This review is long overdue. We decided to get together for a celebration with 60 of our closes family and friends, we only had 3 days and my cousin suggested that we should contact Thumbtack to get a quote for this event. The only chef that contacted us was Junior ! We got on the phone and discuss the details for the party ,I was so happy to hear that I needed it not to worry because he would take care of it. He presented ideas of menus and drinks choices for our party and I have to say that is was a total hit ! We are still taking about not only the fact that he was so professional and on time with his staff but that his food was delicious ! The latino fried rice with sweet plantains crisp was to die for and we were blown away with the Baileys 3 Leches ! We had nothing left for the next day ! Thank you Junior for catering this last minute family event, we did get lucky by having you being the only one that answer our request !

Vivian catered our wedding and her food was amazing! We loved that she sat down with us and let us customize our own menu. And she was able to work with our budget to provide us with a beautifully catered event. We highly recommend her for your next event!

All in all they did a good job! The only problem i had is they cleared the tables without asking before we even had our final dance. Wedding was over at 8:30pm and they started cleaning up at 7:45pm and in our contract we hired them until 10:30pm. Other than that the food was wonderful and the staff were very friendly.

Linda has catered four breakfast buffets for an early morning lunch event for our organization. She has provided a good variety and changed up the menu each time. Food has been delicious and plentiful. We will be using her for more of these events and additional ones as well. It is a good value for the price as she includes plates, utensils, etc.

I knew when I met her, she was authentic Italian! I have been to two events where Paola catered. All the food was prepared in advance of our meeting and it all was fantastic food; very tasty, plenty for everyone; and an outstanding presentation. I would recommend her for any occassion!

My experience with Red99 Catering was outstanding! Pam promptly replied to my request to have a Thanksgiving Meal delivered to my family staying in the Grande Vista Resort in Orlando. I would highly recommend Red99 Catering to anyone for any occasion! Thank you, Red99 Catering, for enabling our family to have a lovely Thanksgiving reunion!

We were SO happy with our experience with Chef Kim and her assistant! She arrived right on time, food in hand, and got right to cooking! We were busy with party preparation, and she found everything she needed without even having to ask! Dinner was served as soon as we were ready (she was ready on time-we were not!) and everyone was "Ooohing and Ahhhing" over every course. This was a birthday event/girls' night and we chose Cobb Salad with homemade ranch, Shrimp and Grits (amazing), Fried Chicken, Macaroni and Cheese, and asparagus. Everything was served beautifully, and many people thought her chicken was better than any they'd had in Atlanta! After dinner, she and her assistant cleaned up everything and took care of us! This was such a great experience, we hope to use Chef Kim again!!

I was throwing a Bowties & Cardigans 30th Birthday party for my husband and Bless My Soul Food Catering & More truly made the experience a night to remember. It was a grown folk house party with music/games/etc. so we didn't want anything too formal like a sit down dinner party. I told Chef Nae some of my husbands favorites & the theme and she blew our minds. He loves lasagna but that's not a dish for this type of party. She made a Lasagna Bake with bowtie noodles and several other elegant appetizer-style foods. She also made his favorite, her famous, Red Velvet Cheesecake. The layout was elegant with the 2-tier Red Velvet Cheesecake in the middle. I highly recommend Bless My Soul Food Catering & More for ALL of your dining and catering needs. I also use her personal chef services as I'm a super busy entrpreneur, wife, mom, etc. My family loves EVERY meal. YOU SHOULD BOOK BLESS MY SOUL FOOD CATERING & MORE TODAY!

Our guests raved about how amazing everything was. The Chef personally walked around to each table to make sure the food was great for our guests. Savyor Events are the most professional caterers. On time, helpful with creating a menu in our budget, and then delivering food that is fresh, hot, and delicious. For appetizers, I would highly recommend the bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp and the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella. Main course: My choice = sautéed mushrooms/steak and chicken/pineapple shish-ka-bobs was my favorite. The mushrooms were exquisite! Savyor's serving staff was a pleasure to work with; friendly, prompt, clean, and courteous. Definitely using Savyor Events for the holiday party!

The food was outstanding! All of the guests at our wedding were very pleased and we heard no complaints. The staff was very professional. We were a little disappointed at how quickly they packed up and left. We were also a little disappointed that they didn't leave any food for us to have a plate after everyone was gone as we, the bride and groom, were to busy with our guests to really get a chance to eat. I would definitely recommend Char-Don Catering to anyone and would definitely use them again for any other event!!!

Victor Gomez, Big Chef, made the evening enjoyable and fun as well as delicious. He takes pride in what he does and there was so much food we stuffed ourselves the next day too. I would highly recommend this caterer. He told me he was happy to be of service to my large family and he was very flexible and accomodating. His assistant, his wife, was an added delight. They left the place spotless.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

Do you tip a wedding caterer?

Tipping 15 percent to 20 percent on a $3,000 catering bill can feel daunting — especially in light of all the other costs of throwing a wedding — but tipping your wedding caterer is standard practice. Be sure to ask your caterer about their specific policies. Many catering companies include gratuity as a line item on their bill. If tipping is not automatically included in your total, a good approach is to tip all the people involved the day of the event rather than paying one lump sum to the catering company. For each server and bartender, you can tip $20-$50, depending on how long they were onsite and whether they did exceptional work. You can also tip the chef; experts suggest $50. It’s also a good idea to tip the catering manager, the point-of-contact person who keeps the catering service running smoothly the day of your wedding, ensures all the food looks beautiful and is plentiful, and resolves any mishaps. Industry pros recommend tipping the catering manager $100-$200. If gratuity is not included and you’re tipping individuals, set aside $200-$500 in cash to be safe.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

        • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
        • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
        • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
        • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
        • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
        • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
