Did a great Job repairing my busted sprinkler system pipes. There was a lot of hard digging with large tree roots that busted the pipes due to growth. With all the digging, my landscaping was put back as he found it minus the leaky pipes!

NB Landscape was responsive and professional. The price was affordable. However, they did leave a lawn bag where they cut the grass, but I will remind them that the grass and trash related to the cut must be hauled away because the community does not have lawn trash removal. And, they cut/pruned my trees and bushes, but they missed one tree. I will continue to use the company and make send an email about the trash haul and the tree missed. They accept payments via online, and they sent an estimate in a timely manner. We agreed to a regular two-week cut, and I requested them to fill-in a hole that has developed on the property. So far, I am pleased.

Working with Leafy Lawns was a pleasure! Aaron is very friendly, explains everything well (to a landscape iliterate), his price was very competitive and he checked up on us/the lawn for several days afterwards. Our front lawn has been an eyesore for years so I can't even believe the lawn I see now is ours. We had about 2000sq ft of weeds, dirt, old Bermuda and mulch that Aaron removed, then tilled, and leveled. He installed about 3.5 pallets Zoysia Zenith from SuperSod nearby. By the second day, it was already starting to turn green! Our lot has a considerable hill, so with excess sod, Aaron laid grass on the 6x6 timber steps we have, so now they too are attractive and not 100% mud. In addition to this, he planted and mulched azaleas at my mailbox to tie it all together and dropped off a new sprinkler! Aaron is a genuinely nice man. He made it easy with our work schedules to schedule an estimate and the work ASAP, but most importantly he was upfront about details and when they encountered an unexpected increase in materials, he did not add to his quote. The attention and concern he gives to each job, no matter the size, is why he is so successful. Following our sod installation, part of Aaron's crew came back for a total yard clean up...killing weeds, hauling leaves and laying pine straw. They work hard and it shows. This is the first time in 5 years my husband and I have stood in the driveway and been proud of our front yard! Thank you Leafy Lawns!

I've used clean cut lawn service twice this month. My yard has many sweet-gum trees and requires sweet-gum removal as well as weed eating. The final result both times was a job well done. I will continue to use CCLS for maintaing my lawn.

Anthony and his team were awesome!! We hired them to clear the back part of our yard that was full of over large 100 rocks and debris/trash, plus overgrown shrubs and a dying tree. It was a lot of stuff to clear and his team was able to do it in 2 days. They even raked and replanted some of our other trees. His prices were fair and adjustable to what our budget was. Would recommend his services.

I had a home purchased as a REO.... Thinking I was making a savy investment; the home came with an unforeseen amount of work and maintenance to just get it to safety. I neglected the outside of my home... Doing the bear minimum and now it's just so far from manageable.... I needed to call in the pros. My home had overgrown kudzu, Ivy, over 20 over grown shrubs, trees and 5 large beds that looks like The jungle book. Needless to say... It was disgraceful and on the brink of causing me an anxiety attack. I call a few professionals for quotes but everyone was concerned about rover selling me vs giving me a practical solution. Meeting Marcos was a fresh of breath air. Humble, honest, genuine and intelligent.... He listened to me ramble about all of my issues and made sense of it all. He gave me tiers of service to help me budget short term and long term visions of my home. As a woman, having dealt with other contractors; I've become increasing aware of how we are regards. Well NOT Marcos, he is incredibly sensible, fair, And hardworking. His cost will generally be 1/2 the price of other contractor bc he won't draw out the project. He took down 2 trees, 8 shrubs, cleaned out 3 LARGE beds 20x3 and trimmed back trees, edgings, pruning and mowing on my 1 acres lot in 1 day. He's in my phone as a trusted vendor who I will continue to do business with in other areas of my business. Marcos is a top notch professional with an extremely efficient way of running his business Investors or homes owners that are looking for LARGE clearing of lawns for site prep, lawn makeover before selling or just maintenance... He is your guy!!! Thanks Marcos!

