Mr. Stanley is a truly outstanding ACT/SAT prep coach. With his efficient writing and reading techniques, I have been able to gradually improve my times as well as answer quality. His son, Costan, is also very helpful and informative math tutor. In fact, Costan may have taught me more than my math teacher at school has. The way that Costan distributes the material is very simple and easy to understand. He thourougly breaks the material down to the point where it is nearly impossible to not understand. Altogether, my experience with both Mr. Stanley and Costan has been a great one that has helped me find tremendous improvement.

We highly recommend Andres as he is a great math tutor!! We just had him come for the first time last night for my son who is a high school sophomore and was having trouble in geometry. My son wanted someone he could relate to and Andres fit the bill perfectly! Andres was on time, has a very nice personality and was able to help with all of his questions/problems. Andres also gave my son great study and test taking tips and all kinds of extra advice. My other son is getting ready to take the SAT and we are going to use Andres for that as well! We are super picky and we highly recommend Andres!!!

I am extremely pleased wth my sons results. After his sessions with Dr. Dubler, he is a much more confident young man! He had taken the test twice and did not perform well at all. We just received his results and were amazed at his success. My son increased reading by over 160 points and math by 100 points. We are thrilled. I can't say enough about the services received and the life long effects it will have on my son . Thanks for everything!

David is an awesome math teacher. He helps his students apply themselves and goes through exercises to make sure they have mastered the material. I haven't taken a math course in 9 years. Tutoring with David has made this class a lot easier to understand and I am on my way to completing this course with an A! 😊💯👍

If you are shopping around, just stop and call these guys right now. I've been very bad at math my entire life. I flunked algebra three times before I called Arbor Tutors. The tutor was very understanding and nonjudgmental. You cannot go wrong with this company.

Mrs. Ridley was my algebra 1 teacher in eighth grade. She helped me stay organized and master the concepts of algebra 1. She helped me understand and further my knowledge in math and was always there to help and answer any questions. I would recommend her to anyone who needs extra help in math. She is a great teacher.

About

I provide tutoring services in high school mathematics, college math through first year calculus. I am an expert in classes such as trigonometry and college algebra. I have twenty years experience teaching high school math and ten years teaching at colleges and universities in the area. I am a very good teacher and, when teaching high school, received an award as the outstanding teacher in my congressional district, one of only twelve in the state at that time. I also provide mathematics prep for FCAT, SAT, MCAT, GRE, LSAT, etc. I live in Broward County and will travel from North Dade County to Central Broward, though I do the majority of my tutoring at my home in Cooper City. The fee is higher if I travel to you.

About

My work stands out because I am a truly compassionate person with a love for helping children! I am only 17 but I am very responsible and I believe that starting my experience with helping children at my young age will not only benefit my future goals, but also help me relate better with the children I am helping to do better in life. I believe that all struggles placed on our children are truly gifts for them to view the world with a unique perspective, and for the care takers of these children to focus on sensitive characteristics within themselves. We can all greatly benefit from each other! My favorite thing about this job would be the connection I tend to develope with the childeren I help and the qualities I get in return preparing me for life as a better person.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

  • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
