Chef Jo Soeung was born and raised in Baguio City, Philippines where she became well versed in the culinary styles of East Asian and Spanish influence cooking. At a young age she‘ve had an understanding of the impact preparing meals with love. She grew up learning how to cook, firsthand, from the best cook she know, her grandmother. A move to Seattle, Washington (which is her Dad’s last military post) in March 2006 exposed her to a world of new, fresh, international flavors common to the West Coast and the belief that cooking was truly her life’s calling. Chef Jo quickly made her mark in the hospitality culinary world through her work in some of the city’s most renowned restaurants and hotels. In January 2019, she had a work opportunity to move to Maui, Hawaii and work for a few months where she discovered the freshness of local ingredients and the availability of wonderful ocean harvests. All such an integral part of daily life. November 2019 she decided it was time to follow her dreams and turn her passion and purpose into a business. She left her corporate job and moved to Honolulu, Hawaii aka “Da Big Pineapple“. From there, Chef Jo’s Personal Chef Service was born. For almost two decades, Chef Jo has been preparing food with love and curating experiences that create memories that last a lifetime. That’s what food has done for her. She is determined to keep her family’s legacy alive by pairing her Filipino culture, upbringing and family recipes with her culinary training to create dishes that stem from her roots and expand beyond your imagination!

Over the past years as a yoga instructor, I have slowly begun to see how my body is truly effected by what I eat and drink. I decided to contact Rosey because I have been suffering from migraines since I was in middle school and I felt like my whole immune system was shot. Through the six-week program I can successfully say I have not had a migraine in six weeks! This of course is still the biggest success for my health. I have never felt so alive! With the help of Rosey's coaching, I now understand the importance of hydration and eating to nourish my body, mind, and spirit. I have to admit, the hardest part of my six-week program was how skeptical I was about seeking out a health coach. I had always thought it was just about losing weight. What I have learned is a health coach, like Rosey, does not just inspire you to live a flourishing life, but empowers you to love yourself and love the healthy choices you can make. Through the six-week program I lost a total of 10 pounds. This was not a goal of mine...but I feel more energized and more awake. My body is less achy and when I wake up in the morning I am no longer groggy. My favorite part about this program is the way in which Rosey made me feel at ease. She offers so many different educational ways of learning about healthy choices, that I never felt like I was being cut short or fast tracked along the way. There is no doubt in my mind that Rosey is an amazing health coach, and she be sought out by anyone who wants to make a health change big or small.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
