We had a great experience with Danielle's bartender services. She created all the drinks we asked for and all of them were delicious! All our guests loved her to the point that she became a big part of the party's success. By the way, she has an amazing personality! We were beyond happy having her being part of our event.

Great company! They are very friendly and most importantly the food was delicious! The caterers created my menu custom to my needs, wants and visions. They forgot a few things and there were a couple hiccups in the road but they fixed them immediately and in the end, it all ran smoothly! I'm glad I chose them as my caterers.

I had an Anniversary surprise dinner and Chef Danny Wells made the night and the experience a complete dream night. Let me start by saying that he even agree to come earlier that day to get familiar with the kitchen and to plan the whole surprise. He prepared an amazing personalized menu just for us. He printed a customized menu with our names and all the entrees and dessert it was a classic touch. And he even went the big big extra mile by helping me set everything up before we got there from moving the tables, chairs, lighting candles I mean without his help nothing would of happen. And ofcourse the food wich is the most important part. Amazing taste, beautiful plating, such a professional serving and explaining each dish and to go over board he made from scratch right there in out kitchen "Basil Icecream" wich was exquisite. Thank you so much chef I definitely recommend his skills and we will have you again more often. Thank you for become part of our family. Thank you chef.

As this was our first go-around without our mother who ran the best Christmas kitchen ever, we decided to look into catering which then led us to the "private chef" concept offered by Jeffrey Sternberg who owns and operates Rosemary and Thyme Catering. Jeffrey was one of 3 caterers who offered their services through Thumbtack, and right from his online presence, we knew that Jeffrey would be the one who would come through on the home-cooked feel we were seeking. One phone call led to an invitation to his home where we were regaled with samples of his work ... now that is service for you! Planning out the meals was a collaborative effort where we told Jeffrey about all our traditional fare over the 3-day feast with Jeffrey being most accommodating to our habitual dishes but all the while making recommendations here and there which we gladly accepted ... it was a very easy and enjoyable process. Everything was delicious, truly surpassing our expectations. There were even several batches of shortbread made up for our inspection before choosing the version that best matched the type of shortbread we were accustomed to. The cauliflower and celery casseroles were actually better than we had ever made ourselves and the filet roast of beef for the day after Christmas was without a doubt the best we'd ever tasted. If there was any negative to be found, it was simply in that there was way more food prepared for us than we could ever expect to eat ... we froze the leftovers and are still enjoying the odd Jeffrey meal ... talk about getting excellent value for your money! The only exception to the quantity was the gravy that only lasted the one meal of Christmas dinner. And Jeffrey also surprised us with plenty of extras like a 4th appetizer that we had not ordered, dips that we had not ordered for the appetizers, and mayo and mustard spreads for our sandwiches, and the killer was an extra turkey roasted in the oven in case we did not end up being fond of the grilled turkey that he recommended. The one hitch was that the re-heating instructions did not specify "convection" or take into account that all six dishes were to be reheated in the oven simultaneously, so the food was not ready when we were led to believe it would be, but it was well worth the wait in the end because everything was outstanding. Service, service, service ... that is what Jeffrey is all about ... and he really knows what he's doing ... you can just relax or else spend the time you save in the kitchen fretting over more interesting Christmas activities ... Thanks so very much to you Jeffrey ... you saved the Holidays for us ... the best to you and your family in 2016. Lorri H. Jan 07/16

The whole team from The Dancing Palate were great. I have to commend Claudia, the manager, she looked after myself and my spouse throughout the whole event by bringing us water, or a drink, appetizer when we were having our pictures taken, during dinner etc. Even when I was overwhelmed with emotions she readily came to calm me down and give me reassurances. The served buffett dinner went without a hitch. All the guests were delighted with the appetizers and the dinner served. We had a four hour open bar and it also went smooth. Have to commend the bartender for the night, she was an absolute delight. Last but not least, our Chef, Paul. Thank you for making a special day more special.

We hired David for my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary party with 80 guests attending. David was punctual and professional since day one. He kept in constant touch with us till the day of the event. When we had our initial meeting David came ready with ideas and suggestions for the event. On the day of the event, David and his team were on time, happy to be there and just worked smoothly together. The food was excellent, all the guests enjoyed the appetizers and dinner. David even printed menus for the event! We highly recommend David and his team for any catering event you may need, you won't be disappointed.

We had our event last night. The food arrived early. We were wonderfully happy with the additional items: soda, water, utensils, etc. The food was delicious. The salad greens were fresh. The individual portions were large enough and the total amount of food allowed for many people enjoying seconds on everything. The cost per plate was exceptionally affordable for getting three meats. The vegetables were done to perfection. The rice was light and flaky. I have shared your request for feedback with the other members of the caterer committee, so you may be getting more feedback from them.

My daughter's birthday celebration was to be an outdoor event (as close to formal as you can get without the BLACK )TIE It rained extremely hard that evening. We had to move the party indoors. And without. BATTING AN EYE!! And Within 45 minutes MissCynthia and her crew transformed my home in the most amazing way. The arrangements, the settings , ambiance was just perfect and not to mention the DELICIOUS meal. Her knowledge of her craft Ability to adapt & adjust to changes while maintaining her clients VISION ,her staffs professionalism & cleanse ness far exceeded our expectation. My daughters day was a huge success in spite if the changes and she was sooooo happy (after a bout of anxiety earlier ). And we give all the praise & gratitude to miss Cynthia. Her services will be recommended to all we know& used by us for all future events large or small.

