Jontelle was extremely helpful and nice! He tackled our small handyman jobs in less than an hour! He even was honest about one of our other projects with replacing our back door frame and recommended we use someone that specializes in door frames rather than doing it himself, as well as gave us a great recommendation for someone who could help! Will definitely be using him again!

Larry did a great job on some door installation projects in our home. We had bifold doors removed and slab doors installed on our laundry room, and a screen door installed on a nursery as the main two projects. Larry was on time, thorough, and very helpful taking his time to explain things and even pick up two doors that wouldn’t fit in our vehicles. We appreciated him very much and will likely use again for home projects as we are not handy people ourselves :)

Ben was fabulous to work with it on painting my kitchen cabinets. I have alot of cabinets doors and drawers and he still finished within a week and that's with terrible Atlanta weather too. I went from dark brown cabinets to this light blue gray color and it just freshened up the whole kitchen. He even drilled new holes for me so I could change the handles. And to top it off..Ben is such a super nice guy too.

Extremely professional and courteous. Luis got here exactly when he said he would. Did the work and went about his day. I've had this lock changed twice in the last 6 months. The first company put an office lock on a residential door and charged me nearly $350 and the lock still didn't work properly. Luis did this one within 45 minutes and it's perfect. I would hire him again and again. Tomeko oates

I hired Mr. Baynes to paint the interior of my house. It was a large job (including walls, ceilings, trim and doors). He did a wonderful job. He was on time each day, trustworthy (I was comfortable going to work while he painted). He cleaned everything up before leaving each day and kept in touch to let me know his progress. I would highly recommend Mr. Baynes and will certainly use him again for some other projects around my house.

Kevin Penney has done several jobs for me in the past few months. It started with drying out a basement after a plumbing leak, and I liked him so much that I hired him to repair my roof, re-do thresholds and seals on several doors, install a chandelier, install a screen door, and we have one more shelving/painting project in my office that I'd like to get done before the end of the year. I'm so glad to have this relationship with Kevin now. He's a great communicator, on time, always respectful of me, my home, my pets and my time, and he cares about the nitty-gritty details! I have referred friends to him and will continue to do so with great confidence!

We wanted to turn our garage into a play room. After super-expensive quotes from others, Keith gave us a very reasonable price. He and his main man, Brandon, & his bro came and did a very good job! While he was here he finished some other odd jobs that were needed, made some good suggestions on some other jobs, and made sure we were satisfied on the overall job. He and his team put up a wall with windows where the garage door was, including the exterior siding, put a door and window in another wall, walled up an entrance, put another door in an interior wall, did all the electrical, including lights and ceiling fans, moved a vent over, did the moulding/trim, had some guys do the sheetrock, and probably some other things I'm forgetting. I didnt have a before pic, but hopefully Keith will read this and put a before and after shot on his profile.

Alex did a great job installing 3 deadbolt locks for me and when I neglected to take new keys with me later in the day, he sent someone else out to unlock my door for me. He was even considerate enough to keep checking back until they arrived and got me back in the house. Thanks Alex!!

I set up and scheduled an appointment for installing a security door, but ended up unable to attend myself! Luckily my wife was able to be free that day and the gentleman that came by was lovely according to her. Eric, the contractor, showed her the available and compatible options at the Home Depot 2 turns away and also did some other door-work. We had doors that were too snug, a storm door that didn't have its catch-coil, and another door that didn't have a key when we bought the house. He made a quote only knowing of the security door and hardly budged from it. Such generosity truly is a blessing, and I'll definitely be passing his number on to friends and our real-estate agent. Good work done pleasantly!

If I could give 10 stars I would. Mika came out earlier than expected, which was great. I appreciated him fitting me into schedule at such short notice. As soon as he got to my house he got straight to work and knew exactly what he was doing. Upon completion I checked everything and each door was locking properly with all hardware installed to perfection. I would highly recommend his services. Pricing was straight forward. He didn't try to get over on me with sudden price hikes upon arrival like some other companies. 10 star!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.
