Gabrini did an excellent job executing my backsplash project in the kitchen and bathrooms! He was very kind and professional. I was undecided as to the tile choice but Gabrini assisted in my selection of the perfect one! His prices are unbeatable! I had shopped around quite a bit before selecting a contractor. He completed the job swiftly and was very trustworthy. I left Gabrini in my home and came back to a job well done! I plan to use Gabrini again for a flooring project and would absolutely refer him to anyone in search of a knowledgeable tile contractor. Thanks again Gabrini for beautifying my home!

This is one of the best contractor that I have hired! Bobby and his crew did an awesome install of porcelain tile flooring in one of my bedrooms! They picked up the flooring and supplies which I had purchased in advance at Home Depot. They arrived to the house on time and got right to work. They were vere courteous and respectful taking the time to cover my wood floors with the carpet pieces they had removed from the bedroom so that they wouldn’t create a mess when walking thru my house. I was totally impressed with the work, workmanship, and professionalism of the crew. I will definitely refer to my friends. I plan to call this company for my next projects.

Mr. Boone was prompt in responding to my inquiry via phone and the Thumbtack app. He answered questions concisely. After speaking to several other companies, Mr. Boone stood out and was the most professional. We scheduled a time and he and his wife were prompt and called ahead of time. The pair cut down several large trees and 3 large knockout bushes that had been uprooted by a storm and hauled it all away. The price was more than reasonable. The work was impeccable. Will be hiring them again. I recommend them.

Jammie came in after another installer said he could not do the job (tried talking us into a more expense material). Jammie took a look and said "no problem". He fit us in to his schedule and finished the job with no issues. Jammie took the time to pay attention to the details and charged us less than the original installer. The floors look great and we are already planning on using Jammie again for additional projects.

My job was completed in a timely manner. The job consisted of replacing closet rods and shelving that fell from the walls because they had not been installed properly. The drywall was repaired and painted and all rods and shelving was replaced the right way this time. I can’t wait to organize my closet. Ben did a GREAT job. Great personality. I would definitely recommend this company.

Outstanding! Fantastic pricing, and very knowledgeable. We got several flooring quotes from different companies and Peach State was one of the only ones to realize that we would need new sub flooring in order to install hardwood floors. They were efficient, friendly, and we can't wait to have them back to finish the rest of the house!

Juan was very professional, thorough and caring to the desires of both myself and wife. His crew worked dillegently to complete the large job in a timely manner. He and his crew installed tile, hardwood flooring, and molding in the majority of our home. We are very satisfied with his work and would recommend to anyone looking to have work done. As well, his costs were very reasonable in comparison to other quotes we received!!!!!

I regret not hiring CS Flooring. The other company that I hired off Thumbtack appeared more professional but their work was crap despite their good reviews. I will use CS next time.

Wilson Flooring replaced our foyer staircase carpet. My project objectives were price, quality and color which had to closely match the color of the upstairs landing and foyer area living room carpets. My objectives were exceeded! They were very professional, removed old carpet, installed new carpet and cleaned everything up. I am a very happy customer and will definitely use them again for all my flooring needs! Rafael and his team came the same day to look at the proposed project, gave a very reasonable quote and were able to start the project in the short time frame that we needed to get it completed. They did an excellent job with the painting and dry wall repair work and made our house interior look brand new again. His team worked efficiently and was very easy to communicate with. Definitely recommend Rafael and his team for any projects that you may have and you won't be disappointed!

I decided to redecorate my home a few months ago and hired Brian for the job. He came out right away to do a walkthrough and even gave me suggestions to lower my costs! He painted and retiled both bathrooms, painted and put crown molding and hardwood floors in my downstairs sitting area, redid the cabinets in my kitchen and it all looks amazing!! I was so impressed with the work he did an his timely and professional manner that I've referred him to my boss and several friends!

Anthony is a great communicator and willing to go out of the way to ensure clients are satisfied. Antony called and texted each day to provide updates on what was going on with the flooring project and completed the job in the time he said he would. There were a couple of items that I wasn't completely happy with and each time Antony promptly went back and made the adjustments. This was AFTER I'd already made my final payment which is when some so-called professionals decide to stop responding to phone calls and text messages. I'm happy with the work and would use the company again for a similar project.

I hired Wilmer Flores to do home improvement work around my home over the summer. This work included: painting, staining, flooring, baseboards; installing cabinets, sliding glass door, and windows. After seeing his work, I was very impressed and have referred him to family and friends. Wilmer is punctual, unfailingly friendly, respectful, and extremely professional; his attention to detail is impeccable. I recommend Wilmer Flores highly for all of your home improvement needs. You will not be disappointed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
