EJ arrived promptly to install 3 carriage lights and 3 pendant lights. His work is excellent and he has an engaging personality. He gave us valuable advice on operating these lights and even helped us with a problem we had with the garage door opener. We look forward to hiring him again as we continue with house projects.

I hired John to cover my garage ceiling with drywall, and to add an attic ladder. He did an awesome job, he was always punctual, professional, and did exactly what he said he was going to do. That is hard to find these days, but he was the real deal. He was able to do two smaller jobs of patching some drywall and changing out my water pipes behind my washer and hanging a security camera while he was at my house. I would recommend Millertime to anyone that is in need of a handyman.

Blew away my expectations! I bought a foreclosure and had to have a lot of work done. I hired this company to do the following: fans and light fixtures replaced, laminate replaced where there was a water leak, appliances taken out and reinstalled, glass shower door installed, replaced faucets in bathrooms and kitchen, custom closets designed and installed, painted multiple rooms and cabinets, installed blinds throughout the whole house, landscape enhancements, refinished and sealed my garage floor, mounted TVs inside and out on our back lanai, installed new locks and handles on doors, put on cabinet knobs and pulls, and replaced the key pad on my garage with connecting multiple car openers. They were fair in price and very meticulous. They will now be my go-to company to fix anything in need!! Highly recommend!

First off, I would like to start by saying that if you want a job done, Mr. Tivey is your guy. His dedication to fulfilling all aspects of the job, and performing the job professionally, is quite rare in comparison to other contractors that I have used in the past. He loves what he does, and he genuinely loves to see a job well done, and ultimately see a very happy homeowner. Mr. Tivey is approachable and very knowledgeable, he will guide you in decision making and will communicate very well all of your options and potential budgets for each project. He gives great advice, and will advise you on other projects in your home, even if it is a job that you plan to do yourself. He can do all types of work. He will hire sub-contractors if needed, but don’t worry, he will always roll up his sleeves and do the hard work himself if possible. He will bust his you know what to make sure you are satisfied. I have hired him twice, the first being a phenomenal job on cutting through a concrete wall in my attached garage, to add a door leading to my kitchen. The second job was adding a central heat/air vent to a room that did not have a vent at all. I know neither of those jobs sound very big, but trust me they were very complicated and detailed jobs, and Mr. Tivey did a fantastic job. I highly recommend him due to his commitment, great work ethic, and the fact that he will be fair to the customer in all phases of planning, and performance of the job. The greatest testament of his character is that during the above mentioned door job, my kitchen floor was damaged. Upon his own discovery of the damage, he immediately began planning to lay down new replacement planks, and repaired my floor with no additional charge, all with no griping required from me. I'd like to see another contractor do that! I plan to continue using Mr. Tivey for all of my home needs. Trust me, if you are reading this, and are trying to make a decision on a contractor, let this review and the many other great reviews he has received, seal the deal! Hire him today!

I was very pleased with my new home and garage roofs. Ricky kept me apprised every step of the way, explaining what to expect in the worse scenario once the work commenced. Fortunately, there were no worse scenarios. I appreciate the information he shared, which let me know he was all about great customer satisfaction. He was very personable and made sure I had no questions unanswered. He and his team delivered what he said he would and I will highly recommend Galaxy Builders to anyone who is looking for roof work. As a matter of fact, I will be doing business with Galaxy again in the very near future. Thank you for your honesty and great work!! I am definitely a satisfied customer. James is by far the BEST man for the job (painting) etc. that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and having him paint my interior! He is on time and has a great work ethic and a wonderful sense of humor. I will absolutely ask him to paint my bedroom next and the exterior of my home. I am reticent about leaving such a glowing review as I am afraid as you read this he will become too busy to have any time left for me but I feel it is necessary because he deserves the praise.

Jeff Holden and Paramount Homes took care of a work order from a WDO report and another one from the bank. It was a job on the outside and on the inside. They completed the areas identified in WDO report submitted by owner, to include replacing all rotted wood siding and trim at many locations around the house. All rotting wood siding and trim were replaced and painted to match. All areas of peeling paint were scraped and painted to match existing color(s). The rotted wood above overhead garage door was replaced and painted to match existing color. Scraped the peeling paint in the guest bathroom and paint to match the existing ceiling. They also repair a leak in the attic. They did an amazing job, very quick and professional, and at a very fair and competitive price. I recommend Jeff and Paramount Homes 100% with no regret. They are the best out there.

I contacted Mr. Parrish for a pressure washing job. What I got was an outstanding young man who could do much more then just pressure washing! The pressure washing job included the house, patios, driveway and sidewalk. The job was done perfectly and at the right price! I then hired him right on the spot, to do painting of the garage floor and patios. I also hired him to fix my rock bed boarder. Mr. Parrish is my "go to" guy for any "handi man" projects! He does an excellent job at the right price!!

Howard and his team were excellent to work with. He gave me a list of items to pick and recommendations for the installation process. I was truly amazed by how experienced his entire team was. They laid hardwood floors, raised the floor in my bathroom, and did the backsplash in my kitchen in a timely fashion. The work was outstanding and AWESOME ! We LOVE our new room and backsplash. The pricing was more than fair and they gave me the exact quantity to purchase, so I did not have extra materials to store in my garage. Overall, Great Service, workmanship, and we highly recommend Next Element Homes to anyone! I look forward to doing business with them again in the future.

I had lots of "Honey do" things on my list that hubby never got around to, for example repainting all my kitchen cabinets and hauling a garage full of junk from the garage. Having given up on waiting for him to get around to it I called K&W. They did a fantastic job on my cabinets and I can now use the garage for its intended purpose of parking our cars...so excited! They got hold of me right away, gave me a decent quote for the job, were here when they said they would be and did and amazing job! I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I found out about Sapps Services from a friend of mine, and his work was nothing less than professional. Willie pressure washed my house and patched up a few holes that were in my garage wall. I have a pond in my backyard so there's always green algae on the sides and back of my house. I wish that I could display a picture! The algae was completely gone and he didn't take long at all. The holes that were in the garage were from shelves that had fallen. After he was done I couldn't tell that the holes were ever there. I'm definitely recommending him to everyone I know. Fast, professional, and courteous. ?

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.
