My son (currently age 8) took ukulele lessons with Kevin for one year before switching over to guitar. We've now been doing weekly lessons with Kevin for 2 years. We do our lessons over video chat, because we don't live in Des Moines. I was a bit concerned that the video experience wouldn't really work, but it as been fantastic! Kevin is a phenomenal teacher. He is incredibly patient, positive and encouraging, which I think is important for young children. He expertly balances teaching the fundamentals of music (including reading music and playing technique) with having fun playing. When my son switched over to guitar, I started taking lessons too so that my son could practice playing with another person (this is a limitation of the video lesson format, as my son can't play duet with Kevin). We're having a blast! I've been impressed with how quickly my son is learning and that he continues to look forward to playing. Kevin is also really great about bringing in extra songs to supplement the book we're using. When my son expressed an interest in Beatles music, the next week Kevin had sent the music for "Yellow Submarine." The verses are still challenging (but my son is progressing - frankly he can play it better than I can), but you should hear us wail on the chorus! I highly recommend Kevin as a teacher for anyone, but I've been particularly impressed with his ability to teach my young (and sometimes squirrelly) son.

I've only had my first lesson with Kevin, but I already know he's cool and knows how to play a guitar. If he teaches as good as he plays even I might someday be able to "rock & roll".

I'm learning more about the guitar and music than I have ever with a guitar teacher. He is very easy to work with!

I met with Sarah at her home, and she did a wonderful job of first listening to my goals and developing a lesson plan that would help me reach them. She was very friendly and knowledgeable, and I'm so excited to continue on my guitar journey with her!

I would, without a doubt, recommend Craig Sinclair if you are searching for a guitar instructor in the Des Moines metro area. As a PhD in the field of education, I can honestly say Craig does all the things that outstanding teachers do. He works to understand exactly where his students are at and develops a plan to take them to the next level. Craig’s teaching methodology is student-centered, meaning he is serious about helping the student accomplish their goals. He uses technology in ways that have helped my practice sessions. He uses hands-on teaching tools to show how the technique should feel. I especially appreciate the videos he creates, I watch them later in the week during my practice to remember all I learned from the lesson. Craig knows music theory and leverages theory in useful ways to enhance his guitar instruction. He has a variety of chord sheets and tabs that he frequently gives me to reinforce what we learned in our lesson. Craig knows a variety of guitar genres: rockabilly, metal, acoustic, blues, grunge, country and more—he’s played them all. I’ve seen Craig perform a number of times around town…he may be the best guitarist in the metro! He is a true professional (doesn’t drink, smoke, do drugs). Craig is a legitimate master of the guitar…and he know how to teach it to aspiring guitarists. I have seen great growth in my guitar playing ability thanks to Craig. I will continue to take lessons from Craig—he continues to guide me to become a better player.

I didn't know the first thing about playing a guitar before I walked into Craig's studio. After 1 lesson, I am confident that Mr. Sinclair is the best teacher I could've found. I was extremely impressed by his knowledge, professionalism and teaching technique. Craig ensures his students first master the very basics of guitar playing before advancing to more complex fundamentals. He has precise attention-to-detail and prides himself in teaching students the right way. Craig is easy to talk to and takes great interest in providing his students the best lesson(s) they can find anywhere. I highly recommend Craig to anyone looking for guitar lessons and I'm looking very forward to my personal future lessons with Craig.

Guitar lessons with Craig are so great. Now only do you leave with so much more knowledge you go in excited and ready to go. He makes playing fun while making it very very productive. Earlier this year I started to build a 76' Gibson Explorer re-issue and the day I told craig about it he was eager to help. Now its almost done and it looks tremendous. All in all, Craig is a great instructor as he is a great person! Go ahead and try a lesson!

I have known Brian Piert for around three years now, and there have been several qualities that stand out for me. First, his remarkable knowledge and talent with a guitar is first class. Second, Brian has a strong passion for passing on his knowledge and the rich history of classical guitar. Lastly, Brian has and always will be a genuine and loyal person. You know that every time you are getting Brian's best.

"These Lesson Are Worth Every Penny" Mr Miller, These lessons are exactly what I've been looking for! They are so easy to understand, you helped me so much in understanding the chords in relationship to the lyrics. Your instructions are very friendly. You also helped me so much by slowing down the songs and even explaining the strumming patterns so even a beginner like me could understand. These lessons are worth every penny! Thumbs up! Nathan is very knowledgeable when it comes to the guitar and music in general. He was easily able to explain the song that he was teaching me in simple terms, even though I had no idea what I was doing. He knows how to teach a new player well.

About

Starting with zero experience, I taught myself guitar, that's why I am now comfortable playing, leading and singing more than once a week, once playing in front of over 800 people. I play with Vineyard Church Des Moines, Drake InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and International House of Prayer Iowa. I am also beginning to write and record my own music. Over the years, I have learned many tricks, lessons and habits to make learning guitar quick and fun. I feel very comfortable teaching beginners and moderate level guitar learners how to take their skills to the next level. This could include everything from basic chords for beginner, how to play live with others, and the basics of soloing. If you are looking for lessons for your child, I have three years of experience working with children at Boy's and Girls Club. If you are looking for lessons for yourself, I have also spent the last four years working with and mentoring college students. I am looking for students of any age and beginner to moderate skill level who are motivated and dedicated to learn guitar. Don't be discouraged if you've tried before, with a little of my help to point you in the right direction, you too can play!
