What do you love about your job?
I have always had a passion for music and electronics. I fell into radio announcing at an early age because that combined both my passions. I quickly started to do mobile DJ work on the side. Throughout the years, I have grown my business, including the creation of Great Rate DJs, which specializes in smaller, low-key events with tight budgets by working with up-and-coming or hobbyist DJs. I remember when I first started. I had extremely affordable rates to break into the market. After many years, I slowly increased my rates to compensate for the experience I now bring to the table as a full-time professional. However, that priced me out of the types of events that helped me get started. With that in mind, I created Great Rate DJs to help customers find affordable entertainment while at the same time helping part-time DJs gain exposure while getting paid.
What or who inspired you to start your own business?
My sister, Sylvia, who used to be a lead singer in a band, inspired me. I always admired her for what she did, and I always thought about how cool it was that she got to play music and party with people while getting paid.
Describe your most memorable project.
Currently, my most memorable project is the creation of Great Rate DJs. It's by far the largest scale project I have personally accomplished to date. I am now working with over 500 DJs nationwide.
