I've engaged George @ GForce a number of times. He is a true jack of all trades. Recently left a rental and needed my paint retouched. He did a great job covering / repairing all the nail holes etc - walls looked like new. Works hard, gets it done right the first time, and cleans up.

She came into my store to upgrade our walls and give a fresh look. All we needed to do was put on a fresh coat of a new color paint, which she went over with us with many samples. She was thorough and prompt with expediting the job in a retail establishement and now it looks great!

James: Angelika painted a mural on our dining room wall. The work is absolutely beautiful. It's a mural of big band in the grand canyon. The colors are brilliant. The detail is exquisite and we are extremely happy with the results! Kim: We love the grand canyon and wanted to see the beauty of it on our dining room wall. Angelika came over to the house and we settled on a view of Horseshoe Bend. And now the wall is a beautiful dream come true mural that we look at with love every day. Angelika did a great job bringing the grand canyon into our home.

We had an excellent experience with Ashley. She came out and helped us get an idea of what colors would look good for the initial consultation and did a thorough walk through of the rooms to be painted. Since we were prepared by posting pictures and room sizes before we first met, her quote remained the same. After we agreed on price and a painting scheme, we set up days for the work to get done. She showed up and got right to work as planned. She did an awesome job on all 5 rooms that were painted and made sure we were 100% satisfied. When we are ready to get the rest of our house painted we will be contacting her first!

I used Dawn Rapp to design the entire interior of my 130 year old farm house. Not only did she help with all of the interior design - she even helped with the renovation design ( bathroom And kitchen remodel ) She is especially talented when it comes to special design. She gets size and proportion. She’s fantastic with color and mixing pattern and still keeping clean lines. Through the process of designing my house- I grew to reallly trust Dawn. In fact I was out of town and told her to just go ahead and order drapes- I trusted her that much! She’s a pleasure to work with and an asset to any design project!

Catherine did a whole house renovation, as a recently purchased house was stuck in the 50’s. She picked fantastic colors in each room, instead of the boring white I was going to choose. One of the best compliments from visitors to our house is how great the colors are in each room and how warm and inviting our home is—all because of Catherine. She has great taste and knows how to stay within budget. Anyone can see her passion and flair for design and expertise in color. Catherine also chose artwork and picked furniture pieces which worked so well with the paint colors. I get many compliments. One of the best things is that she was able to use much of the existing furniture because the budget was tight, but she added a few new pieces that expertly complemented what we already had. Anyone can spend tens of thousands to make a room look good…Catherine’s skill is that she can work within your budget, but make the room look like you spent tens of thousands!! She also picked all of the tile for the bathrooms—and even made a special trip to one of her personal suppliers to pick out some unique tiles for the master bath. Her choice in tiles was perfect and so well matched—a timeless design for years to come I hired her again when I was renovating my kitchen. Instead of getting new cabinets, which would have cost a bundle she gave me the idea to add trim and paint the cabinets..which worked great. She even went to the granite yard to pick out the slab with me and recommended her granite guy for the install…which was flawless. . A house is not a home until Catherine puts her energy, touch and skills into it. She is fantastic at what she does, is easy to work with and can handle any project big or small. I would highly recommend her. If you hire someone else, you are making a mistake.

Mary was very helpful with design tips for my home. I was trying to merge two full household of furniture and decor into one home, and she gave me great ideas. I'm going to be using them for additional remodel work as well. I liked that the designer and contractor work together. Thanks!

I'm a man that rarely shops for clothes or notices fashion trends. When the new year began I began noticing how out-of-date and faded my wardrobe was. Alexandrea gave me a lot of suggestions, picking out colors and combinations I never considered or thought would work for me. I feel much more confident in my attire after that little "push" from her out of my comfort zone and into 2017!

Our kitchen is marvelous thanks to Interior Designer, Janet Davidsen. She has an eye for color and pulling it all together. We hired her to assist us with our total kitchen remodel from floor to ceiling. The entire process was well managed, professional and timely. She's a gem: delightful and easy to work with. With so many decisions to make, she guided us during each step reducing our stress and keeping us focused. Now we have the kitchen of our dreams and love it!

The firm's two workers worked tirelessly after dark until their job was complete. They were very professional, knowledgeable and courteous. They started at 2:30 PM and worked until 6:30 PM with no breaks. I also paid them to dismantle old kitchen cabinets in the garage. And they didn't hesitate to do did this and hauled them away from our garage. This is above and beyond! The concerns we have are that I had to paint over their stucco job to match the house exterior wall color. I had to make 2 trips to acquire the paint. We also had to drive to Home Depot to buy the materials. If the firm discussed their estimate and job scope with me before starting work, I would have paid them to paint.

Top notch designer and superior customer service. April worked around my schedule and was fantastic. Her consultation was reasonable and well thought out. She took the time to understand my ideas and translated them into a beautiful design concept. A terrific value and she is in my contact list for the next project!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
