Classic City Tile and Electric did a great job repairing my floor. The work was done as promised and as scheduled. On many of these projects, unforeseen surprises occur that Classic was more than willing to accommodate. He went above and beyond expectations. Great job!!!

Bill and his wife with Carson Flooring Specialists LLC were a great hire. My wife and I wanted brick veneers on a wall in my man cave to make it pop behind the bar. Bill was very prompt in responding that he felt he would be able to complete the job. Within 48 hours he was able to come over to the house to measure the wall and provide an initial estimate. He was very honest with me that he had never laid brick veneers before, but told me tile was his specialty, he had done stone work before (sent me a picture of jobs he had done at his own home), and he felt confident he was the guy for the project. Truth be told, he was. The job itself was a bit of a learning curve for everybody, but he did not waiver in what he promised and delivered. He was punctual every day for the job, worked tirelessly, was very meticulous, and stood behind his project with his name and was very proud of the result (which we were too). He went above and beyond during the project as well. He has worked in OSHA environments previously and employed those same safety and quality standards when working with us. He went above and beyond and pulled back the carpet to make sure brick material or grout didn't get on the carpet and relaid the carpet when done. He laid his own walkways to avoid making marks on the carpet. All waste materials were very organized before being discarded. Personally, I would recommend Carson Flooring Specialists for this job in the future to any family or friends considering brick veneer on an interior room in their house

My rating is "VERY GOOD". Does this fall between good & outstanding? Old tub, toilet, vinyl surround, & ceramic tile surround were pulled out of my very small bathroom. They installed new plumbing, backerboard & the an air jet tub. Not realizing that they are more difficult, I chose small tiles. Gary did a great job installing the tile. Job was held up while we found condo bldg. water shut off. Some unexpected problems occurred, which is expected in any remodel job. I will rate some parts of this job as "good," as some faucet parts were lost & faucet had to go out & pick out & buy a new faucet. As far as what could have been done better - closer supervision of a worker with some personal problems, but the overall RESPONSE to the problems was EXCELLENT. Mr. Wilkins stayed in touch throughout the job. Gary worked very late to get all the tile in, grouted, & cleaned. The whole job took one week. I am very happy with the results.

Excellent service, work, punctuality, responsiveness, and anything else you would expect from good contractors! I have been pleasantly surprised by the way Leo handled himself, and Rigo, who helped him. I have had many other contractors that did not do so well. No complaints- only compliments for these guys! Scope of work: tile, trim, paint, toilets, and even light drywall repair. Give them a call!

Cris we great. I highly recommend him for your tile job. He showed up on time. He consulted us throughout the job process to make sure he was completing the job to our preference. He cleaned up the project space after each step...but did leave a large pile of debris on our front lawn. He completed the job in the amount of time he originally stated and charged us for his original quote - no surprise charges or bartering for more money. His price was fair. His work is very good. And he's a very nice gentleman. Thanks, Chris! We'll have you back soon.

They are outstanding! We contacted them in the middle of the night via thumbstack on July 3rd. They were straight back to us. We could not believe they could clean on July 4th holiday, but they did. We had an urgent need, as we were moving into a new house that had not been cleaned properly. They spent hours into the evening washing down all walls, all woodwork, floors, tile grout and everything else. Attention to detail amazing. Felt like a new house. We were so impressed they came back to pressure wash our patio areas and also deep clean the house we were moving out of. On hand over, the realtor could not believe how clean everything was. All this for a great value price. They are honest, efficient and detailed. Can not recommend highly enough. Will definitely be using again. Outstanding!!!!!!

Tom and his crew were awesome. His communication with us about start date and estimated finish was seamless. He is very professional, skilled, and meticulous with his work. He started by quoting us for backsplash, then paint, then deck repair, then tile repair...We let him do all of it!!!! Everything looks amazing and his pricing is very reasonable. We are about to hire him again to build a stand alone deck for our yard. You will not be disappointed with Tom!

I hired Mike from Floors ATL to remodel a bathroom. After meeting and talking with him, I knew he was the right contractor and I gave him the job to remodel my entire first floor. He tiled our kitchen, three bathrooms and built a new tiled shower. He also installed hardwood flooring, new carpet and painted. Everything looks great. My wife really loves the hardwood floor. She had a strong interior design and Mike was able to meet her goals. Mike gave us several good ideas on the interior design and we came to trust his opinions. We did have some problems after completion but Mike responded quickly and fixed all the problems. I intend to hire Mike again to renovate my rental properties.

Anthony and his team did a great job. My job wasn't a giant job (we relocated the shower, took out the bathtub, built a closet, and new lighting/plumbing), but the price, craftsmanship, and communication were good. Anthony came thru a couple times during the renovation to find things that weren't done exactly to his liking, and each time told his guys to redo it. We were very pleased with the quality of the work that he did. The only downside was it took them nearly an extra week to get the finishing touches on the renovation. However I do chalk some of that up to me adding a bit to the job then what the job was originally. Even due to the scope creep, and extra week - I give Anthony and his team a BIG thumbs up. He's a great guy, and a better contractor. I HIGHLY recommend him for any job you may have. Good luck Anthony, and as always - Go Falcons!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

      • Old standard or electric toothbrush
      • Stiff bristle brush
      • Spray bottle
      • White vinegar
      • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

      • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
        • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
      • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
      • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.
