OMG, Awesome crew. Florida certified showed up on time and did an excellent job. I was given the opportunity to see the air conditioner, vents, coils blower before and after the work was done. Thx again!

I was immensely grateful that Green Solutions was able to come out on a moment's notice early on a Saturday morning. The house was for sale and we had some very interested buyers flying in that very day to inspect the property. Green Solutions came in and got that air conditioner running in a heartbeat. I am very appreciative! Unfortunately, while the repair he did got the unit working for the same day showing, it could not fully revive the 1993 unit to full efficiency. When the regular A/C person who had been servicing it for years returned to town, he determined that we needed to replace the unit entirely.

Surprised at how fast they scheduled the work and completed a pretty involved project in one day. We have 3 air handlers in the attic and need them moved down to the house. We got one done and will hire them again to do the other 2. Really well done work.

South Florida Ducts did a great job for me again. My air conditioner went out a few nights ago and my AC guy was not calling me back. I recently had South Florida Ducts come out to do a duct cleaning and duct restoration for me and the guys were so friendly and knowledgeable I decided to give them a shot at the AC service. Sure enough, they came out the same night and took care of me. Pricing was very reasonable too, especially considering it was so late.

Efran is very knowledgeable and professional. My old AC stopped blowing cold air and the first company I asked told me the only solution is to change the entire unit which would cost almost $3000c and in addition need to rent a crane because the roof access was too small. I wanted to have a second opinion so I called Efran. He gave three options based on our budget which are 1) install a new AC, 2) change only the outdoor part and 3) get a used AC and replace some parts. We went with the second option, which saved us a lot of money. He took the new unit in parts so we didn’t have to rent a crane. He also fixed my loud fridge within minutes. I will definitely use efran again.

I must say by far the best, most honest and timely experience working with any A/C company I have ever hired for any of my homes in 17 years! I'm not much of a haggler, and frankly I dislike when other companies inflated their prices expecting me to haggle, I wanted no games and great work, that's what I want to pay for, and that's exactly what I got with Luis and his crew. I know the kind of equipment I wanted and what I was requesting, L.A.R's pricing was spot on to what I expected to pay for the high level of efficient air, and a new wi-fi thermostat, and again Luis's price was exactly what I expected far better then any of his competitors. Don't get me wrong, I have zero knowledge of HVAC, and still had many questions and uncertainties for what is suitable for my home, set an appointment at my house, and Luis answered all of my questions with ease and made the most honest recommendations, even when I was ready to pay more for something I really didn't need and he steered me in the correct direction, not rushed as with other companies rushing to go to the next job appointment. From beginning to end I felt like I was dealing with a friend of mine looking out for my best interest, and when the job was done, everything was perfect! You have earned my business for new units and service upkeep for life. Again, I'm truly blown away by the level of service with L.A.R, I'm loving my new high efficient air conditioning.

Jose arrived at my home and quickly resolved the issue with my ac unit! On the same day, later that night, my air-conditioners fan broke and damaged the motor in the ac unit. Jose came right back the following morning and repaired it quickly and at a great price. I love that he had parts in his truck and I didn’t have to wait. Jose was friendly knowledgeable and I will definitely be calling him again! He’s the best!

Temperature Pro are... professional. Our AC decided to stop working and we called them with an emergency and they came first thing in the morning and when expected. They clearly know AC units as Patrick our tech thoroughly tested and diagnosed our problem. He replaced the programmable thermostat which was part of the issue. He even followed up to be sure all was OK. We had cold air and a comfortable home once again. Highly recommended. Thank you Temperature Pro! Honest, reliable, punctual, professional... simply the best and now our AC service pros. We'll let the neighbors know too!

I don't understand about air conditioning, but it wasn't working and he fix it. Even though he did the job, he still charged me the diagnostic. I don't know if that's the normal procedure. Usually, they waive the diagnostic's charge if they do the job.

I was afforded the opportunity to have my HVAC home air conditioner installed by Air Rescue Cooling and Heating Inc. two years ago. Because if their honesty, professionalism, work quality and education of how the entire system works I can sincerely confirm the experience with them was outstanding. I'm a manager of a company and since that experience my company decided to utilize their services. If you're looking for a great company for your home or business, try Air Rescue Cooling and Heating, I guarantee you too would be giving your wonderful experience.

Greg found and repaired the leak in my system promptly and at a fair price. Other air conditioning companies I have used have often tried to sell me a new air conditioner instead, have tried to tell me repairs are not possible, and have overcharged for R-22 refrigerant. I would highly recommend Greg as honest, knowledgeable and fair.

My husband and I recently bought our first home, shortly after moving in our air conditioner stopped working. We contacted Remington Carson to take a look, he was able to come by and see what was going on very promptly. Remington was on time, professional and very knowledgeable. He also didn’t mind explaining what needed to be done. He fixed our a/c in a very timely fashion and it has been running perfect since. I highly recommend Remington to all of my friends, family and anyone I hear in need of an a/c repair!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

    • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
    • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
    • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
    • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
      • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
    • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
      • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
    • Your home has humidity problems.
    • Your home has excessive dust.
      • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
    • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
      • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
    • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
      • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
