Kymone was an absolute breath of fresh air to our premarital woes—- I mean counseling! :) My fiancé was skeptical about bringing in a third party or counseling in general. Kymone was able to make a believer out of him through consistent real life scenarios & examples. He taught me what now seems to be basic principles needed to cultivate the relationship we both long for. We were thrilled by the idea of having the person who counseled us also officiate our special day. All of our guests complimented ME for finding him! They were all impressed by his insight to our personalities & relationship without ever formally meeting us in person. We’re looking forward to ongoing coaching sessions with him and are eternally grateful!

I had my first soul session with Kristin and I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it, but she was great at explaining the process which put me at ease. I had gone through a divorce that left me feeling broken and empty and I was still having trouble dealing with the aftermath. Through our multiple sessions, I discovered things about myself and realized that I needed to change some things in my life. Kristin helped coach me to make the changes I wanted to make so I could start this new life for myself. It was nice to have guidance and someone to talk to as I was making these changes. I slowly began to feel my heart and soul healing and was able to let go of all the emotions that come with a divorce. Being able to have someone help you during a rough time is priceless and I am so grateful that I was able to have a soul session during this time in my life because it completely changed my life.

I am incredibly grateful to have worked with Chandra on a personal and professional level for over 10 years. What impresses me about Chandra is that she doesn't just talk the talk- she walks the walk. I've learned that if I'm willing to really listen, to do what I say that I'm going do, and to finish what I've started, that I can create the life I want.

Tania has been coaching me for 3, maybe 4 years now for my time management, relationships, stress and anger management. Tania works with you so you can understand how to go through the motions. She will no do any work for you , but what she will do is hold you accountable for your actions. She is a blessing in disguise. She can give you tough love when you need it but she has a nurturing personality. She also works out payment plans as well. God only knows I needed it at the time. It's good to have someone on your side that works with you. She does take her time to get to know you so you're not another paycheck to her. She genuinely cares.

Miranda is so knowledgeable, sincere and genuinely kind. She sees the potential in me, when sometimes I only see challenges. She encourages me to try something I am ‘sure’ I cannot do, or asks that I ‘try again’ when I’m unsure. She also recognizes when I’m having a hard day and I need more mindful practice than physical. I am so fortunate to have Miranda as my teacher. She adapts my practice to promote my strengths, and has help me to become flexible and strong. She has taught me so much! I cannot say enough great things about my experiences with Miranda and I absolutely recommend and encourage others - if you are looking for a great teacher, mentor and coach- you are in the right place!

If you are seeking a yoga instruction, Shelley Parris Williams is the one to go to. Aware of her practice in FL, I anxiously awaited for her arrival in NY so I could be led by her. Not only does she demonstrate knowledge of technique, but she taught me how to breath correctly (I knew I had been shortening my breathe with incorrect breathing) and takes time to connect with you. Guided by her words and movement, I experienced an "ahhhhhhh" type of experience. Everyone should share in this experience with her!

Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life. Beginning with the clients' desires, coaching uses reporting, exploring, and a consistent commitment to move the client forward. Coaching accelerates the clients' progress by providing greater focus and awareness of choice. Coaching concentrates on where clients are today and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be tomorrow." - International Coach Federation, ICF Life Coaching is all about helping people get from where they are in their life to where they want to get to. If everyone is being honest with themselves, I think we could all do with improving an area or two of our lives. Rather than actually telling someone the answers, a life coach is the catalyst for getting a client to find the answers themselves. By asking challenging and thought-provoking questions, a life coach can unlock the potential in a client. Coaching is forward looking and focused on the action you are willing to take to get what you want out of life. Sometimes, you just can't see the wood for the trees!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

  • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
  • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
  • Defining your career goals
  • Creating a plan for job searching
  • Improving networking strategies and skills
  • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
  • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
  • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

  • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
  • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
  • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
  • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
  • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
  • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
  • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.
