Jorge was an absolute pleasure to work with. He responded very quickly. He had the quote done the same day that I posted the job on Thumbtack and the roof was fixed the next morning. The other larger roofing company that gave me my first quote wanted to tear up a huge part of my roof for one small leak and charge me an astronomical amount of money. It seemed like overkill to me. Jorge, who has worked with tile roofs for years, said the leak could be fixed with only opening up a very small portion of the roof and his price was a fraction of what the large roofing company wanted to charge. Also, Jorge provided a year warranty. The other company only offered a 90 day warranty.

Nelson sent an installer to install 6x24 wood look porcelain tile in my master bedroom and enclosed porch along with new baseboard and crown molding. The installer was very punctual and professional and did a fantastic job of laying the tile on a very uneven concrete floor. He did a beautiful job and in the end both floors are incredibly flat with no "toe kickers". I will definitely be contacting Nelson for other jobs I need done around the house. Thank you Nelson and Estenio! Oh yeah, and the best part is, the pricing was very reasonable!

We tried our hand at putting down laminate flooring and soon realized we needed help. I had called a few places but never got my calls returned. I found thumbtack and as soon as I posted my need, Dave responded right away. He even came out about an hour later to give me a quote and began work the next day. Dave and his brother Paul were super nice, very knowledgable and skilled for the task. They got the job done quick and it looked great! The price was fair and included extras. I love my new floor! While Dave was here, he had some great ideas for future projects in my home. When I'm ready for those projects, I will definitely call Dave again.

Ronnie was awesome! I had another roofer come out before him and was unable to fix the leak that I had. He came 4 times so I was pretty frustrated because my ceiling was beginning to be damaged. I called Ronnie. He came out the next day. He took a look at what was done previously, which was a bunch of tarring that was not working. He ensured me that he would be able to find and fix the leak and that’s what he did!!! He pulled up the mess that was made previously and redid the whole area of where the leak was coming in. It has poured down twice since he fixed the area and there is not a wet spot anywhere! I would definitely recommend him to get the job done right the first time! And by the way he is very reasonable in price compared to some others. If I have any other roofing issues he will be the one I call!

This company was the most professional down-to-earth and friendly company out of the three that I spoke to. The jelly roofer Jason made two appointments never showed up never called. Apex Roofing was extremely expensive. I am satisfied with the southeast company and I will be hiring them to do the work hopefully by the end of March.

Will Ruiz and his company My House Aluminum gave us an excellent experience in replacing our driveway. They tore out the old driveway and removed the concrete. Then replaced it with brand new concrete. The entire project was done exactly according to the timeline that was laid out. And, it came in at exactly the price as quoted.

Very friendly professionals to work with. More than a third of our roof got damaged by Hurricane Irma. Bryan Lancaster and his crew quoted us a fair price and got a superb job done in a matter of three days. Would highly recommend to anyone who has had leaky roofs or major damage to their roofing structure.

I called the roofer for a leak; however the roofer took his time inspecting the whole roof and found many problem areas. I found the quote to be reasonable and hired the roofer right away. They were able to squeeze me in the next day right before this storm is going to hit. I'm pleased with their work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
