I bought a garage door opener and had Proline install it. Everything went by quickly and efficiently. My garage even had some dry wall issues, but Jeff was still able to work around them and got the door to work perfectly! Would highly recommend.

Mr. Wilkins did a wonderful job installing french doors in my home. The doors look professional and were perfectly installed. Although there were several unexpected adjustments such as cut outs and trim work that were needed in order for the doors to be installed properly; he made sure that they were done exactly the way that they were supposed to be and again, they look absolutely "wonderful." Mr. Wilkins was patient, meticulous and work deligently to ensure that the job would be a success and it was. I strongly recommend him to anyone who is interested in having REAL QUALITY work done in their home and/or business. This is the man to contact.

Everything about AAA was top notch. One of the best experiences I've had with ANY contractor/vendor for ANY project. Mark was punctual, responsive, extremely knowledgeable, fast, affordable, professional, and courteous. He was a straight-shooter and has to be one of the most experienced garage techs in Atlanta. I was genuinely impressed with his in-depth knowledge of all things garage door systems and he was a joy to work with. He replaced 2 old clunky garage door opener systems and installed 2 new complete systems (safety sensors, remotes, wall panels, keypads, the opener/motor, and the belt systems). Over the phone he told me the price and time it would take from start to finish (2 hours) and sure enough 2 hours after arriving (on time) he was finished. Everything was completed and all of the old equipment was cleaned up and out of sight (I didn't want any of the old junk parts). The bill at the end had no extra charges and was exactly what he told me up-front over the phone. Before calling Mark with AAA, our recent home inspection revealed that the old sensors on one of the doors were mounted in a dangerous manner that wouldn't protect small children (which we have) and we have been worried as our kids frequently play in and around the garage. I tried to fix it myself before calling Mark from AAA and I couldn't because there wasn't enough space to move the sensors to where they needed to be. Whoever installed the old system didn't care or lacked the creativity to properly configure the safety sensors but Mark from AAA cares about doing it right and found a solution without even being prompted by me. When Mark from AAA was wrapping up and walking me through everything, he told me he noticed that safety issue and showed me the creative way he installed the sensor on that one oddly spaced side. He went the extra mile because he truly cared and is a pro and now I have peace of mind knowing the kids are safe and everything is done right. He also walked me through how to maintain the system (which parts to lubricate and how often, etc.). As I understand it he's been doing this professionally his whole life and just branched out on his own a couple of years ago and with his talent and professionalism I can understand why! Definitely will hire again when we replace the actual garage doors and I look forward to working with him!! Thanks AAA!!

I'm a big "youtube DIYer." Every once in awhile I run across a problem where enough people say, "Its time to call a specialist," that I actually call one. Thumbtack hasn't let me down yet. I submitted a job for a garage door opener with a failed sensor and lights. I was immediately connected with John from Genesis Overhead Doors. We exchanged a couple of chats where he speculated on what he thought the problem was, along with his recommendations for both repair and replacement. My unit was about 28 years old so.....the replacement was a desirable upgrade considering all of the integrated automation features available. What impressed me most, was his willingness to come out early on a holiday weekend to accommodate my schedule. He scheduled the earliest possible appointment and was done in less than an hour. John and Daniel set up my new exterior keypad with pin, the remote opener and walked me through setting up mobile access on my phone. In addition to the original scope, John troubleshot some other issues with the door itself. He recommended a product that would extend the life of my door parts for a little while longer. After installation, he did a quick demo and stayed until he was sure I understood and tested how everything worked. His quick tutorial also helped me quickly pair my integrated car garage opener soon after they left. I was very impressed with John's knowledge and believe I received a great value for the service rendered. I know I'll be using them again.

Jesse Bowen was delayed on another project and still came to work on my garage door today. I am so thankful for this because I am out on a work trip and wanted this done before I had to leave. Jesse not only took care of replacing the items I wanted replaced, he also made some adjustments going back to the original garage door opener installation. I will be definitely looking to Jesse again any time I have garage door issues.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

    Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How much does it cost to get a garage door fixed?

The national average for garage door repair cost is between $80 and $110. Some of the factors that affect your garage door repair cost are the type of springs (most often torsion or extension), the size and weight of the door, and the door material. Many garage door pros will charge a service fee to visit your house and determine the problem. Often, the service fee includes a set amount of labor. One example of this is an $80 service fee that includes the first hour of work plus testing and inspecting your garage door and garage door opener, while another pro may charge $150 for the same standard service call.

Broken or jammed springs are a common problem. In one example, the starting price for spring repair was $99, while another pro’s cost started at $185. The $185 starting price included $40 for transportation costs, $60 for parts, and $85 per hour of labor. Professionals may charge extra for late-night garage door repair emergencies.

How much is it to replace a garage door panel?

Replacing a garage door panel can add significantly to the cost of a garage door repair. Panels run horizontally on sectional roll-up garage doors. They may be made of wood, vinyl, aluminum, fiberglass or steel. Garage door panels can become damaged from hail and other extreme weather, dents and dings, car accidents, and age. When deciding if you want to replace a garage door panel, it’s helpful to compare the potential repair cost to the cost of a new garage door. Panel replacement requires a pro with the proper tools as well as the new parts. With parts and labor you could be paying more than $500 for one new panel. In comparison, a new garage door may cost $800-$1,200 (on average) with installation. If there is a possibility your garage door was structurally compromised when the panel was damaged, have the pro assess whether it’s better to completely remove and replace the door, rails and framework to ensure your home’s safety. It may also be better to completely replace your door if it is severely rusted or dented; if the paint is peeling and fading; if the door model is outdated or you can’t find replacement panels; or if the panels or rails are structurally compromised.

How much should it cost to replace a garage door cable?

If your garage door is not opening or has become jammed, you may need to replace the garage door cables. Unless you have the proper tools and know-how, this is a job best left to a professional due to the weight of the garage door and the extreme tension of the springs. The cost of repair will vary depending on your location, the length of the cables you need, and the time it takes the pro to do the replacement.

From a big-box store, basic garage door cables can run between $8 and $20, depending on the product. Your pro may charge you a different cost if they provide the cables. Your cables may not need to be replaced if they have simply come off the track, but broken cables will need to be completely removed and replaced. In either instance, the pros will need to secure or take down the door; unwind the springs; reset or replace the rollers, cables, and drums; and then wind the springs once more. For example, a pro could reset cables that have come off the track for $129.99. The average national cost for a garage door repair specialist is $80 - $110 per hour and the typical cost to replace a broken garage door cable is anywhere from $130 to $200.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
