My editing skills, and my approach to written work that needs editing, are built on many years of working for newspapers. The news had to be accurate, clear, cohesive, whether it was about a high school volleyball tournament, or a public meeting, or crime, or features. My approach to editing fiction and nonfiction comes from that experience, and my strong belief that anyone can write! I love to take a writer's best work, regardless whether it is a rough draft or a manuscript nearly ready to submit for publication, and making that work shine! I am a very good cheerleader and coach for my writers and, for the most part, good friendships have been built during the editing process.(show more)

I believe what you say and how you say it are important. I support my clients by offering a rich and varied background and experience, and by providing a high level of accountability and professionalism. My keen eye catches details most others miss. At the same time, I envision the larger end product so that all the details come together in a cohesive, organized manner. I love the challenge of tackling a new project. Give me your words, your ideas and suggestions, and let me build them into something meaningful and logical, something you will be pleased to share with others, something that gets you the results you need.(show more)

Web Content - B2B Marketing Collateral - Logo Design - Blogs - Whitepapers - Grant Proposals & Business Plans - Dissertations - Scientific and Technical Papers - Book Manuscripts I bring together wide and deep experience in both editing and writing, which are really on a continuum with straight-up copyediting at one end and 100% original researched text on the other. Most projects I do fall somewhere in between, working with my client as collaborator. I can help you shape what you need said. Besides being a master of English grammar, syntax, and style, I am literate in IT, clean energy, biotechnology, medicine, law, political economy, and other technical fields. And now, working with my partners, I can also create a campaign on Facebook for you, and I offer brand strategy and logo design for your product or business. Writing and Information Design: Whether it's copy or content you need, I can rewrite text you already have, I can build on your outline or storyboard, or I can work from your personal or company information assets to create something entirely new based on an analysis of your needs and employing the right keywords. In my decades as a journeyman professional writer, I've learned the rules and conventions of multiple genres, and I can match the tone and style you require. When I'm not doing this, I'm a widely published poet, and with my knack for compression and vivid metaphor I can make taglines and slogans snap. Editing: I can spruce up your text with a light touch, I can take it apart and put it back together--or anything in between. I have a technical background, I've worked with a lot of scientists and engineers, and I can help you convey your information clearly and concisely, whether it's a report, a whitepaper, or copy for your b2b website. But I also taught fiction and creative nonfiction writing for two decades--former students of mine have books out with major publishers--and I can help you tell a story too, whether it's a memoir or a novel. Branding and Logo Design: Whether you're a startup and want brand positioning help or are looking to rebrand because your business has evolved, I can work with you to shape your brand image--the look and feel of your brand, verbally and graphically. Do you want a brand-new logo? Would you like multiple variations on the same concept, or several different ideas? Do you need consulting on how your logo should express your brand values? We'll get it done for you. Bottom line: I'm a quick study with a huge knowledge base, and I can write and/or edit to your specifications with clarity, accuracy, and grace--quickly, reliably, and at reasonable rates.(show more)

I'm a published author and a nationally-awarded poet.) I received a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington D.C. for my poetry among other awards. My bio is on my web site: www.intuitivegateways.com. I have made reading and writing and studying words my life's work. I have 20 years of experience teaching writing and have published 6 books and numerous articles. As a poet, I know the importance of each word as well as the subtle suggestions of symbolism and imagistic language. As a memoirist, I know the trajectory of stories and fragments, how to weave them together. I like to see rough material transformed into a finished draft. I am inspired by the writers I've worked with as well. I enjoy words and making sentences flow. I especially like to work with material that causes emotion in the reader. I believe all good writing is a discovery of self and world and i look for the golden nuggets in each piece I read and try to bring them forth.(show more)

According to Jennifer Basye Sander, an expert in the publishing industry, there are eight players (excluding the original author) in the finalization of any written product: [Developmental editor - Production editor - Copyeditor - Proofreader - Interior designer - Cover designer - Copywriter - Indexer] I have experience with each of these roles, and from top to bottom of that list, the work involved ranges from intensive to light, respectively. Each demands a degree of tedium and creativity that makes them challenging for most writers. I have spent most of my experience working in that first role: developmental editing. But with my amalgam of experience in all these roles, I have become what Sander calls a Book Doctor. Let me help heal your broken passages and torn-up pages; I will even strive to bring your slaughtered manuscript back from the dead, and give it a face-lift, too. In short, I offer services beyond editing or ghostwriting content. I can provide a one-stop shop that includes formatting, layout, attractive visuals (figures, graphs, tables, collages) and more. I can produce easy-to-read questionnaires (including SurveyMonkey surveys), as well as eye-catching resumes, cover letters, reports, newsletters, posters, monographs, fliers, brochuresanything conceivable to desktop publishing. One further endeavor with which I have years of experience is grant proposal submission. In nearly a decade at a non-profit scientific organization, I have been instrumental in obtaining tens of millions of dollars for our center to conduct longitudinal research projects. I am extremely familiar with Grants.govs thorny and painstaking specifications, and can offer support and assistance in submitting to NIH and its many sub-organizations, the CDC, the Department of Education, and other institutions. With the governments newly streamlined submission process, I can edit and format your proposal, then actually submit the grant for you remotely, even though the grant proposal will be delivered via your organization. For one thing, I like the people I get to work with. Every idea or need is different and new. Usually, the process of editing something as complex as a doctoral dissertation requires a significant amount of time with a person, even if we never meet face-to-face. Email and cell phones are wonders. Collaborating on a project that people have put their heart and soul into affords an opportunity to get to know someone in a uniquely intimate way. I am fortunate to have established some solid relationships with my clients over the years, many of whom I now regard as friends. One friend referred to the process of finalizing a dissertation as giving it birth and I was her midwife. And Im okay with that. Also, there is the technical side. I find an intellectual reward in reworking embarrassingly incoherent content into polished academic prose, in restructuring surveys with rudimentary formats into instruments administered to tens of thousands of respondents. My eye for detail is nearly compulsive, my commitment to accuracy is unending. Ultimately, its in my nature to transform a disastrous-looking document into a PDF-ready, high-quality representation of its authors.(show more)

In General: I have a very fast turn-around time and low pricing. I do my best to fit my quote to your budget and I make sure to meet (and often beat) deadlines. For Editing: I don't just glance over your work and tell you what I think you should change. I review each page several times over and use Microsoft Word Track Changes to both show and explain why certain changes should be made. I work very closely with you, exchanging drafts until we're both satisfied with the end result. I can edit a wide variety of genres and styles. For Writing: I have a very creative mind and a strong love of language. I can write in a wide range of styles, including various genres and perspectives. For Design: I don't just follow the latest trends. I work closely with you to achieve the look you desire. Getting paid to do what I love.(show more)

I am highly passionate about the written word, and I provide quality work, no matter what the project is. I love figuring out how to write the best content for each client that I have. I also love helping other writers discover how to make their writing the best it can be.(show more)
The objective is to make the writing process flow -- that can only be done when your editor is completely in sync with the writer and "feels" what the author's characters "feel" and has a sharp understanding of how the author wants to convey the theme. There is a special creative process that takes over between an author and editor -- it's where the "magic" begins between the two. I have been fortunate and truly gifted to work with such creative writers!(show more)
