This was my first time using Thumbtack. Scott responded to my project request to fix my gate of my outside fence in 5 minutes and fixed my fence that day. Scott was on-time, friendly, professional, explained the issue, and the quality of work met my expectations. I would definitely hire Scott again.

Gladiator Fence Co. has just completed removing and replacing my fence and I couldn't be more pleased with the work they have done. It was after receiving two extremely high estimates that I decided to call Gladiator fence company for one more estimate. Needless to say it was the right call. This company will give you an honest estimate based on industry standards and in return you will receive a professional job, done in a timely manner by an experienced and considerate crew. Thank you John and Amanda for making this so easy and thanks to the crew for a beautiful fence. Well done Gladiator. Robert Horde'. 4/28/16

We are so happy in our new home thanks to Kevin Penney! We hired Kevin to repair our damaged siding. He did such a great job we hired him to pressure wash our house, driveway and patio. Again we were pleased with his work,we had him paint our door and replace our shutters."You should see the before and after pictures"! Once again we were so pleased we hired him to build us a wooden privacy fence and it looks fabulous!!! Kevin does quality work for a great price and he takes pride in his work and it shows! Kevin is a great guy and we wouldn't hesitate to hire him again or give him a referral. Thank you so much Kevin, Mike & Laurie R.

Great work on new fence! Impressed with the quality of the craftsmanship. Extremely responsive, even with communications outside of normal work hours. Clear design intent and quote. Did not creep scope or increase price at the end of the project. Started and completed work at the times committed to. Fair and competitive pricing. Took good care of my property while on the job. Friendly and courteous with my family throughout the project. I would definitely recommend M&M Complete to friends and neighbors. I hope to use M&M on a future bathroom shower project, which they have already quoted for me.

After feeling a little lost and stressed, needing our newly cleared back yard fenced in and needing it all done fast as we get ready for a summer wedding party, we found Kris and he saved the day! He was thoughtful with ideas but balanced with listening to our wants, got the job done FAST, and the fence looks amazing! We will probably have him back for more jobs around the house in the future. We would recommend him to anyone! We loved working with him and not going through a big corporate feeling company that felt inauthentic.

Mike did a fantastic job in first figuring out what the heck I wanted 🤣😄😂. Second, providing a photoshop of my thoughts, and lastly, with the finished product. I wanted my fence to look just as good on the inside (backyard) as well as it does on the street side, and Mike did a wonderful job for a reasonable price. Thanks Mike!

While building a gate for a fence he used a dull skill saw blade leaving ragged edges on the fence. He should have replaced his blade. He also left a 4x4 post much higher than the rest of the fence 4x4s as he did not have his chainsaw with him to cut it. He said he would return to fix both items, but never did. I paid him (too much) in good faith even though the job was not completed as expected.

I bought a new home that needed a full landscape makeover. From turf installation, fence repair/construction, retaining walls, resloping, irrigation system installation, etc... Dakota and his team did it all. We had several hiccups along the way between disgruntled neighbors and payment options being blocked, but Dakota took is in stride and delivered a quality product. We still have a lot of work to do, and I hope to continue hiring Dakota's team for ongoing maintenance. I highly recommend these guys!

Jason did a great job on my fence/gate installation and pressure washing. He was prompt when he came to give me a quote and kept me informed on everything as he worked on the projects. He was willing to go the extra mile to make sure I was satisfied with the job. I would definitely hire him for future jobs!

Overall I am very pleased with the way my gate turned out. The only hiccup was when Keith came out he quoted me a price which I assumed was for labor and materials. Turns out it was for only labor. Yes it was stated on my quote, but everything was done on his mobile phone to process our transaction. I did not open the quote to review. We talked and it seemed great so I hired him. It has been a very rare event to have a contractor come to my house and only quote me labor and if they did, they specifically mentioned it to me while talking. I should have asked, but I felt like Keith should have stated it was for labor only. In the end Keith ate half the cost ($150 roughly) of the materials to make it right which was very much appreciated.

Bryan showed up early, on time, as promised. He repaired a section in the chain link fence that we were having a hard time with (gap at bottom due to steep grade), as well as fix a gate that was not latching correctly. He was mindful of my dog in the fenced-in area. He was professional, polite, fair on price, and honest.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
      • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
      • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
      • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

      • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
      • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
      • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
      • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
      • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
      • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
      • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
      • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
