off my house for the time spent there. To his credit he never asked for additional money and thanked me for my time and was on his way. Later when I contacted David and offered to pay him more for his time, he did confess it was a lot of work. Not only that but we are now fortunate to have him booked for recurring service and still at a very affordable price!

The quality of the work and clean up was great. One of the guys removed one of my good plants and they replaced it the same day. Only concern was the pricing. Received a verbal estimate for $1035 that I agreed to. When the work was complete I was told it was for $1200. If I use him again will be getting the estimate in writing.

This company's work was exceptional from start to finish. Jon's estimate came fast and was thorough on building three large beds that were filled with weeds and had unkempt edging that ran the perimeter of 1/2 our house. He offered design ideas, found plant and mulch discounts, took care to guard against any foundation water leakage, problem-solved our yard in many other ways, and went the extra mile in every way. And his estimate for that work was not the lowest but not the highest by far. And the professionalism and end result was work every penny. He will continue to maintain our lawn and I look forward to the next major garden project with his company.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
