He is a wonderful tutor for math. Has helped my 10th grader with her math concepts and is very good with students. Treats them with respect, is personable and is very good with thoroughly explaining concepts and going over it until he feels she has the concept. I highly recommend Mr. Goodman.

I selected Darryl Marquettte to assist my daughter Makenzie with her SAT preparation after interviewing several other individuals and companies. I made the right choice! Darryl was personable and professional. He was thorough and efficient, all while making sure he went at a comfortable pace for my daughter. We are looking forward to seeing an increase in her math score! I have already recommended Darryl and A Success Academy to several of my friends and coworkers and plan on hiring him to tutor my 10th grade son Myles as well.

I hired Nick as my son's tutor. So far, I am impressed with his professionalism and punctuality. Although we just began our tutor program, I am super hopeful that Nick can make a big difference. I will update this recommendation again in the near future as we move forward.

I have had nothing but fantastic experiences with the people at Strive. Having fallen behind quickly in my collegel Latin class, my tutor helped me identify my weaknesses and work to improve. I caught up by the end of the semester, and went on to do 3 more semesters after that!

Great tutor Manny is a great tutor for the GMAT. I have a session once a week with him. He provides practice problems to work on during the week. If I have any questions he reviews them with me our following session. He is able to determine your learning style and problem areas. He also provides me with test taking tips to help save time when I take the GMAT. I highly recommend him. Asia

I’ve taken my SATs a couple of times and although I am not a bad student, I just felt that I could have done better, I knew it inside, but just could not find where it was. I got the Getting Into The Ivys tutoring program and worked with a Chelsea tutor. What I really like about my tutor is that she’s a qualified teacher and is professional and knows how to actually teach concepts properly. I really did not want to take any chances. Going to university is very important to me and my family. Susan my tutor developed a special study plan just for me, which helped me focus on my key weaknesses, without feeling de-motivated, in-fact I was so enthused by her, I actually looked forward to all my sessions. She is a brilliant tutor and I am so very grateful. I was able to increase my composite core by 100. I am very pleased.

All three of our children have worked with either Allison or tutors she employs. All of the tutors have been very helpful in working with our children. The results have been great as well as my kids always come out of their sessions more confident in their ability to learn the material and more comfortable with the material reviewed. Allison does a great job of juggling schedules and keeping us informed of scheduling options. I strongly recommend utilizing East Cobb Tutoring Center for any tutoring needs your children may have.

Wes is very clear when explaining, gives lots of positive reinforcement, is knowledgeable. My daughter grasped what was troubling her pretty quickly in one hour tutoring. He is also accesible, when she had more questions he helped over the phone. Through technology you can work remotely and he is very tech savvy. He really cares about her understanding concepts and how to apply them and gives real life examples so it is easier to understand. We are just starting but my daughter feels more confident and will continue with his tutoring. She even was helping another friend with homework and that friend is also gonna be receiving tutoring from Wes.

Gabe is awesome! He's extremely knowledgeable, super patience, and very passionate about the student's success. My daughter's first session was more than what she and I expected. He covered a lot of material. My daughter said "mommy, I'm going to ace that SAT." If you're looking for a tutor, Gabe should be your first choice. Plus, he sends email summaries, follow up, and homework.

Everyone knows how insanely competitive getting accepted to an Ivy is these days. You really need a company like Arbor Tutors to help navigate the process. They first helped Nicholas go up from 1190 to 1560 on his SAT. They also spent a lot of time making sure all of Nicholas’s college application essays were as well written as possible. I recommend Arbor Tutors to any family with Ivy League aspirations.

Josh has helped me learn certain subjects, like chemistry, to a degree that I did not think was possible. He explained things in a way that helped me fully grasp the concepts. The way he explains the subjects, his competitive pricing, and his willingness to help make him a truly great tutor. He has great clarification skills, and if you don’t get the way he’s explaining something, he will switch his delivery technique to a way that works for you.

Aja, is a sweet soul, my son is always excited to see her. His reading, and handwriting skills have improved from a F to B by the end of the school year. We started off in person, now my son log in online to meet up with her. I hear him singing his vocabulary, creating poetry, and using apps to learn. She uses all the things he finds entertaining to make sure he gets what he needs. High quality, Highly recommended!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

  • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
  • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for reading and writing home tutor: $40-$60 per hour.
  • National average cost for an SAT home tutor: $70 per hour.
  • National average cost for an ACT home tutor: $70-$100 per hour.
