ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE MEAL! If you read no more, note that I would hire Ed a million times more to cook for me. My experience: I scheduled a trip to Oahu, my first time to Hawaii, ever! I rented a house in Waialua so that I could be away from the crowds. I wanted to experience the local cuisine but did not want to do the tourist route lua with all the people. I stumbled across Ed's website and was immediately captured by his philanthropic nature...he does a lot for his community and the kids. I contacted Ed and told him I wanted someone to come to the house and cook for my family (just 3 of us) and he was very accommodating. The menu included Traditional Pork Laulau, Ahi Poki, Pulehu Chicken, Kauai Shrimp Scampi, En Papillote (Fresh Fish, baked), Traditional Haupia Squares. Ed cooked another 4-5 dishes that were off the menu and we were absolutely thrilled with the meal and the experience. I requested an interactive meal and Ed was very accommodating to allow us to participate in the preparation of the Laulau (pork rolled in Luau leaves). After that, Ed continued to prepare and cook and conversed with us the whole time as we picked his brain about the his culinary background, the local culture and tips on cooking. Ed was laid back and a very likable guy. I imagine he would have been just as happy preparing the meal while we entertained ourselves elsewhere so I was happy he allowed us to interact with him while he was cooking. He was completely self-sufficient with all his cooking utensils, pans, bakeware and even brought the plates, silverware, serving dishes, cloth napkins and table cloth. He cleaned up everything too. It was a perfect meal.
Chef Kimo (Loren Holly) exceeded all of my expectations! Chef's timing was perfect; guests raved about the food and the combination of flavors and texture. The food was served hot and some of my guests were pleased to be able to watch Chef Kimo in action! The dinner for 50 was at my home in Kaneohe. Service was for 6:30 pm. Chef Kimo worked with me on the menu and at exactly 6:30, dinner was served. Food service was buffet style and Chef Kimo made sure that the food kept coming! Chef Kimo cooked and cleaned and at the end of the evening, the kitchen was immaculate. After the party ended and as guests prepared to leave, Chef Kimo and the crew broke down the tables and chairs and before leaving for the evening, made sure that everything was cleaned and taken away. Everyone raved about the food and the service! As the host, I was most grateful for the privilege of working with Chef Kimo. Using Kimo's Akamai Catering for this special event was the best decision I made!

We would recommend Hanai Events for any event you could image. We planned this surprise party for our sister from Texas 3wks before we where to be in O'ahu. They found th venue,(Hyatt Centric Hotel) got the food we loved catered,suprised us with a BREAK DANCING CREW, had a screen for the slide show my hubby made, had the most AWESOME DJ(played 80's music and kept everyone on their feet) and the 3 different flavored CHEESECAKES... out of this world Fab!!!! I could continue on about our night and all the memories that Hanai Events created for the Birthday Girl, her childhood friends, colleges, kids,family and staff enjoyed themselves. Jason was incredible and I was blessed to have him for our wedding party of twelve. My mother had taken over the catering aspect of our Oahu wedding because she saw how stressed out I was, and if you do talk to Jason, he can confirm how high strung I was when we met. I perfunctorily nodded and looked at the menu, my mom handed over the money, and I barely talked to him because I was upset at our ceremony site, which looked nothing like it did in the pictures (our home base is in NYC so we didn't get to see the property until 3 days before the wedding) and I was too busy with sprucing it up to get to know Jason personally. The purpose of this preface is to say that this is obviously NOT a review of Jason as a person because upon talking to him, you'll be taken by his sense of humor, character, and charm. If the apocalypse comes you'll want him on your team, not just to cook of course but because he's so funny and has a magnanimous soul (my dad got locked out of his room and Jason stopped what he was doing in the kitchen and went to help!). This is a review obviously, of his professionalism and his INCREDIBLE food. It's unfortunate that I can't post pictures but let me just say this. People typically oversell how good they are and in Jason's case, my objective opinion is that he doesn't do enough. Exhibit A: I offered to post reviews for him in every forum possible because he really deserves the greatest public approbation but he still hasn't called or write (c'mon Jason you need to pub yourself more!). Anyways, I'll stop gushing and be helpful to those who are looking for a chef for their private event. Here are a few background notes to me so you can