If I had to only say a couple of words, I would say amazing and fresh! My guests were speaking about how delicious, fresh, and authentic the food was not only the day of the event, but until the next day! We had the paella Valenciana and the tostones rellenos as appetizers. From the moment the appetizers were tasted, all the guests were thrilled! I would highly recommend that you use Jorge Ramos' services. He is professional, cordial, honest and works with you from the beginning to the end and your guests and you will be very happy!

Overall food was delicious . Dessert was uneventful . Charcuterie was good but they had to go out to buy more meat to replenish . Servers were very professional . Chef was obviously talented but not friendly . The food was good but I don't know how many sophisticated events they have hosted . I requested linen received polyester and no one had any idea why I was upset . It was Christmas dinner and originally they had wanted to use red and blue frying pans to display food in . I liked that idea for a casual brunch or Mexican themed event .

These girls are awesome. I was hosting a baby shower. From the beginning my family loved them. The food was delicious. The fan favorite was the tequila shrimp appetizer, veggie dish. Overall we had a wonderful experience. The girls were understanding and flexible. Thank you, ladies :). I highly recommend Conscious Bite to anyone who is looking to have their event catered.

Let me start by saying that this was a last-minute plan that I made the day before Valentine's Day. I made a request through Thumbtack and in a very short time Chef Ricardo contacted me to confirm he was available and provided his menu and price. I called him and he went through in more detail his menu and suggestions based on our food preference. He has a lot of menu offerings by the way in varied cuisines. I could tell that he was friendly and professional just by talking to him. Meeting him in person confirmed my assumptions. He was an absolute pleasure to have in our home. He did a really fun cooking lesson with us while he was prepping the meal. He started by making fresh mango margaritas which he served at the beginning and then he showed us how to make the appetizer, entree and dessert, and we had some 'hands on' too with making crepes. He prepped our dining table and served our meal. The food was beautifully plated and most importantly it was delicious! While we ate, Chef cleaned up our kitchen and dishes. We will definitely use him again for special occasions and would highly recommend him. Thanks Chef for making this Valentines one of the most special ever!

We booked Jose for our annual girls trip dinner. He was very professional and his work quality was outstanding. His food was delicious. His famous chocolate brownies are to die for (wish I could have one right now 👌🏼). Jose is very kind and polite and his prices are unbeatable. Not only did Jose catered our dinner, he also took some pics for us. (Jack of all trades! Lol). I will definitely book Jose again if we return to Florida.

Wally catered a plated meal for 12 people for my 60th birthday in a rental home in Fort Lauderdale. He did an extraordinary job planning the menu, preparing the food on site and even helped serve with his wait staff. My guests raved about the food variety and quality! I highly recommend Wally and will use him the next visiting Florida.

I had the pleasure of sampling some of that GrenHous cuisine when Mark was the guest chef at the BB&T Arena. He and his staff were extremely informative when I asked about the ingredients and preparation of the juiciest airline chicken breast on butternut squash puree I've ever had, followed by the energyballs dessert(had 5!) made with almonds, chia, flax, dates, coconut...Fiiiiire! The food is excellent. Presentation first class. But more than anything i was very impressed by their attitudes, pride in what they were serving. These dudes are passionate about what they do. Do yourself a damn favor and treat yourself to experiencing this food!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

Do you tip a wedding caterer?

Tipping 15 percent to 20 percent on a $3,000 catering bill can feel daunting — especially in light of all the other costs of throwing a wedding — but tipping your wedding caterer is standard practice. Be sure to ask your caterer about their specific policies. Many catering companies include gratuity as a line item on their bill. If tipping is not automatically included in your total, a good approach is to tip all the people involved the day of the event rather than paying one lump sum to the catering company. For each server and bartender, you can tip $20-$50, depending on how long they were onsite and whether they did exceptional work. You can also tip the chef; experts suggest $50. It’s also a good idea to tip the catering manager, the point-of-contact person who keeps the catering service running smoothly the day of your wedding, ensures all the food looks beautiful and is plentiful, and resolves any mishaps. Industry pros recommend tipping the catering manager $100-$200. If gratuity is not included and you’re tipping individuals, set aside $200-$500 in cash to be safe.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

    • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
    • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
    • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
    • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
    • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
    • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.

How do you serve food at a wedding?

Food service at your wedding will affect your catering costs and influence the atmosphere of the reception. Buffet style is more informal; plated meals are a bit fancier; family style encourages sharing. Read about the different food service styles to select your preferred wedding catering choice.

    • Buffet: Caterers can drop off prepared foods for a DIY and budget-friendly buffet option where you set everything up and food is entirely self-service. For a fuller-service buffet, the caterers set up food, oversee the buffet throughout the event, and clean up afterwards. For food only, prices per person might average $16-$18, while a service buffet may start around $20-$22 per person. Adding food stations can increase per-person costs by at least $3-$5.
    • Family style: Servers bring large platters of food to guest tables in courses. It’s less formal (and less expensive) than a plated meal, but more formal and higher-cost than a buffet. You’ll need large tables to accommodate the platters, so plan accordingly when renting furniture for the event.
    • Plated: A plated event is a formal dining experience; waitstaff serve your seated guests for each course, fill their drinks, and attend to them throughout the dinner. A plated dinner is typically the most expensive option for both food and service.
    • Food trucks: Similar to buffets, with food trucks your guests get their own food and bring it to their table. A food truck gives a relaxed and playful vibe to your reception.
    • Cocktail reception: If you don’t want a formal seated dinner, you can opt for a wide assortment of passed appetizers at an extended cocktail hour reception.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
