I hired Richard for my daughter's sweet 16 party that was 4 hours long. He was on time, brought great lighting, and played all their favorite music. I would definitely use him again and recommend him to anyone.

Few hours ago, i just finished an event with Excellent Entertainment Djs and no matter how tired I am, I needed to write this right now because picking Chris and Excellent Entertainment DJs was the best decision that my client and I as a 15 Party Planner made during our entire party planning process. We used Excellent Entertainment DJs both for entertainment, photo booth, videography and for lighting -- both of which they absolutely knocked out of the park. When we signed up with Chris, we didn’t truly understand how much of an impact our decision would make on the outcome of the girl's big day. Chris and his team spent the time to have “creative email sessions” to get to know exactly the activities in advance including interests, our music preferences, and our overall vision for this big night. They then designed a tailored end-to-end flow for the evening and worked with us on planning all each of the big moments. Looking back on our experience with Excellent Entertainment DJs, we got FAR more than a DJ, we a conductor for our evening who kept the excitement and energy of our 15 Party night going until the last song. As for the night itself, the dance floor was so packed throughout the evening that people were dancing on the carpet (and it was not a small dance floor). The 15 girl entrance was electric. The lighting was perfect. It was truly the best night as a planner that I have ever seen and made possible by the talent and hard work of Chris and his team. You may be able to find less expensive wedding DJs, but going with Excellent Entertainment DJs was the best money that my client could have ever spent. Hats off to the Chris and his team for a night and experience that my client, her daughter and guests will never forget.

I had no idea the photo booth would be such a hit for my daughter's 10th birthday party. We had 30 kids here. Just make sure to let customers know how tall the booth is so that they can maje adequate accommodation. We had ours set up on the patio by the pool.

Dale did an AMAZING job helping to represent our company by Twisting some balloons at our booth. First of all, he was early to set up and completely ready to go before start time. Great work ethic! He is such a true artist. His designs were intricate and so detailed. He kept a nice line of people for us to talk to while they waited. He actually was a great partner in helping me get our last sale. He is great with people, especially kids. He interacts with them as he makes their choice of balloon. He is great for a more business oriented event (like ours) as well as an amazing person to have at your kids party. He even made my daughter a unicorn for me to take home for her. I highly recommend.

Cara was FANTASTIC! She she showed up to our Lake Mary birthday party 30 minutes early and was ready before our first guest even showed up. We only booked for 2 hours and more kids showed up than planned. We needed her to stay for an additional hour and and she did it with a smile on her face ! My family and I could not be more happy with Cara's service and skills. Price was extremely resonanble for the quality and amount of work that she produced. I would gladly choose her again for any other face painting needs and I highly recommend her for any of yours.

Eric is a very talented and lovely individual. As a music lover, I was so charmed by his selection of songs for my MIL’s 70th birthday. It was the perfect touch during dinner and all of the guests remarked on how nice it was to have music throughout the dinner party. I couldn’t agree more and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.

Dana is an incredible colleague, performer, musician, human being, and pedagogue. I have seen students improve exponentially under her guidance. They improved technically, and also musically, becoming strong, informed performers. Dana is always thinking outside the box, constantly adding new ideas and concepts into her teaching. She stays up-to-date with all the modern pedagogical writings, and never stops searching for excellence. Her pedagogical approach is a great blend of her strong Eastern European conservatory training with the contemporary American strings school. I strongly recommend her to everyone who is looking for a versatile, empathic, and dedicated pedagogue.

The inflatable photo booth was a hit at our XV Party! Everyone from 0 to 90 loved it! Mike was very pleasant and nice to work with. He even printed some pictures out that my daughter lost. At the end of the night, I received a USB and scrapbook from Mike. It was wonderful. I would hire and recommend him anytime!

We saw the Brown Bag Brass Band play and we immediately knew they were the band we wanted to hire for my husband's big 4-0 birthday party. They were amazing from start to finish! They were very flexible to our needs and extremely professional. They totally "made" the party. We started at one location and did a second line to another location. The guests loved it! There was a lot of dancing going on and everyone had a great time. I would highly recommend hiring this band. I can't wait to hire them again for my next party!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

What is a photo booth rental?

A party photo booth is a fun, interactive experience where guests can take a series of photos (usually three or four) that are immediately printed out on a strip as a keepsake. When you rent a party photo booth, the company sets up the booth or photo station at your event; a photographer staffs the booth and coaches guests on how to use it throughout the event. Often the photo booth rental company provides props like silly hats, wigs and glasses. There are different types of party photo booth rentals. An open-air booth has a curtain or backdrop that allows more freedom of movement and enables more people to use it at one time. The traditional enclosed photo booths that you may have seen at the mall or the fair tend to cost more to rent, as they are harder to transport and also cost more for the pros to purchase. The national average cost for party photo booth rentals is $400-$500.

What does a fortune teller do?

A fortune teller offers insight into people’s past, present and future through private readings. Some fortune tellers read palms or use tarot cards, runes, or tea leaves to see into a client’s future. Other fortune tellers consider themselves psychics, numerologists and mystics who look for patterns and meaning in seemingly random events, such as stirred tea leaves or the draw of a tarot card. By interpreting what they see in the cards or leaves, fortune tellers answer their clients’ questions about their lives, such as who or when they’ll marry, whether they should quit their job, or whether they should have a baby. Tarot card readings are a particularly popular way of having your future told, because they’re such a familiar method of fortune telling. More importantly, you can guide a tarot reading by asking the specific questions that are most important to you. By interpreting the cards you’ve drawn, the fortune teller may give you new insight into yourself and help you make an important decision. For some people, fortune tellers are simply amusing, but for others, they offer helpful guidance and spiritual nourishment.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