get a sense of where I come from and why I believe Jason deserves the highest praise. Here is a list of the courses we had that I'm recalling from memory, so the names are descriptive and less poetic than I'd like: 1) Steak Bruschetta, 2) Crabcakes, 3) Asparagas and Mushroom Salad, 4) Mahi Mahi, 5) Steak, and 6) Lobster. Pretty simple right? Jason's crabcakes were the best I've ever had. They were meaty (I couldn't tell where the breading was), flavorful, and unlike most crabcakes that are heavily battered and salted, NEEDED Jason's amazing sauce because it was barely salted. As I've said, we're based in NYC and there's no need to be snooty about food but what I mean is we've tried the best in the culinary world. I grew up in Taiwan and I've had Michelin starred restaurants in NYC, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. Most of the times I find food in most of these restaurants well plated but overhyped in taste. I'm not going to essentialize Jason because this is obviously just one meal I've had from him, but it was a 6 course meal and there were too many opportunities to be inconsistent. Jason's trademarks (again, from my one time impression): 1) light on salt (I didn't request this, I think this is just a hallmark of great cooking), 2) using the freshest ingredients, and 3) making everything from scratch (for reals, I saw him making crabcakes in the kitchen). I hope this review would be helpful to those of you who are looking for someone to cook for your event, if you or your guests are more Paula Deen than Morimoto and like thickly battered fried and refried items or go nuts with the salt shaker then Jason will be a disappointment.
OUTSTANDING! WOW....What an amazing experience. I am so thankful that I found Chef Pedro Rosa with the help of Thumbtack! He responded the day I asked for help. From my initial contact I found Chef Pedro to be friendly and very accommodating. That experience was only the beginning as his food preparation, showmanship, flavors were amazing! He was very attentive to every detail and he and his staff were attentive from setup to final clean up. I want to have another party just to invite him back!!!! I recommend Chef Pedro Rosa without equivocation. Eric C
While visiting Oahu this Spring, we had a small family reunion plus belated birthdays for our two young granddaughters. Chef Jesse Dowling created a wonderful dinner for the occasion and helped make it a memorable evening for all of us. The presentation was lovely and the dinner was delicious. Not only is he a talented chef, he is personable and patiently answered all of our granddaughters' questions about food preparation, cooking, etc. We were delighted with his service and we certainly recommend him to anyone considering a personal chef. This was my second time experience Jojo's kitchen. I belong to an organization that was in immediate need of a buffet service, with less than 48hrs notice given to Jojo's Kitchen, Jojo was able to set up an Easter Brunch buffet for our club with everything on the buffet to please the varied palates of our members. The buffet consisted over 12 items to chose from, the banana pancakes and kim chee fried rice were my favorite, oh, and so was the fried potatoes and the fiesta omelet, forgot to mention the regular and the sweet sauce kalua pork. an assortment of bagels and muffins and bundt cake added to the already well presented menu choices. Freshly cut pineapples were delicious. Forgot to mention the strawberry goat cheese salad, yummy!! there were many other items on the buffet but these I am mentioning the items I went back for a second time. Oh, BTW, her island macaroni salad is the best.
Allison is very thorough and thoughtful with her meal/menu planning. I am always so delighted at how delicious her dishes are, and wonderfully nutritious. I highly recommend Allison to all of my friends and family.
My fiance and I got married in Honolulu and hired David to cater our rehearsal dinner. He presented a beautiful menu of tapas, which was both charming and intimate. His menu consisted mainly of small plates that used local produce and meats, making everything so fresh and delicious. The best part was the spread of chocolate desserts that followed dinner. The entire meal was paired with amazing wines that suited each dish beautifully. I can't say enough about this evening - so special.. I highly recommend David.

I cannot begin to describe our amazing Thanksgiving dinner we had. Not only did Samantha and her husband cook an amazing meal with everything my family and I asked for, they made us feel at home; With special touches like festive place mats, all the food made from scratch and definitely filled with love. She even greeted us with leis, which made us feel very comfortable and filled with aloha. We can’t describe our experience without using the words amazing, yummy, and of course grateful. My family and I HIGHLY recommend this fabulous couple to cook for your next gathering.
