Ed and his team provided exceptional service and catered delicious food for our wedding. We were a bit nervous about planning a destination wedding without a wedding planner but Ed's strong communication and accommodating attitude made it possible. The food was better then we expected and he was able to work with my dietary restrictions (gluten and dairy free). Not only did we use Kuoha Culinary for the food service but also for party rentals. The company Ed uses for party rentals were very professional and provided delivery, set up, break down, and pick up services of all our rentals. The tents, tables, chairs, dancefloor etc were all in good condition. If I were to recommend a company for wedding catering, it would be Kuoha Culinary hands down!

My husband and I first went to Kimo's Akamai catering for just food. After the tasting we were so impressed by the food and the Aloha spirit we felt. The food was Delicious! After talking we found out that this was more than a catering company. Chef Loren informed us that they could help with decor! We were extremely excited. The wedding day was amazing! The things they did with what they had to work with ( budget wise) was nothing short of a David Tutera reality show!! My guest were blown away and so were we. If you are looking for a team that will work the late hours so you can get your beauty sleep, this company is it! The warmth and love continued throughout the reception. They made everything stress free and wonderful. I can't say enough good things about this company. Thank you all so much.

Having lived in NYC and traveling extensively all over the world, I know excellent food. This is incredible food. The balance of flavors on your pallet, tender textures of meat, crispy beautiful vegetables and flaky rice is some of the rare treats you will get from Ho'A'o Catering. Whatever your culinary preference be ethnically, you'll sure to be getting the best experience. Less or no meat? No problem. This and that free- no problem. To top it off, for the event planning side, imagine a planner that is on time, anticipates challenges and plans accordingly for them. All a win-win!

I cannot praise Chef Jason Paul and his team enough! We hired him for our wedding reception of 18, and, it being a destination wedding, we didn't have the chance to meet him until the day of the wedding. He did not disappoint! The appetizers (coconut shrimp and wontons) were fantastic and so fresh, and our guests are still raving about the filet mignon - tender, juicy and cooked perfectly! While I was very pleased with the meal, one thing I was also impressed by was the level of service. We had planned to set up the tables and everything ourselves, but we were so pleasantly surprised when we returned from our photos and Jason's team had already set up everything to perfection. They truly went above and beyond what we had expected, and we were so grateful for everything that they did to help us on the day. I would wholeheartedly recommend Jason and his team to anyone looking for personal chef or small catering. The food was as good as (or maybe better than) what you would get in an upscale restaurant, and the service went above and beyond our expectations.

Noe catered a corporate meeting for myself and staff on a 3 day notice and She was incredibly professional from the start to end. And She made sure we were getting what we wanted for the budget I already had in mind. Beautiful personality, positive vibe, very upbeat young lady. It was awesome having her as a caterer and I look forward to having Blaize's Kitchen cater our next event. The food was fantastic! We had an Italian, Mexican and Southern mix (food stations if you will), not a single complaint from anyone! Already recommended them to multiple businesses and friends. Now I'm recommending them to anyone reading this. They are a must have company for any catering needs!

I cannot say enough great things about Chef Pedro, the food was outstanding, they were so accommodating, very friendly and professional. The coordinator leading up to our event was so helpful and kind and the staff the day of was wonderful, warm and professional. Everyone was raving about the food! We were on a budget, but really good in-season food was important to us and Chef Pedro made that happen for us at a reasonable rate. The day of the event there was a glitch with the tables/chairs, and without missing a beat Chef Pedro’s stepped in to help resolve that issue without ever worrying us. While one might consider a caterer/Chef to only deal with food, they had their hand in nearly all aspects of the day and worked in perfect harmony with the venue care taker. They just have an ALL STAR staff combine with ALL STAR food. Everything was just wonderful. I would highly recommend them!

David was our personal chef for years for the majority of the 1990's in New York City. Passionate, dedicated, and beyond talented - I'd recommend him to anyone with a love of quality meals, especially French Cuisine. He even expanded my tastes, introducing me to foods I thought I hated. The only complaint I can think of is he left us and the city to go out west. Maybe we'll catch you in Hawaii sometime - ALOHA!

I was in charge of planning my work place Xmas Lunch and contacted Ruby Tuesday Hawaii Catering as I was most impressed with the healthy choices offered especially the complete Garden Salad Bar (which turned out to be a hit with all of my co-workers). Steven Syas was the go-to contact person and was very professional and helpful in my event planning. He guided me with menu options and appropriate food portions for my event, and also accommodated special dietary needs for the vegetarians and gluten free restrictions needed. On the day of the event, I was contacted by Mr. Syas in advance of his arrival to my event. He was early, the hot food kept warm in a portable warmer, and the cold food kept cold on ice. Mr. Syas set up the Garden Salad Bar with a magnificent presentation as well as the beef and turkey sliders on trays. My co-workers were so impressed and we have never had such a work event as this. The food was fantastic and my event a huge success. Thank you Ruby Tuesday Hawaii Catering and Mr. Syas for being a part of our special Xmas Lunch. Wishing you all the success in 2017 and look forward to our next event with you. I will highly recommend Ruby Tuesday Hawaii Catering to my co-workers, friends and especially my family for their catering needs.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

      • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
      • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
      • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
      • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
      • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
