Mark and I spent three months working on different jazz progressions and soloing techniques, as well as analyzing theory so that I can use some of the techniques in my own songwriting. He is very personable and kind, making sure that I understood the concepts for each class, and really broke things down into strategies that are useful for me. He makes learning jazz piano and music theory really easeful, tailors his lessons to what you’re interested in (instead of a rote set of exercises) and managed to always find me exactly what I was interested in doing even if it was esoteric, and was really encouraging and positive. My goal was to get a thorough grounding in music theory and learn how to arrange piano for my own songs, and I was amazed how easily it came with his instruction after years of wandering through pop piano on my own.