After the removal of an above ground pool and deck, the scope of the project was to re-grade the back yard, plant sod, a tree, and bushes. Josh provided a written estimate, which was accepted, and a date was set for work to start. Just a few days before the work was scheduled to begin, I realized that the configuration of our existing irrigation system needed to be changed to include this new area. I tried to get a hold of the company who initially installed our irrigation system – they apparently are so busy, they never returned my phone call. Josh came back out, and said he could tie this new yard area into our existing system. This delayed the start of the project a few days, but on the day of the installation, Josh and his crew were here on time, as promised. I was out of town for the day, and upon my return, I could see that everything had been done well. Josh is easy to work with, and easier to get a hold of than most contractors. I would recommend Cuts Lawn Service.

These guys are amazing. I had a very large tree that was a danger, close to homes and very close to the road. They took it down with no issue. Cleaned the yard up before they left, put my fence back together (had to take it down so they could use the bobcat) Amazing does not describe them enough. I will use their service again if I need any tree work.

Our experience with Arbor Tech was very positive. Jennifer and Barry are very knowledgeable about the services they offer and deliver those services professionally. Philip and I thoroughly enjoyed working with them. They are personable, accommodating and truly interested in providing tree services personalized for your situation. Their services are fairly priced and we never felt like we were being pressured to do unnecessary work. Quite the opposite! It was a great pleasure to work with them. We would readily recommend their company to anyone needing this kind of service.

Lucio went above and beyond with the tree cutting project! He was very professional, turned up on time, courteous and above all was very attentive to details. He took additional time in cleaning up the area very thoroughly. It felt like Lucio didn't do this as just another job, but he spent concentrated time and effort to ensure that he did an excellent job and he definitely over delivered! And the price that he charged was very reasonable. It was a true pleasure to have Lucio take up our project and it was a positive experience. I would recommend Lucio for any landscaping/tree trimming projects without any hesitation.

Where to start! I feel like we've gained an outdoor landscaping partner for the long haul. We had a huge tree fall in our yard from our neighbors house this spring. (we live close to Virginia Highlands) It destroyed the front yard. We were looking to re-do the front flower beds anyway and then realized after this we needed an entirely new lawn. We got multiple quotes for a full sod restoration. (changed from fescue to Zoysia) Working with Nelson and his entire team at Legacy Outdoor Living was an absolute pleasure! It's rare to find a company that communicates well from start to finish in the landscaping business. Outdoor stuff does not always go as planned but Nelson did a good job being in constant contact as we dealt with the natural ebbs and flows of the calendar due to weather, etc. Nelson spent a lot of time with us on the front end of the project discussing vision, time frame, expectations, etc. He was quick on his quote turnaround and was sensitive to all of our requests, including budget. (Legacy is very reasonable and we feel were the best value out of all the quotes we got) - plus you get what you pay for and these guys are well worth it! We had them take out all the existing destroyed fescue, replace with Zoysia and also take out all of our old and dying trees, shrubs and plants in our plant beds lining the house. The new yard and plant beds look exceptional! One thing Nelson will really try to work hard on, is helping you build out a yard that looks great, but is also manageable for a person without a "green" thumb- My wife and I are now excited about taking care of our new lawn as opposed to being intimidated by all the previous work needed to tend to an "over planted" front yard. (prior owner's doing) We cannot wait to use Legacy later this year on the back yard project! Nacho is awesome as well! Great to work with! Sincerely, HK A happy "in-town" Atlanta customer!

I had a pretty sizable yard project that required the removal of large trees, as well as the cutting of a backyard that had been overgrown with many weeds. Sears and Son's promptly contacted me and sent over a lawn technician to provide a reasonable quote. They were able to come out the next day and complete the project. My yard looks great! The technician was hardworking, polite and professional. I look forward to continuing to work with them!

We had a really good experience working with owner Roger Bregenzer. He was patient and informative with us as we are non-gardeners. He has been in the plant business a long time and he has a very hard working crew. On his initial consult visit to give us an estimate for landscaping our wild and weedy steep hillside, he recognized that a large number of our tall pine trees had a beetle infestation and were dead or dying. He provided us with a great referral for a tree company and provided good service in temporarily removing some azaleas to provide an exit path to remove the trees. After having over 25+ large pine trees removed, we had Roger's crew return to replant the azaleas and drastically improve our step hillside with all new plantings and the addition of large rocks. He was able to repurpose or retain several plants that were already on the property and tuck everything in with pine straw for the winter. We can't wait until spring arrives to see everything flourishing!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
