We had some areas that needed sod installation after we removed some bushes. Diego from Promise Garden was wonderful! He responded to my inquiry quickly and constantly kept me in the loop as to when he would be there. He even sent me these pictures once he was done. Thank you so much for doing such a great job and being so kind!

Professional and friendly service. The price was fair. He explained the process ahead of time and warned of potential difficulties. For instance, he explained that depending on the wall material you can't pull the cables through the wall -- this happened with one of our TVs, however, I don't think he tried the other side of the wall that was actually inside and very likely not a block wall. Based on previous experience with the same type of service, installation was somewhat slow. All in all, I would recommend Hometastic services.

Vin came over to my vacation rental house and Palm Beach Gardens and repaired a tilted fence and performed some much needed minor repairs inside the house. He did a great job and I already spoke to Vin about another project that I want to engage him for. Definitely recommend.

Frank's communications, work ethic and professionalism were much a part this job. The job looks great with compliments from neighbors. This was a bit of a complicated fence installation with sound block fabric installed between pickets. CPM did excellent work.

I had chosen Nick for a tree removal and stump grinding project at my home as he gave me a great quote, was very responsive, professional and seemed like a great all round guy. After all the details of the job were finalized I had all the utility lines tracked and marked in my yard as Nick requested it to be done before he could start the project. We agreed that once they were all tracked we'd lock in a date to start the project. After tracking was complete, Nick began slacking on returning messages and calls and when he would respond I was not once given a specific date or time he'd start, I was always told "at the end of the week" or "in the next couple of days". I completely understand that things come up unexpectedly and weather plays a huge role in outside jobs like this, BUT, I don't understand how someone running a business can leave their customers in the dark with details as important as a date and time to do the project and not return calls or messages OR do it promptly. The last time I spoke with Nick was 6 days ago and I was told it would be done Thursday or Friday....it is now the next Monday and I still haven't heard a word from Nick. Very poor customer service and communication. I expected more from Nick and his company especially after the great reviews he has and the running around to have utility lines tracked for him. Poor effort.

Oberlan and his company were definitely the people to hire. I had lots of work done by Oberlan. My yard was a sand pit and very uneven. The trees were out of control and my yard looked like a jungle. O worked in stages and laid out the whole plan. First he removed a bunch of sand and leveled the front and back yard. Then he installed a whole new sprinkler system. I needed some additional chores and he had all the people and skills to accomplish the work. Finally he installed new sod. We are in the process now of planting new landscaping around the perimeter of the house and the back fence. Oberlan was always on the job doing the actual work. It's hard to find the right people. Lots talk a good game and don't deliver but O is really knowledgable about plants, grass and how to keep your lawn looking beautiful. There were no surprises with additional costs. I will be using O monthly to keep my yard, plants and trees healthy and green. I will post some before and after photos when O is finished planting all the additional landscaping. Thanks O.

My husband and I have been wanting a fence for years, but we did not want to spend an arm and a leg on it. We decided to put up a 6-foot shadow box wood and go with an independent contractor as opposed to a big company. Durany was the first to come out and give me an estimate within 24 hours of posting my request here on Thumbtack. I signed the contract, and he gave me a detailed list of items to buy. He began work within a few days, and our fence was up in a week. It is well-built, sturdy, and beautiful.

Hi, Chris, insulated the outer walls in my attic, installed a soffit vent, 2 100" panel track window treatments, 2 shades totaling 100", reinforced and insulated two openings in the outside of my villa, cleaned my dryer vent, moved the insulation covering the soffit vents in 7 hours. And was clean, neat and so very knowledgeable. I am truly impressed with his work and his work ethic. He is my extra set of hands. Thank you Chris for a job well done. Chris said he was going to be at my home at 8am and was there at 7:45. So unusual in this day. I have had to wait hours for people to show or worse yet not show.

Got several quotes for a new pvc fence. GoPro was $1,100 cheaper than the next closest quote which caused me concern but I went with them and glad I did. Materials exactly what I ordered, they showed up when they said they would and finished on time. No complaints.

I hired Rufus & Sons (Antwan & his dad Rufus) to replace a front door. It was a lot of work as it required removing the old glass door with sidelights and making the opening larger to accommodate a larger double French door. Their initial quote on thumbtack was very low so I had Antwan come take a look at the actual job and work required. We discussed everything in detail and he came up with a more accurate and fair price. It was double what was quoted on thumbtack but more in line what it should be. This was not a simple removal of old door and putting the new one in. I would always suggest having the pro come and look at the job even if they send a quote directly from thumbtack. Antwan & Rufus were very nice and overall I am happy with the install. After the old door was removed Antwan informed me that there was more work required than he had quoted for and the price would be more. Again the complete job did also require some stucco and tile repair. However I would have hoped all of this was taken into consideration before quoting the job as the final price was more than I expected. Again the price was fair and probably what most professionals would have charged. I would hire them again but would make sure there are no extra charges from what was quoted.

These guys are really hard workers. My job was massive. Removal of 150 feet of 12 foot ficus hedges to prepare my yard for a wood fence. They promised they’d have it done by the Friday and when they got backed up on jobs from all the rain, they came on Friday morning and didn’t leave until they were all out and hauled away. They were determined to keep their promise. Thank you Tony for doing that...we appreciate you guys so much! These guys give fair prices and hard work! Thanks again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
